In the end, he took home a bronze medal and still regarded the experience as a net positive. An X-ray in Canada proved that he had indeed broken his collarbone.

Kellee Irwin was impressed when she heard Ryan’s story. “He never even complained or said he was in pain,” she says. “He sucked it up and kept going.”

The committee in Toronto decided to give him the Bert Irwin Award, which is named after a motorcyclist who was among the first Canadians to compete in the ISDE. The award for overcoming great odds was named for him because he put up a big fight against cancer before passing away in 1994, Kellee says.

She thought it was great to present the award to Ryan and meet his parents, finding that the ISDE really is a family event.

“I was pretty excited to receive it,” Ryan says. He had won trophies in racing before, but this was a rarer honour.

He has always enjoyed motorcycling and the speed, becoming involved in the sport because his uncles were.

With fall here, the racing season has wrapped up for another year. Ryan doesn’t know whether he will qualify for Team Canada again, and with his jobs and the expense of travelling he may not be able to go. However, Ryan is still taking his motorcycle out on rides to Porcupine Hills and Kananaskis.

My Little Corner Walking the few blocks to Pincher Creek’s polling station on Monday afternoon, I contemplated what it must be like to be the one who makes the final decisions that affect more than 35 million Canadians.

Politics at a local level can be daunting, but it must be terrifying to act as prime minister. Imagine the stress of having every single move critiqued, every spoken word quoted, misquoted and analyzed, and your face the background for the day’s trending social media meme.

I’m referring to each man and woman who has held the position, not just to today’s leader or whoever takes the reins tomorrow.

It’s a job I can’t fathom wanting to hold.

That’s simply my opinion.

From a block away, many were visible coming and going from the polling station. This put a smile on my face. People making time to vote is what we need to see in this hotly contested election.

Voter apathy has become almost an epidemic.

We’ve seen it over and over again on local, provincial and federal levels, and it’s frustrating to know how many simply haven’t cared enough to vote.

Advance poll turnout broke records, with 3.6 million people marking an X in the spot that suited them best. This is a 71 per cent increase over the 2011 federal vote, and is worthy to note.

People are demanding change. Whether it comes in the form of a new party in power or in the reform of an old, the message coming from the public is clear. The people have let it known they will be heard.

Politics can bring out the best in people, and also the worst. Propaganda and mudslinging have made me weary in this long campaign. Some of it has been extremely ignorant, especially what abounds on social media. It seems no one has been spared and everyone is trashing another.

Every line I read is with a degree of skepticism.

After all, anyone can post words they believe to be true and words they know are false to the Internet. It can be difficult to separate fact from fiction, and this age of information sharing can be scary.

Bullying, name calling and arrogance are not traits I wish to see in anyone in a position of power, yet these negativities abound at election time.

Through my rose-coloured glasses, I would love to watch a campaign unfold where candidates spoke honestly about themselves and what they would bring to the table if elected. No promises made that couldn’t be kept, or lies told.

Wouldn’t that be something?

Teddy bear donation will help children in emergency situations

By Brad Quarin The Pincher Creek hospital admitted dozens of teddy bears earlier this month, but the bears were not in need of care.

The stuffies are intended to soothe frantic or crying children, courtesy of the Pincher Creek Elks, who donated 50 teddy bears to the Pincher Creek Health Centre and EMS. Ken Neumann, past president of the Elks, delivered the bears.

His son, Deputy Chief Pat Neumann of Pincher Creek Emergency Services, says he has seen distressed children receive teddy bears before, and they

“If you watch a kid, they can change totally when they’re given something like that,” he says. “It offers them … something they’re more comfortable with.”

It makes treating children easier for EMS, too.

The bears came from the Elks national charities, and together cost about $500. The Pincher Creek Elks raised the money through catering and other fundraising activities, Ken says.

Each teddy bear will be the child’s to keep, so if the hospital and EMS run low they can turn to the Elks again for more.

Pincher Creek library has good friends, indeed

In the spring of 2015, the Friends of the Library group celebrated its 25th anniversary. This included a small private party at the library in which the board members and library staff honoured the Friends.

Special commemorative mugs were commissioned from local potter Judith Green. About 50 of these mugs were presented to members of the community who volunteer or have volunteered with the Friends group in the first 25 years.

Prints by local artist Janifer Calvez were presented to Maureen Rouleau, Barb Kananen and Anne Elle — members who had been active for over 20 years. Betty Gamble was unable to be present.

Calvez prints were also given to Karen Lyons, Rose Johnson, Caroline Johnson and Bill Smith.

