WHAT`S NEW?
„PATHS ARE MADE BY WALKING” (FRANZ KAFKA)
Each season, we create exceptional products for people who take on new challenges and blaze their own trail. By doing so, we continue to shape the world of mountain sports with our pioneering ideas and give our customers greater freedom to pursue their love of mountains, break new ground and push their limits.
NEW ADDITION TO OUR POPULAR ALPROOF AVALANCHE BACKPACK SERIES !
Every year, winter sports fans champ at the bit months before winter arrives, waiting for the magic white stuff to fall. But the arrival of fresh snow also heralds an increased risk of avalanches. And so moving through mountains in winter requires an added level of safety. According to a recent study from the Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF) which was conducted in Europe and North America 22% of avalanche victims still die, despite advances in avalanche beacons. If the avalanche victim is carrying an airbag backpack however, and they deploy it, the risk of death halves to 11%. Which makes airbag backpacks a wise investment and explains why they are in greater demand than ever. And it’s why we teamed up with renowned avalanche airbag manufacturer Alpride in 2022 to launch a new avalanche backpack series. It combines the wear comfort and high-quality materials and craftsmanship that we are known
for, with the reliable Swiss engineering of Alpride. The Alproof and Alproof Lite represented a new generation of avalanche backpacks with designs tailored precisely to the requirements of a range of winter sports. In winter 2023, the Alproof Tour then followed, specially designed for ski traverses. And now, in winter 2024, the Alproof series sees the addition of the Alproof Ride . The smallest in the series, this backpack is pitched at fans of freeriding and freestyle. Its lightweight, intuitive and technologically advanced avalanche safety equipment is teamed up with our proven Alpine back system for a body-hugging, secure fit, excellent comfort and effective ventilation across the back. The result is reliable load control over challenging terrain with maximum backcountry responsiveness — and without having to compromise on style.
DROUT — THE ALL-WEATHER, EVERYDAY COMPANION.
The Drout is a backpack that’s just as well suited to the college or uni commute, as it is on short journeys and days out. Made from hard-wearing fabric with taped and welded waterproof seams, and TPU-coated zippers, this waterproof (IPX4 rating) backpack keeps contents protected from rain and spray when used as intended. The spacious main compartment is accessed via a wide top-loading opening with Fidlock® fastener, making it quick and easy to pack and unpack. A zippered compartment on the front is perfect for anything that needs to be close at hand, while a built-in, removable
organizer unit can house a tablet or laptop (up to 16”) as well as documents. Our proven Contact back system with ergonomically shaped, padded shoulder straps, plus two-way adjustable sternum strap makes it comfortable to carry and gives it a secure fit to withstand the hustle and bustle of the urban jungle or the rigors of micro adventures in all weather. As a ClimatePartner certified product, it is climate neutral, and like all deuter products, also PFAS free.

REDUCING AND OFFSETTING
Countless environmental changes clearly indicate that we cannot keep on living and doing business in the same way we have. An aspect of this we have long grappled with is the challenge of making outdoor products whose manufacture, use, and disposal have minimal impact on humans and the natural world.
The most sustainable product is one that never gets made. But is that the solution? Probably not. Instead, a more effective long-term strategy could be based on sustainably made, long-lasting products, coupled with responsible consumer behavior. This is where we get to the term ‘climate neutrality’ which is a topic that has been debated for some time. It essentially equates to doing everything in our power to limit global warming to within 1.5 degrees Celsius. The roadmap to this is through “reducing and offsetting”.
And we must begin the process by looking at ourselves. We have already implemented all the structural and infrastructural measures we can to reduce the carbon footprint of our Gersthofen headquarters. Together with our manufacturing partners and suppliers, we are working on reducing our CO2 footprint lower down the supply chain. And we are also trying to make our products more sustainable by using more recycled and bluesign®-certified materials and adopting more sustainable technologies with a reduced carbon footprint. But despite our greatest efforts, it’s impossible to manufacture products that are climate neutral. Which is where offsetting comes into play, to deal with CO2 emissions that are unavoidable. Together with ClimatePartner, we assess and calculate all currently unavoidable CO2 emissions generated by our products and facilities, and then offset these to render them climate neutral. That means anything that cannot be
reduced any further is compensated for by investing in ClimatePartner-approved and managed projects throughout the world. This year, for example, we’ve supported a wind power project in Brazil, a forest protection project in Columbia and a clean water project in Mozambique.
It doesn’t make our manufacturing climate neutral, but it helps cut down or prevent CO2 emissions elsewhere.
