ZUVERSICHT IN SCHWIERIGEM UMFELD

Wir leben im Moment in schwierigen Zeiten. Ukrainekrise, steigende Energiepreise, sinkende Nachfrage, hohe Inflation und eventuelle weitere Coronawellen sind Rahmenbedingungen, die uns derzeit alle beschäftigen. Die kommenden Wochen und Monate werden uns vor Herausforderungen stellen, die wir nur gemeinsam angehen und meistern können. Doch trotz der angespannten Situation sehen wir bei aller Vorsicht die längerfristige Entwicklung positiv und mit Zuversicht.

Darin bestärkt uns das Wissen, dass Outdoor ein nachhaltiger Trend ist. Die Menschen wollen raus in die Natur. LOWA und seine Partner haben schon viele Krisen gut überstanden. Das wird uns aktuell besonders bewusst, denn im Jahr 2023 steht unser Jubiläum „100 Jahre LOWA“ an. Das möchten wir mit allen unseren Partnern, Mitarbeitenden und Kunden:innen gebührend feiern. Daher möchte ich an dieser Stelle auch die Gelegenheit nutzen, um nochmals an alle recht herzlich Danke zu sagen.

Hinzu kommen auf umfassender Erfahrung beruhende neue Entwicklungen im Winter- und Kids-Segment. Erwähnen möchte ich das Damenmodell BARINA EVO GTX Ws, den wohl modischsten Einstieg in die Winterzeit. Oder den CALCETA EVO GTX Ws, ein farbenfroher Winterstiefel, der in der City genauso punktet, wie bei einem ausgedehnten Schneespaziergang. Eine Neuentwicklung ist zum Beispiel der Kids-Boot LINO GTX, bei dem wir aus den besten Komponenten zwei erfolgreicher bestehender Modelle einen neuen Top-Schuh kreiert haben.

VOM LOWA AIR ZUM WINTERBOOT

1972 gelingt dem Entwickler-Team bei LOWA - immer mit dabei Josef Lederer, Sohn von Lorenz Wagner - mit dem LOWA AIR eine Revolution bei den Skischuhen. Kunststoffe hatten inzwischen die Skischuh-Herstellung revolutioniert. LOWA war bei dieser Entwicklung vorne dabei, und setzte sich schließlich an die Spitze. Der LOWA AIR war im Inneren mit Luftkissen gepolstert, die durch eine kleine Pumpe dem Fuß exakt angepasst werden konnten. Die Skischuhe wurden ein großer Erfolg und manch einer denkt bei dem Namen LOWA auch heute noch an den LOWA AIR.

50 Jahre später zählen die warmen Winterschuhe von LOWA fest zur Kollektion des Outdoor-Schusters. Mit seinen COLD WEATHER BOOTS schafft LOWA den Spagat zwischen stylischen Winterboots und funktionalen Wanderschuhen.

FROM LOWA AIR TO WINTER BOOTS

In 1972, the development team at LOWA – a group that always included Josef Lederer, the son of Lorenz Wagner – started a revolution in ski boots: LOWA AIR. Plastics had already propelled the business of making ski boots into another dimension. LOWA was one of the driving forces behind this development and ultimately became the leader of the pack. The LOWA AIR was an air-cushioned inner boot that could be custom-fit to the wearer’s feet with the help of a small pump. The ski boots became a tremendous success, and some people still think of LOWA AIR when they hear the name “LOWA” today.

Fifty years later, the warm winter boots made by LOWA are a permanent member of the outdoor shoemaker’s collection. LOWA’s COLD WEATHER BOOTS successfully balance the competing needs for stylish winter boots and functional hiking footwear.

Kein Märchen, sondern eine wahre Geschichte: Lorenz, Hans und Adolf Wagner lebten vor mehr als hundert Jahren in der bayerischen Gemeinde Jetzendorf an der Ilm. Sie erlernten das Schuster-Handwerk von ihrem Vater und schrieben danach Alpinschuh-Geschichte: Als Gründer der Marken LOWA, Hanwag und Hochland.

Lorenz Wagner, geboren 1893, übernahm als ältester Sohn 1922 das Anwesen seiner Eltern in Jetzendorf. Dazu gehörte etwas Grund und die Landschusterei seines Vaters Johann. Lorenz hatte große Pläne: Er wollte die „kleinbäuerliche Schusterwerkstatt“ zu einem richtigen „Betrieb“ ausbauen. Also erwarb er erste Maschinen und gründete 1923 sein eigenes Unternehmen, das damals noch nicht LOWA hieß. In den 1930er Jahren taucht die Firma als „Ilmtaler Sportschuhfabrik“ in Dokumenten auf.

ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WERE THREE BROTHERS

But don’t be mistaken: This is not some fairy tale. It is a true story. Lorenz, Hans and Adolf Wagner lived in the Bavarian community of Jetzendorf on the river Ilm more than 100 years ago. Their father taught the cobbler trade to them, and the three went on to make alpine boot history: as the founders of the brands LOWA, Hanwag and Hochland.

As the oldest son, Lorenz Wagner, who was born in 1893, took over the business from his parents in 1922. It included some land and the country cobbler’s shop of his father, Johann. Lorenz had some big plans: He wanted to turn the “small-time shoemaker's shop” into a real “company”. He then bought his first machinery and established his own company in 1923, a business that had not yet been named LOWA. A company called “Ilmtaler Sportschuhfabrik” is mentioned in documents from the 1930s.