These four had joined the group by the first or second meeting and three of them are still active members.

Coun. Lorne Jackson (town) and Reeve Brian Hammond (MD) brought greetings on behalf of their respective councils. The library board gratefully acknowledges the financial support from the town and the MD, which helped to make the celebration possible.

Maggie Macdonald, CEO of Chinook Arch Regional Libraries, was unable to attend but sent greetings: “There is no doubt that the more than $400,000 you have raised has been of major importance to your library. The equipment and resources you have contributed have benefited the entire community and district, and your support has

doubtless made a significant impact on the lives of the countless individuals who have enjoyed the services of the Pincher Creek and District Municipal Library…. It is always a benefit to the library to have a strong group of supporters in its corner.”

Never a group to be slackers, the Friends held their fall book sale this month.

At the spring 2015 book sale, just over $2,600 was raised. At the request of the library staff, the money was spent to update the books-on-CD collections for children and adults and the large-print collection.

An annual donation was made to the Pincher Planters to help them maintain the flower beds around the library.

An ode to the Burmis Tree Recent discussion of the Burmis Tree reminded me of a poem I wrote in the mid 1980s for our janitor, John Plumb, who used to work at the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre.

John wondered why no one had written a poem about the Burmis Tree, so I wrote him one, I believe in about 10 minutes. John loved it, and though he’s gone, now, I remember him and his delight in the simple poetry.

Terry Fox school walk tally is impressive

By Brad Quarin Local youth excelled in carrying the torch for Terry Fox in a series of walks at the end of September. In various ways, the schools raised funds for cancer research and the Terry Fox Foundation.

Pincher Creek’s Canyon School led the pack, successfully raising $5,730.35.

St. Michael’s School raised over $974 and Matthew Halton High School brought in around $400.

Livingstone School in Lundbreck was the first school in the area to have a Terry Fox Walk this year, and raised about $200 for the Terry Fox Foundation.

In Crowsnest Pass, Horace Allen School, Isabelle Sellon School and Crowsnest Consolidated High School united to carry the banner through Blairmore.

HAS raised $430, ISS brought in over $350 and CCHS contributed $875 to the effort. In all cases, the students showed great spirit.

Harvest of Memories raises $29,000 for Crowsnest Historical Society

By Brad Quarin This year’s Harvest of Memories fundraiser for the Crowsnest Historical Society and Crowsnest Museum was a huge success.

“This was an amazing year for us,” says Chris Matthews, executive director of Crowsnest Museum.

Around 180 people attended and told the society they had a good time. The night even saw Elvis Presley showing up to sing, though the other musician, Al Rypien, was mysteriously absent while the King was in.

The event was also a financial success, thanks to attendees, Blairmore Scotiabank matching ticket sales, gold sponsorship from Teck Coal and Lorna Mochinski, and great silver and bronze sponsors.

After expenses, the event raised $29,000 for the historical society, nearly doubling last year’s total.

A jar of honey made by the historical society’s past president Fred Bradley was also auctioned off, donated back to the society and auctioned again several times.

The $3,500 raised from the honey will go to charities associated with Hanne Meketech, Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette and Terry Blanchette, community members tragically lost recently. The money will support the celebration of Hanne’s life and the Pure Country fund to memorialize Hailey and Terry at Blairmore Lions Park.

“We can’t thank the community enough,” Chris says. “We look forward to doing it again next year.”

By Brad Quarin For five years, scores of little ghouls and goblins have been manifesting at M.D. McEachern Community Centre in Bellevue on the Saturday before All Hallows’ Eve. This year, Halloween falls on Saturday, so children in disguise can celebrate this year’s Spooktacular on the big day.

“There’s a lot there for the kids, packed into two hours,” says lead co-ordinator Krissy Ames.

The event provides Halloween-themed activities for ages two to nine, all for free. The Spooktacular is a collaboration of numerous community groups, such as Parent Link, Brighter Futures, the Indoor Playground and the Boys and Girls Club.

A new activity this year will be trick-or-treating, as costumed youngsters can go from door to door within MDM for candy, prizes or other goodies.

Different businesses and non-profit groups will be decorating the doors, including Allied Arts, Fish and Wildlife, Frank Slide Interpretive Centre, the municipality and the chamber of commerce. Trick-or-treating will be offered throughout the whole Spooktacular, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The main event will be in the gym, where Bellevue Underground Mine will let children decorate cupcakes and Parent Link will provide playdough to make monsters.