GREENER AND GREENER... GREEN BUTTON 2.0
The Green Button (or Grüner Knopf) is a state-run international hallmark for sustainable textiles launched by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Its aim is to help consumers make informed purchasing decisions about textile products. The Green Button label is awarded to textile products that are sold by responsible manufacturers, made using only approved fibers and materials, and whose production processes have been verified by recognized social and environmental standards. When deuter signed up in 2021, it was just in its infancy. Thanks to invaluable feedback from stakeholders it has since grown and, in its second iteration as Green Button 2.0, has plenty of new additions. We, too, have undergone another review and, as of September 2023, now meet the requirements of the Green Button Standard 2.0 for implementing due diligence in production, manufacturing and sourcing processes and methods throughout the supply chains concerned.
WE TAKE OUR RESPONSIBILITY SERIOUSLY
We are mountain sports pioneers. As Europe’s largest backpack manufacturer, and sleeping bag experts, we have been shaping the international outdoor mountain sports scene for more than 125 years, and we take our responsibility to protect what we love for future generations very seriously.
To achieve this, we need people, nature and businesses to be in harmony. Or, as our vision puts it: ‘Together For 360° Responsibility’. In keeping with our slogan „Changing for the better means taking responsibility”, we have committed to an all-encompassing approach to doing business more sustainably. It includes all the key aspects, such as environmental protection and climate action, animal welfare, social justice, and social welfare – as well as our collaboration with partners, associations, and institutions – so that we can manufacture using fewer resources, create long-lasting products and support fair working conditions.
Responsibility is at the heart of everything we do and woven into the fabric of who we are.
WE MANUFACTURE ACCORDING TO BLUESIGN® STANDARDS – FOR THE SAKE OF PEOPLE AND PLANET
Even the most conscientiously made outdoor equipment creates an ecological footprint. We want to keep that footprint as small and light as possible. That’s why we have adopted the bluesign® system standard – the world’s strictest standard for environmental protection, occupational safety
FAIRNESS
FROM A TO Z – WITH THE FAIR WEAR
FOUNDATION
We have been Fair Wear Foundation members for more than 10 years now. The FWF is a multi-stakeholder initiative that works together with companies and factories to improve working conditions in textile
PARTNERSHIP FOR SUSTAINABLE TEXTILES – UNITED FOR GREATER SUSTAINABILITY
We want to make outdoor equipment in an environmentally friendly, sustainable way, under fair working conditions and within socially responsible manufacturing and supply chains. These chains are long and complex, and often hard for one company alone
GREEN BUTTON FOR GREEN PRODUCTS
Policymakers have also recognized that textile manufacturing cannot become more sustainable without cross-border standards. deuter is collaborating with the international “Green Button” (Grüner Knopf) hallmark initiated by the German government. It is the world’s first state-supervised certification mark
RESPONSIBLE DOWN STANDARD –FOR THE LOVE OF ANIMALS
Even sustainable natural materials have to be produced in an environmentally sound way. That is why, since 2015, we’ve exclusively used high-quality feathers that are Responsible Down Standard (RDS)
and consumer protection in the textile industry – to guide us in our production. As part of the bluesign® partnership, we have worked to make our production processes and products more resource efficient and environmentally friendly since 2008. With impressive results: 100% of our direct manufacturing partners are bluesign® system partners and the number of bluesign® products in our collection is steadily rising.

to clearly assess. Which is why we have teamed up with other manufacturing partners and businesses through our membership of the Bündnis für Nachhaltige Textilien (Partnership for Sustainable Textiles). The initiative, which was set up in 2014 by the German government, brings together stakeholders from business, civil society, standards organizations, and trade unions under one umbrella.
to establish compliance standards for sustainably produced textiles. This global seal of approval sets mandatory requirements to protect people and the environment. A total of 46 stringent social and environmental standards must be met, such as wastewater limits and the prohibition of forced labor.
OUR OWN INITIATIVES
We are especially proud of the sustainability initiatives that we have undertaken ourselves and which we have already been successfully implementing for some time. These are further grist for the mill in realizing our vision and our holistic, fully integrated road to sustainable business practices.

United Nations (UN). It is based on 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which we use to guide us in shaping our ‘deuter promise’ sustainability agenda.
REDUCING AND OFFSETTING
Climate change is one of the most urgent challenges facing our planet. Which is why we are taking action. In order to achieve our climate goals, we are working closely together with the international experts at ClimatePartner. Our headquarters in Gersthofen, Germany, has been ClimatePartner certified since 2021, and by 2023 a minimum of 25% of our collection will be climate neutral.