The lasts used for LOWA’s children’s footwear are not simply miniversions of the lasts used for adults’ feet. They have been specially modified to reflect the anatomy of children’s feet and reduced in size. In addition, the height and width of the heel, toe and instep areas have been modified.

WOMAN LAST

DOUBLE INJECTION

Für eine wirkungsvolle Dämpfung und einen hohen Tragekomfort wird die Sohle des Schuhs über ein technisch aufwendiges Anspritzverfahren mit dem Schaft verbunden. Dazu kommt der Oberschuh in eine speziell gefertigte Gussform. In diese wird anschließend in unterschiedlichen Schichten ein PU-Schaumstoff eingebracht. Daraus entsteht die Sohle, die sich direkt mit dem Schaft zu einer Einheit verbindet.

To provide effective cushioning and improved comfort, the sole is bonded to the upper in a technically demanding injection process. The upper boot is placed into a specially designed mould. Various layers of PU-foam padding are then poured into it. In the process, the sole and upper are bonded together.

SUPPORT FRAME

X-LACING®

Ein optimaler Sitz der Zunge, ohne Verrutschen und Druckstellen: Mit der X-LACING® -Technologie ist dies problemlos möglich. Durch die spezielle Schnürung wird die Zunge sowohl vertikal als auch horizontal fixiert. Die Schnürung ist dabei von der individuellen Höhe des Ristes unabhängig und damit für jeden Fuß bestens geeignet. Durch diese Schnürtechnologie wird der Druck der Bänder nicht mehr nur auf die Haken, sondern flächig auf die Zunge übertragen.

Optimum positioning of the tongue, without any slippage or pressure points: This is what X-LACING® technology is all about. This special lacing system secures the tongue both vertically and horizontally. As a result, the lacing system gains independence from the height of the instep, making it perfect for any type of foot. This technology ensures that the pressure of the laces is transferred not just to the hooks but to the tongue as well.

C4-TONGUE

Bei dieser speziellen Konstruktion der Schuhzunge wird der Tragekomfort merklich erhöht. So ist die Zunge zum Beispiel auf der Fußaußenseite dicker gepolstert und verfügt über einen weichen Abschluss am oberen Ende. Diese asymmetrische Polsterung sorgt für eine optimale Unterstützung in verschiedenen Fußbereichen. Zudem sind die Aussparungen für die Knöchelbereiche innen höher als außen. Zusätzlich ist ein flexibler Beugeeinsatz auf der Fußinnenseite integriert, um der Anatomie der Füße Rechnung zu tragen.

The specially designed footwear tongue substantially enhances comfort. The tongue includes extra padding for the outer portion of the foot, and the upper end of it is especially soft. This asymmetric padding provides optimum support to many areas of the foot. To take into account the foot’s natural anatomy, the recesses for the ankle area have also been placed higher on the inside than on the outside, and a flexible bending insert has been integrated into the inner side by the foot.

I-LOCK

Einfach festziehen und fixieren: Um die Schnürung zu vereinfachen, hat LOWA einen speziellen Klemmhaken entwickelt. Dieser erlaubt eine Schnürung in zwei Zonen. Nachdem im unteren Bereich des Schuhs die Schnürung festgezogen wurde, kann über diesen Klemmhaken der Senkel blockiert werden. Durch einfaches nach oben drücken des Hakenbügels löst sich die Klemmung, und die Ristschnürung kann gelockert werden. Just pull tight and lock in place: To simplify the job of tying footwear, LOWA has developed a special type of fastening hook. Special feature: the system holds the laces in place in two different zones. Once the laces have been pulled tight in the lower area, they can be locked in place with the help of the fastening hook. Simply pressing the hook fastener upwards releases the locking action and the instep laces can be loosened.

2 ZONE LACING

Durch die Zweizonenschnürung verfügen der Vorfuß und Schaft über getrennt einstellbare Schnürzonen. Dadurch kann der Schuh individuell an die Anatomie des Fußes angepasst werden.

PADDED EDGING

Bei Frauen beginnt der Wadenansatz tiefer als bei Männern. Daher sind Outdoor- Schuhe für Frauen bei LOWA mit einem speziellen Schaftabschluss ausgestattet. Dieser ist weicher und flexibler.

Women’s calves begin lower than men’s do. For this reason, the outdoor footwear that LOWA makes for women is equipped with specially padded edging. This is both softer and more flexible.

ROLLER EYELETS

Damit der Schnürsenkel flexibel und geschmeidig durch die Ösen läuft, minimieren kleine Kugeln in den Metallschlaufen die Reibung. To ensure that the laces run flexibly and smoothly through the eyelets, small roller balls minimise friction in the metal loops.

FLEXFIT®

Wenn sich der Schaft eines Wanderschuhs leicht beugen lässt, kann der Fuß besser abrollen. Dies spart vor allem beim Bergaufgehen Kraft und sorgt für spürbaren Komfort. Daher hat LOWA eine flexible Zone und einen sog. „Lace Loop“ im Bereich der Fußbeuge eingearbeitet. Darunter versteht man das Versetzen der Öse und den Einsatz eines flexiblen Tiefzughakens, der den Fersensitz verbessert und die Beugung erleichtert.

Feet can roll more effectively if the upper of a hiking boot can be easily bent. Such a feature saves energy when the wearer climbs hills and it provides real comfort in the process. For this reason, LOWA has integrated a flexible zone and a “lace loop” into the instep area. This involves repositioning the boot’s eyelets and using a flexible lace hook that improves heel comfort and facilitates bending.