Crowsnest Pass Fire/Rescue will have a booth to give out tips on how to safely trick-or-treat, while 40 Developmental Assets will help children make buttons to wear, Krissy says.

Crowsnest Community Library will have a story cave, where children will hear Halloweenish tales read by costumed staff and volunteers, says library manager Diane deLauw. This will have the benefit of promoting reading, Krissy says.The mad scientist booth will also help children build sensory skills, as the Early Childhood Coalition will provide mysterious things to touch.

The Coleman Lions will be serving free hotdogs while Black Rock Pizza donates 300 cupcakes, and children will be able to perform the Monster Mash.

You can have a hand, or claw, in dishing out spooky delights.

Community members, including older children, can call Krissy at 403-563-8352 to volunteer.

Volunteers can direct the indoor trick-or-treating, run the Monster Mash or offer help at the different stations. Participants might need a little help, given that the Spooktacular often draws 300 children.

Groups, businesses and other individuals can also help by donating money, prizes and time, and each will be recognized on the wall of fame.

Angel display donated to hospital

By Brad Quarin An angelic touch has been added to the Crowsnest Pass Health Centre, after local craftsman Frank Loseth paid a visit to the Blairmore hospital with a unique donation.

He delivered a heavenly display he made with little angels on bark, to adorn the waiting room in the centre.

Sure Glass in Pincher Creek donated the time to make the glass for the display, says Margaret Ann Woodward of the Crowsnest Pass Hospital Auxiliary.

She says the auxiliary paid for the glass itself, with cash from its bake sales and tuck shop.

Frank actually made the display two years ago, using bark from a 720-yearold Douglas fir tree obtained from a friend.

Recently, someone suggested it could be donated to a Calgary hospital, but Frank preferred that it go to the local hospital.

“I’m proud to have it here, because as far as I’m concerned, this is the best hospital in Canada, especially for a small town or medium-sized town,” he says.

He intended the work as “a conversation piece,” more so than a religious image.

Diane Nummi of the Crowsnest Pass Hospital Foundation appreciates the gift. “I love it. It’s really, really nice,” she says. “It’ll be a great conversation piece in the lobby as people are waiting.”

Nominations are open for Crowsnest Pass Chamber awards

By Brad Quarin Members of the Crowsnest Pass Chamber of Commerce or residents of the community may be able to think of a local business that deserves to be showcased and congratulated.

The Crowsnest Pass Business Awards will do that, with nominations being taken now.

Monday is the deadline to nominate for the business of the year, new business of the year and customer-service awards. The awards will be given at the chamber’s annual general meeting on Nov. 5.

Any member of the public can nominate a business, providing background and an explanation of why the business is worthy of recognition. Often, the chamber can learn from the public, says Cathy Ward, the chamber’s office manager.

Afterwards, a panel of chamber directors and possibly members will examine the nominations and select the recipients.

The business of the year will be a chamber member that mainly serves Crowsnest Pass and is involved in the community. The new business of the year will be a business in its first three years that has displayed growth and great customer service. The customer-service award recognizes a chamber member for excellent service.

All nominees should have a Crowsnest Pass business licence and shouldn’t have received a Business Award in the past two years.

The board will also consider who should receive the Community Spirit Award, a category introduced last year. The award goes to a volunteer who has given back to the chamber and the community.

Pincher Creek gets ’er done at Relay for Life

By Brad Quarin Get ’er Done was the name of the team that raised the most money for cancer research at Pincher Creek’s second Relay for Life, held in September.

That team name also reflects the attitude held by every team and individual who helped make the day a triumph. The local relay raised $29,000 and counting, all going to the Canadian Cancer Society.

“The spirit was certainly there,” says organizer Karen Andrew. There were 12 teams and 76 people registered for the event, who showed commitment and and willingness to help. “They were such good sports.”

Of the $29,000 raised at the relay, $3,940 came from Get ’er Done, a crew of nine people.

Their team leader was Maggie Olson, who was on the planning committee along with Karen.

Maggie says the team raised its cash mainly through personal donations, a few business donations and “lots of footwork.”

Get ’er Done also won for best costumes, with a Life Savers theme. The walkers wore the candy on their earrings and sun visors and around their necks.

“It was so cute,” Karen says.

However, Get ’er Done members decided to

give the prize of Celestial Sweets baking to their own favourites — the firefighters — who did the walk in full gear.

The firefighters couldn’t go very fast in full gear, but were cool to see, Karen says.

“It was so worth it to share it with them,” Maggie says.