The acronym PFC is well known and has been used as a catch-all term to refer to the broad class of harmful but extremely useful chemicals used in water-, dirt- and grease-repellent finishes on textiles, for example, and in the manufacture of water-repellent and breathable membranes. However, in more specialist publications, the term PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) is now more widely used. The two acronyms, PFC and PFAS, are generally interchangeable. From the middle of 2019, we dispensed with all PFC/PFAS from our DWR (durable water repellent) finishes – these toxic substances nicknamed “forever chemicals” that leach into the environment during the manufacture, usage, and disposal of products, and are proven to cause harm to humans, animals and the environment. So while the acronym is now different, we can still enjoy the same high standards in water and dirt repellency with our environmentally friendly finish, which is also harmless to human and animal health.
TRUST AND COLLABORATION PAY OFF
The German Sustainability Award is the most coveted award of its kind in Germany, and Europe’s biggest prize for environmental and social action. It recognizes exemplary global partnerships in the textile industry, where collaboration has led to the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and integration of accountability into supply chains. In 2022, we were the recipients of the German Sustainability Award with our Vietnamese partner Vina Duke, in acknowledgment of our 30-year partnership based on trust, our shared commitment to social and environmental responsibility, and our pioneering role in this field.
However well you look after a product, at some stage, it will start to show signs of wear and tear. For us, there is no doubt that mending gear is better than throwing it away. And that’s not just because we have some real miracle workers in our repairs department, but because providing a lifetime repair service also increases the lifespan of a product, which in turn saves resources.

SL-COLLECTION
Female specific packs
deuter SL-Team
deuter’s product development team for the women’s specific SL line consists of female designers and top athletes from all disciplines / sports. It’s almost an occupational habit that our experts can never stand still. Since 2006 they are always pushing forward – also when it comes to developing products.
Our rucksacks are designed to fit the average athletic build. However, since not everyone fits the norm it is likely that women’s models will fit many male users perfectly well, and vice versa.
EL-SERIES Extra Long Series
SHORTER BACK
Women usually have a shorter back than men. Our SL carrying systems are adapted to the female anatomy and therefore shorter.
SLIM-CUT SHOULDER STRAPS
The SL shoulder straps have a distinct S-shape and all-round soft edges. In addition the straps become slimmer towards their ends. For a perfect fit around the shoulder area - no pinching or chaffing. The shoulder straps lie closer together and are adapted to slimmer female shoulders.
CONICAL HIP-FINS
The closed SL hip belt forms a cone to perfectly adapt to the female anatomy. The conical shape is the result of the the ends of the hipbelt coming together in an upward direction and the anatomically adapted design for the SL hip fins. The hip fins perfectly hug the female hips.
THE DEUTER EXTRA LONG SERIES
Tall people can enjoy a perfect fit with our Extra Long EL-models! Taller sportsmen and -women between 1.85 – 2 m often have difficulty finding backpacks that fit their longer backs. Our favourite deuter backpack models are available to suit taller people with extended back lengths by 6-9 cm. Overall, backpacks in the Extra Long (EL) series have also grown in terms of volume. Back systems, features and details remain the same in the EL models as they are in the standard models, however.

INFINITI
INFINITI SERIES– MADE FROM REMNANTS
And with it, we’ve managed to cut down our carbon footprint even further. By taking remnants from our production we’ve developed versatile, sustainable products in what we call the Infiniti series. These bags and packs are made from lovely fabric remnants from the manufacture of existing deuter products.
For the Infiniti series, we use remnants fabric from our production line that is 100% functional. This surplus fabric, which would otherwise go to waste, is turned into a series of bags and packs, thereby reducing the ecological footprint of our production. There are variations between the individual products in terms of the way these fabrics are applied, the surface area that is used and their aesthetics. But all fabrics are tested for functionality to ensure the end product is of a consistently high standard.
deuter is proud to support the 1 % for the Planet nonprofit organization with sales of its Infiniti series. 1 % for the Planet supports businesses and individuals in giving back to the planet in the most impactful way possible by building strategic partnerships that connect funds with causes.
By donating 10% of the buying price of the Infiniti series to 1% for the Planet, deuter is delighted to be supporting environmental projects throughout the world.

Our manufacturing process well as the quality of the textiles we use ensures the long-time durability and longevity of our products. The materials we use are adapted to their future use as backpack textiles and produced especially for deuter. Performance, deuter’s standards, and their safety for consumers are regularly tested in labs and are therefore assured.
The majority of the raw material we use in our textiles is polyester (PES) and polyamide (PA). They handle well due to their properties and they are robust and tearproof. The outer fabrics we use, especially our rain covers, are water resistant. This provides ideal traits of products that are intensively used outside like our backpacks and sleeping bags.
