Mighty marigold
A surprise snowstorm hit with a vengeance last Friday, destroying gardens and flattening crops. Freezing temperatures overnight brought a sudden end to the season for many rural garden plots. This sole survivor, a knownto-be-hearty marigold, stubbornly supported a heavy load of melting snow the next morning. Temperatures returned Photo by Brenda Shenton to normal the following day.