The individual who raised the most money in Pincher Creek was Karen, who was a member of the Big Girl Panty Club team.

Karen brought in $2,075 by sending emails to her friends for help and sending pledge forms with her husband to northern Alberta.

She explains why she believes organizers did so well, saying, “It’s in our blood. When I did the breast cancer fundraiser, you’re always motivated to beat what you did last year.”

The oldest person to take on the Relay for Life was organizer Rosaleen Berger, who is 75. She walked with Get ’er Done.

The youngest person to join in was Ariana Marin, 4. She was there for a good portion of the afternoon, says grandma Leslie Claringbull.

Overall, Karen and Maggie consider Relay for Life a success despite windy conditions and an earlier cancer fundraiser this year, the Pinkest Little Town in the West. The attitudes were largely positive.

Peewee Mustangs With Coach Jeremy

By Jeremy Nelson I think the Pincher Creek Peewee Mustangs are better than any CFL team.

Let me explain a little. We played three games in seven days — that’s right, three games in seven days. I have never heard of a CFL team doing that!

We travelled to Coaldale, Calgary and Lethbridge. In previous games we were fairly well matched in size and number of players. Not in Coaldale — they had twice as many players and their size was somewhat larger. This was not a deterrent for us. We put on our game socks and hit the field.

As usual, the Mustangs performed to their best ability, running the plays as we have practised over and over again. We were outmatched by Coaldale’s skill.

Our plays that usually get five to six yards were getting two. Even our sweeps ended in about 10 yards. We had some players who were feeling under the weather, and some who had to sit out early due to minor injuries.

The combination of these factors resulted in our lack of success finding the end zone. I think the best play of this game was when our centre was able to carry the ball for a 20-plus-yard run. Boy, was he excited!

Next on our schedule was Calgary. This is an annual tradition that stems back many years. It is always against Claresholm, who graciously invite us every year.

We play at the home of the Calgary Stampeders, McMahon Stadium.

We showed up knowing what Claresholm had to offer and Claresholm knew what we had. We started the morning about an hour before the game started. In the change room it was just the players and coaches, no parents. The kids were excited for the game and the chatter that went on showed it.

When we got down to field level for warm-ups and to work on a few plays, there were a few Stampeders doing workouts. Some of the kids had a hard time focusing on what we were doing, but I was able to get them back on track.

We lost the coin toss but gained possession of the ball for the first play.

The plays went back and forth all game, with Claresholm the first to reach the end zone with those few Stampeders now watching our game. In the first half, Claresholm found the end zone twice and we found it once.

After a brief break and some pep talks from our coaches and one coaching alumnus, Tom Holoboff, we were back on the field. The peewees were charged and ready to go. With Claresholm finally knowing our biggest play, we had to change things up a bit. We did and found the end zone two more times, but unfortunately we had one of the touchdowns called back. Hey, it happens in football — look at the 2014 Grey Cup. No big deal.

In the end, the game was tied and we both came away winners. After the game we had to pose for pictures for all the proud family and friends. I want to thank all those who travelled to Calgary to watch on that Thanksgiving Monday.

Come one full week and we were in Lethbridge playing again. This time it was against Rams white. The Rams organization has three teams. We won the coin toss and the kids decided on offence. We had our drives up the middle down pat, gaining an average of five to six yards each time. Whether it was my running back or my fullback, it was always the same. This has become one of our main plays.

We even switched out our back field to allow some others to get time with the ball. It was always the same result. Very fulfilling for a coach to see that we can repetitively gain yards that way. At one time we marched from our 30-yard line to their 25-yard line by doing that same play, with a few in there to mix it up.

At this game we were missing some of our coaching staff, so I had to be coach and ref at the same time. Not much to refereeing at this age, just watch for face

Donna Jean Lounsbury 1958 - 2015

Donna Jean Lounsbury passed suddenly at her Lethbridge home Oct. 4, 2015, with her friend Shasta by her side. She joins her mom and close friend Vera, laughing together and watching over us all.

Born in Calgary, she was the first child of Robert (Bob) Cecil and Vera Jean Lounsbury, and big sister to Susan Dianne Baran and Robert Brock Lounsbury.

Donna had a deep love for her dogs, Gizmo and Shasta, but closest to her heart were her nieces and nephews: Darci Lounsbury (Heidi Germdrowner) and Mathew Philips; Danielle (Dani Banani), Lindsay (Boo) and Leah (Leah Beah) Lounsbury; and her great-nephew and niece William Philips (Sir William) and Grace Philips (Gracie Goose).

