ORIGINS ENTERS US MARKET, FLYROC™ 310

Mudroc™ 290 The inov-8 journey began in 2003 with one vision: to create natural, lightweight footwear with powerful grip that could handle the most demanding off-road terrain.

2003 The vision was brought to life with the launch of the mudroc™ 290. Awarded ‘Product of the Year 2003’ by Runners World, our revolutionary shoe was an instant success. In competition, Melissa Moon won Alaska’s WMRA Trophy. She wore a pair of mudroc™ 290 shoes that she borrowed on the day. Also, Tim Davies won the Snowdon International Mountain Race. A great start for the mudroc™ 290 and inov-8.

ORIGINS

Like any true athlete we continually looked to the next challenge. After our success in the UK and Europe, we focused on the US market. It was a move that proved a key development in the inov-8 journey. Building on the triumphant launch of the mudroc™ 290, we launched our flyroc™ 310. And we did it globally.

2004

The unique flyroc™ 310 stayed true to our original vision. And was the first minimalist, lightweight shoe, tough enough to stand up to the rigours of trail running.

ARROW SYSTEM LAUNCH, PRODUCT INNOVATIONS In 2005, years before the competition, we launched the arrow system. It was based on the height difference between a shoe’s heel and its toe.

WATERPROOF RANGE In 2006, we delivered the influential flyroc™ 345 GTX. A cutting edge, lightweight and waterproof trail running shoe. It received the ‘Editor’s Choice Award’ by Runners World.

2005 The system provided a transition-focused approach for athletes to develop a better running technique. It was a whole new approach to running. And one that helped us design a range of new product innovations, such as the f-lite™ 250, which won a number of industry awards. Continually pushing harder to create the best running experience possible, we developed and launched the extremely lightweight mudclaw™ 270. Without the use of a spike it delivered the most aggressively gripping sole in the market.

2006

Another development led to the launch of the roclite™ 315 long-distance running shoe. John Basham was kind enough to smash the Colorado Trail speed record wearing them, and the success didn’t stop there. The roclite™ 315 went on to win ‘Trail Shoe of the Year’ for three consecutive years.

RACE PRO PACKS, ENHANCED WATERPROOF RANGE

2007 Delivering on our principles of staying natural and fast, we moved into lightweight packs. Built around the unique H20rizontal™ hydration system the race pro™ series was born. Both products were an instant success winning a number of industry awards. Building on the success of the flyroc™ 345 GTX in 2006, we launched a range of waterproof trail shoes. They were unrivalled. The range included the roclite™ 318 GTX – voted ‘Best Protection Shoe’ by National Geographic.

F-LITE™ 230, FIRST OFF-ROAD RUNNING CENTRE

ROAD RANGE, TERRAFLY™ RANGE, BARE-XF™ 210

Staying true to our belief of stripping things back we launched our awesome f-lite™ 230. This elite, lightweight racing flat was perfectly designed for hardpacked surfaces.

After our success off road, we entered the road running market with the road-x™. It was quickly followed by the bare-x™, which offered a minimalist option for the most advanced natural runners.

However, the f-lite™ 230 was also a high-performance all-round sports shoe. In the US, the functional fitness community was all over it. Its low-profile sole made it ideal for high intensity workouts.

2009

The popularity of the x-talon™ 212 cemented our position as a leader in performance off-road shoes. It also helped drive inov-8’s global presence to 20 countries.

2010

Meanwhile in the UK, our first off-road running centre opened in Glasgow. Its mission was simple: to offer the best customer experience possible, and it delivered.

In the same year, we grew our already prominent waterproof trail shoe range with the roclite 400™ GTX. And in doing so, gave the world its lightest ever leather GORE-TEX® boot. But it was the launch of evoskin™ that really shook things up. Our most radical barefoot product to date offered the closest protected barefoot experience on the market. 220 Triathlon awarded it ‘Best in Test’.

A decade of boundary pushing under our belt, we are going extreme and committed in 2013 as we celebrate 10 years.

TRAILROC™ RANGE

Incredible product coupled with headline-hogging performances by our athletes, continue to see us stamp our name all over the world map.

2012 saw the launch of the trailroc™ range. Using unique Tri-C™ technology, the range delivered the most aggressively gripping sole unit of any dry trail shoe.

Allowing the foot to run naturally was a dream we came one step closer to with the launch of the bare-grip™

200. With no midsole, it was our first zero drop shoe. Its success was immediate.

In 2008, we launched a radical new off-road shoe. It was built on the mudroc™ 290’s DNA, but the x-talon™ 212 was different. This was the world’s lightest off-road shoe. Ever. Its success was massive. It won more World Championships in off-road running than any other shoe. Plus, Men’s Journal awarded it ‘Gear of the Year’.

TEN YEARS ON

2011 We then bridged the gap by launching the terrafly™. A range of shoes designed for both off-road and road conditions. We then established our position as a key player within functional fitness footwear with the launch of the bare-xf™ 210. It was a hugely successful year. By the end of it inov-8’s global presence stretched to 50 countries.

2012 As we enter 10 years of inov-8, products are now sold in 60+ countries worldwide. From a simple ideology the inov-8 story is extraordinary, just like the athletes who choose us. It’s a story with many exciting chapters to come. We’ll continue to challenge industry norms, continue to create groundbreaking new products, and continue to maximize the experience of the extreme athlete.

2013 The daredevil trailroc™ 150 won a prestigious award at ISPO, while an updated version of the legendary x-talon™ 212 is set to go down a storm with off-trail racers later this year. Meanwhile, our status as a big-hitter within the functional fitness market continues to boom with the natural f-lite™ range and the fastlift™ weightlifting shoe. However, we are not done there. Progress to zero Can natural ability be learned? The short answer: ‘Yes’. The long answer: ‘Hell yes’. Our feet have been taken down the wrong path too long. Seek natural movement. Let the foot control the shoe. Years before anyone else, inov-8 pioneered the ‘Arrow System’, reducing differential from heel-to-toe, helping athletes improve their own performance. inov-8 products start at 3 Arrows. You can start wherever you like. 3 Arrows gives the biggest heel-to-toe drop in the inov-8 range, about half of that found in overly cushioned, structured shoes. As you drop arrows you tend to drop weight and cushioning, you tend to gain proprioception and speed. Reach Zero for a pure performance shoe – lightweight, stripped-back and fast. Dominate-the-race kind of fast. Athletes not yet conditioned for natural running choose 3 Arrows. The same goes for those wanting a shoe for long endurance sessions, although we do tailor our products to each terrain. If you’re introducing stripped back shoes into shorter sessions choose 2 or 1 Arrows.

The drop can be identified by the number of arrows on the heel of the shoe. Each arrow represents 3mm drop / heel-to-toe differential.

Our designs have a sock-like fit in order to encourage agility and responsiveness to the terrain. They go from ‘endurance’ for when your feet need to flex over longer sessions through to ‘precision’ in order to hold your feet fast over loose and sliding terrain.

4 different lasts... whole & half sizes... 3mm & 6mm footbeds... The ‘last’ is the form that is used to determine the shape and fit of the shoe. We use four lasts, each of which give the shoe a distinct fit.

PRECISION

A precise fit ensures minimal internal movement when contouring, ascending and descending. Ideal for racing on any terrain and all off trail activities.

NATURAL

Based on the shape of the foot, this is our most natural fit. More room in the toe box allows the toes to spread.

The microporous structure of the GORE-TEX® membrane consists of approximately 1.4 billion pores per square centimetre. Each pore is about 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water and therefore no moisture can penetrate from the outside.