All our textiles are coated on the inside, making the respective material more durable, more water repellent, and the seams more stable. The consistency and strength of this polyurethane coating (PU) varies depending on its future use. The outside of our textiles is treated with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coat to obtain a high level of water and dirt repellent properties. We only use PFAS free finishings.
We use textiles in differing strengths to make sure our products fulfil their respective function. We state these in denier (D). This measurement unit is established in the outdoor market and has lead to comparability within our own collection. It goes back to the old French unit of weight also called denier. This means that 1D = 1 gramme per 9000 meters of yarn. The lower the number in front of the “D” the thinner the respective textile. Our unit therefore describes fabrics that range from very sturdy and durable to extremely light textiles.
However, the durability and strength of a textile cannot only be taken from its denier number. The weave, structure, and application-oriented mix of raw materials also plays a role.
The finishing of the yarn before the weaving process also has a decisive impact. We also state relevant equipment and features. Weaving in stronger threads or reinforced structures can make thinner material more durable and more stable. We call this feature “Ripstop” for example. If other processed or surface-finished yarns are used then the product is labelled with “high tenacity”.
YKK® zippers: The most high-quality zippers available on the market are absolutely robust and reliable.
Multi-chamber aluminium profile rails: The weight-bearing elements of our backpacks are made from high-quality aluminium. This makes them durable and light at the same time. Its special constructions makes it possible to combine these two traits. A flat aluminium rail is separated into several different chambers by internal partitions. The cross sections shows a hive-like structure that provides stability. The multi-chamber aluminium profile rails are used in differing widths depending on the model of the backpack.
Permanently elastic spring steel frames: Spring steel is incredibly durable and elastic. It springs back into form again and again nearly unbreakable after being deformed. A round profile allows a very flexible construction of the frame. A flat profile provides a frame with extremely high form stability. Both give our Aircomfort models with its patented ventilation a permanently stable tension of the back net.
Our upper materials and filling for sleeping bags are made of polyamide and also polyester for the most part. We predominantly process textiles with low deniers. These are also often structured. The fabrics are light and at the same time very durable and always moisture repellent. PFAS free materials are increasingly being used.In addition we also make sure to use breathable materials to ensure pleasant sleeping conditions.
Fabric in the so-called Dryzones is especially processed and enables a high water column. The sleeping bag stays comfortably dry.
Our fillings are also light and comfortable. Good insulation properties and breathability are necessary requirements for the materials that we use in our products.
Some of our sleeping bags used brushed materials like the Brushed Thermo Fleece. The light and very high-quality polyester fleece feels soft and cozy to the skin due to its fluffy brushed surface. The material offers an excellent warmthweight ration. Furthermore it is highly breathable, long-lasting, and easy to clean. Its short drying time is another benefit.
Its high level of elasticity supports freedom of movement of the Thermo-Stretch-Comfort-construction in our Exosphere SL models. It also keeps warm in the Orbit SL models.
FILLING SLEEPING BAG
Synthetic
High-Loft Hollowfiber: Synthetic hollow fibres are processed to a filling fleece (by thermal bonding). To ensure good compression and high loft, silicone is added. Remarkable insulation rating, tear resistant and durable.
Thermo ProLoft®: A special thermal process turns Polyester fibres into top quality technical Thermo ProLoft® insulating fleece. The combination of dense and hollow fibres results in the prefect blend between durability, weight and warmth properties – a fleece material that is easy care and durable yet compact and offers excellent insulation at minimal weight. The synthetic fibres also absorb very little moisture. Short drying times, excellent loft and thus insulation properties even when damp, are all advantageous characteristics. deuter Thermo ProLoft® is also coated with a thin layer of silicone to give it good lofting properties.
Combining: deuter sleeping bags Orbit, Exosphere and Space can be zipped together. Use left-hand zip and right-hand zip versions when combining.
Down
Since June 2005 we only use down feathers certified in accordance with the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) – benefits: no live plucking, no force feeding, supply chain traceability, animal welfare guaranteed at every stage and verification by independent certification institutes around the world.
Composition: The deciding factor in a down sleeping bag is the down quality. Primarily this is a matter of the weight ratio of down to small feather mixture, which is expressed in percent. deuter uses only the high performance filling ratio of 90% down to 10% small feather (90/10).
Fill power / cuin: High quality sleeping bags should have a fill power of at least 650 cuin (cubic inches). This measurement in cubic inches per ounce of down shows the quality of the bulking and expansion power of the filling. High quality down has a bulking volume of 650 cuin (10.6 litres) per 1 ounce (28.3g). A bulking power of 550 cuin, and higher is good; of 650 - excellent; and 800 is almost impossible. In the end: the higher the volume the better the insulation value.