She was the best aunt they could ever have and a huge influence. She received great love and respect back from them through her life.

Donna had a long-term and close relationship with her sister-inlaw, Tracey. In her time, Donna touched many people and was cherished by so many friends. She was quick-witted and funny — gifts that served her well as a youth counsellor at Sifton House and as a legal-aid officer. On both career paths she gave back to humanity.

She often made mention of the dry humour of the Blackfoot people — something she embraced as she grew through life. She loved the outdoors, camping and hiking. Donna followed the family way of hunting briefly in her youth when she harvested a gopher with a .22.

The event so traumatized her that she broke with tradition and never hunted again.

Her favourite place was Vancouver Island, particularly the west coast and Long Beach. She tried to make at least one pilgrimage every year. She shared herself on many trips with her family to that magical place. A big piece of her will always be with us there, and we will all feel her presence in that wonderful place.

A celebration of her unique life was held at Pincher Creek United Church on Oct. 17, 2015, following a family graveside service.

Embrace other cultures with new friendship group

By Brad Quarin What if I told you that you could travel the world without leaving Main Street Pincher Creek?

A new group called Multicultural Friendship has formed in town, bringing together people from different backgrounds to share their cultures.

“I would say that this is about a healthy community, when we can all work together and learn from each other, and find ways we can support each other,” says founding member Joyce Sasse. “We hope we can have a lot of fun.”

The group had its first gathering a month ago, and a potluck is now planned for Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church. Everyone is welcome.

Joyce says she and a few others started the group following the arrival of diverse people in the community. “We haven’t had any means of being able to bring them together or to welcome them into the community,” she says. “That’s always been a concern of mine.”

Having lived overseas, she knows it can be challenging to become part of a foreign community. Adam Hong from Seoul, South Korea, is also a key organizer of the group.

In its first meeting, the group crafted a four-point philosophy, to provide friendship, help each other, share cultures and contribute to the community.

The meeting was a success, and the group already talked a bit about different customs.

It was held during Chuseok, the Korean harvest festival, so Korean members talked about what happens during the celebration. Everyone goes back to their family home for it, for traditional games and to greet elders.

Métis culture was also represented in the group, with Frances Riviere talking about the people’s history and the Red River Colony.

Frances commented afterwards that she hasn’t travelled much before, but felt she travelled far that night, Joyce says.

Next time, attendees can bring traditional foods and the potluck discussion may have a Halloween theme if other cultures have similar customs.

MUSTANGS, continued from page 14 masks and horse collars, so it was fairly easy. But it did take me away from behind the play.

Every time we tried to run a sweep, a Ram broke through the line and seemed to cause havoc on the play, so a lot of the time it didn’t turn out as planned. We had a really good game against them, and also found that we have some weaknesses, but we have a week to work on them and we will. We had some problems before and we fixed them in less time.

In the end, the only touchdowns that were scored were by the Rams, and only in the first half, and only twice.

So, now you see why I think we are better than any CFL team. It was a long week for us, as every game involved travel time. It will be nice to be at home for our next game, which also happens to be our last. It will be this Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Matthew Halton field. Please come down and cheer on the little guys one last time for this year.

Fundraiser proceeds will keep SPCA animals healthy

By Brad Quarin Some pet owners get a kick out of dressing up their dogs and cats, probably more so than the animals themselves. With Halloween approaching, there may be no better excuse for having a costumed kitty or a dog in disguise.

The Pincher Creek Humane Society/SPCA is helping pet owners prepare for the occasion with its fundraiser Costumes for Vaccines. People can pick up a costume and donate cash to help the shelter with its medical bills.

“What is really neat … [is] it allows people to involve pets in all aspects of their life,” says volunteer Simone Forget. Seeing a dog or cat dressed up can be a cool addition to a Halloween family portrait.

This is the first time the Pincher Creek SPCA has held this event. It stems from its partnership with PetSmart Lethbridge, which donates excess products to the shelters in Pincher Creek and Claresholm.

This time, the SPCA received Halloween-themed pet toys and some great costumes of all sizes, ranging in value from $5 to $40.

“We can’t thank PetSmart enough,” Simone says.

The SPCA considered how to distribute the goods in a way that would help out the shelter.

Toys such as squeaky and plush toys will be up for grabs. So will costumes allowing pets to become superheroes, Disney characters, witches and vampires.

SPCA staff and volunteers will have a table at Ranchland Mall this Wednesday and Thursday, from 12:30 to 8 p.m.

