EDITOR’S WELCOME Hey, Mountain View Key Club! My name is Annette Wong-Toi, and I am currently serving as your Publicity Chair for the 2016-17 term! I am so thrilled that you are currently reading the FIRST EVER Mountain View Key Club Newsletter. I hope that as the newsletter evolves, reading it will be a fun way to reminisce over the events that have taken place over the past two months, as well as acting as a documentation of all the memories and growth we make as a club. The following recap of the past two months’ activities includes our May DCM, interclub events, and the fundraisers we held during Eliminate Week! I am so looking

DCON 2016

THE NEW 2016-2017 CNH DISTRICT EXECUTIVE BOARD WAS ELECTED!

“Attending District Convention is the single best decision I've made in high school. I truly believe Governor: Kevin Myron(pictured) that without the experience of 3000 Treasurer: Shahrukh Shaikh passionate members that put others before them, my Secretary: Angel Lau Key Club journey would be entirely different. Our club is built off of service, but our club also wouldn't be this amazing without that connection between each and every Key Club member and seeing that on a large scale brings it to life. I know that I wouldn't be the person I am today without District Convention and all the CNH Bees.” -Mary Zhen (12)

Division Events 5/21: AL JULIAN TRACK MEET

PC: Palo Alto Key Club "Al Julian was a track meet where kids ranging from 516 competed in track events by their age groups at Palo Alto High School. Volunteers would be assigned to a particular track event and help out by setting up hurdles in the right place or making sure the high jump bar was at the correct height for example. The most memorable part of the service event was being able to witness talent at such a young age. I remember a boy that looked like he was in fourth or fifth grade that would be able to jump almost my height. This boy cleared the high jump bar at 4'10. It was amazing to see whole families, not just mothers and fathers, but grandparents and friends come out and support this young athletes in the pouring rain. Overall I'd gladly come again next year because I become more close to other members of different Key Clubs.“ -Tate Wilmoth (10)

ELIMINATE WEEK

5/2-6: BOTTLE FUNDRAISER While most clubs put coin drive boxes in classrooms all over campus, Key Club decided to put baby bottles instead! To support Project Eliminate, Mountain View Key Club is donating all the money collected in the bottles to the fight against Maternal Neonatal Tetanus (MNT). MNT is transmitted to mothers when the umbilical cord is cut with unsanitary instruments, and kills both the woman and her child. Project Eliminate uses a mere $1.80 to provide vaccines to third world countries to save a mother, her child, and all her future children. Learn more about Project Eliminate here.

13

5/2-5 & 5/9-12: TEASPOON FUNDRAISER

We were able to host a fundraiser at Teaspoon during Eliminate Week, and even a little after! Customers that mentioned “Key Club had 20% of their total purchase donated to Project Eliminate, and $100 were raised through this fundraiser! Thank you to all who came out!

PRESIDENT’S NOTE Aloha penguins! I am so excited to serve as your president for this term. I joined Key Club my sophomore year kinda skeptical, but I soon fell in love with the club after going to my first and favorite service event, the Art and Wine Festival. Key Club has changed my life so much by giving me a passion for community service and has introduced me to so many amazing and inspiring people. I learned that Key Club is more than just another club to put on your resume, but it is an ohana. For the term, I’m looking forward to making this a great term with everyone and reaching our LTG’s goals for the division! If you ever have anything, Key Club related or not, feel free to just message me. Hope to see you all during our summer events! -Clarissa Pham President 2016-2017