Money raised will go to the SPCA’s medical bills, which will cover vaccinations of animals in its care. Keeping diseases from spreading to other animals is vital, Simone says.

Medical bills also arise from checkups, dental care and spaying and neutering.

By Crowsnest Conservation BearSmart A quick survey of newspaper headlines from the past month alone reveals an array of bear issues across the country: Sudbury, Ont., Creates Nuisance Bear Committee After 2,000 Sightings; Calls About Problem Bears on the North Shore Hit Record Number; Human-Conditioned Black Bear Still at Large Following Attack on Elderly Woman.

We hear human-bear conflict terms like “nuisance bear,” “problem bear,” “food-conditioned” and “habituated” frequently in the media, but there is subtle information conveyed by those terms. Do you know the differences? For example, did you know that a food-conditioned bear is not necessarily habituated to people, and vice versa?

Some of these general terms and concepts are clarified below, recognizing that specific definitions may vary slightly between jurisdictions and management agencies. Specific definitions related to grizzly bears in Alberta can be found online in the provincial government’s Grizzly Bear Response Guide.

Nuisance: A bear whose presence is likely to cause some people to feel apprehensive, particularly if it remains in the area for a period of time.

The bear exhibits natural behaviours and does not appear to pose a threat to humans, pets or livestock.

Habituated: A bear that shows little overt reaction to, or avoidance of, people as a result of being repeatedly exposed to human stimuli without significant consequence. Such bears may frequent human high-use areas (such as residential areas and campgrounds), or feed on agricultural crops or roadside vegetation in close proximity to humans.

Food-conditioned: A bear that has learned to associate people or the smell of people, human activities, human-use areas, or food storage receptacles with human-related food.

Problem: A bear that has attacked or mauled without being provoked, is an immediate threat to pets or livestock, or otherwise threatens human safety.

Bear sighting: An observation when a bear was seemingly unaware of the person observing it, had

no observable stress-related response to the person during an interaction, or responded to the interaction by avoiding the person or leaving the area.

Bear occurrence: An incident that involved a human-bear conflict or episodes where bears caused property damage, obtained human-related food (including garbage, apples, birdseed), killed or attempted to kill livestock or pets, or were involved in vehicle collisions.

Bear sightings and occurrences should be reported to Fish and Wildlife during office hours at 403-562-3289 and after hours to the Report-aPoacher hotline at 1-800-642-3800. Your reports help track bear movements in Crowsnest Pass and help protect the bears and the community. Successful year wraps up for Turtle Mountain Riding Club

By Wendy Francis Turtle Mountain Riding Club held its annual awards banquet Sept. 27 at the Hillcrest Fish and Game Hall.

High-point winners this season were Derrick Toppin, Tiny Mite; Hailey Grove, junior; Sarah Kirby, intermediate; Diana Calder, senior (fifth year in a row); and Laci Barg, beginner.

High-point winners were awarded breast collars and Laci Barg received a halter with a leather bronc nose piece.

Tiny Mites Kiah Simpson, Mia Jensen, Londyn Freiheit and Rylee Stedman were also awarded prizes for their hard work and horsemanship skills for the 2015 season.

Juniors Danielle Hann, Morgan Dingreville, Zack Hann and Julie MacDonald were awarded gift certificates and cash prizes for all their efforts and sportsmanship displayed this year.

Intermediates Chelby Glen, Macey Jo Friel, Stacey Olivieri and Haylee Williams also collected gift certificates and cash prizes for their support and dedication to our club.

The Crowsnest Ag Society donated money towards our youth prizes.

The top-point seniors were also awarded cash prizes for their efforts this year. Hayley Stranquist,

Sacha Anderson, Kelsie Simpson, Suzanne Kirby and Tammy Friel were our winners. All other seniors were awarded an appreciation gift if they attended at least four gymkhanas throughout the season.

Tiny Mite Derrick Toppin was awarded the highest-high-point trophy, with 140 points, and the horse-and-rider trophy for riding his horse, Cash.

Volunteer-of-the-year trophy went to Tammy and Brad Glen, and Latisha Grove was voted sportsman of the year. The club would like to thank all our members and volunteers; we couldn’t do it without your support and dedication. Your efforts make our gymkhana club fun and enjoyable for all.

Another big thank you goes out to the Crowsnest Ag Society, Crockets Trading Company, High Country Western Wear, Frontier Western Shop, Backcountry Butchers, Three Rivers Rentals, Pat Dwyer, Tammy and Brad Glen for your donations and support. Your generosity helped to make another successful awards night and an enjoyable ending to a great year.
