EDITOR’S WELCOME What’s up, Mountain View Key Club? Another two months means another club newsletter! So many exciting events – including Art & Wine, Region Training Conference, and Fall Rally North – have all taken place in such a short amount of time. Hopefully, you all had a blast attending events like these! Here’s a recap of what happened over the past few months. Waddling in Service, Annette Wong-Toi Publicity Chair 2016-2017

PRESIDENT’S NOTE OMG, I can’t believe half of the term has already passed. I am so proud of all the accomplishments our club has achieved and to see so many new faces at the meetings and service events. Never could I have expected to see that our club has already completed 750+ hours of community service — already more hours than what we had after 75% of the term last year. I hope to keep this momentum going for the rest of the year and to see all of you grow in your commitment and passion for key club. We have so many more events planned for the rest of the year, so even if you have not attended an event yet, there are so many possibilities for you. Your dedication is truly inspiring, and I cannot express how honored I am to serve as this amazing club’s president. I fell in love with key club not only because of all the service opportunities, but also because of the amazing people I have met over these last 3 years. I hope that each of you will find your “Key Club moment” and am so glad that I can be a part of your Key Club experience. I cannot wait to see what else our club can accomplish in the rest of this term! Waddling in Service, Clarissa Pham President 2016-2017

PAST EVENTS 9/10-11: Art & Wine Festival with Mountain View Kiwanis

"I really enjoyed working with my fellow school mates outside of school and meeting new people. Everyone, including the customers, were very nice and it was fun hearing about other people's lives. It may seem like a long shift, but when you're there, time just flies. For me, I did not really want to leave when my shift ended. We also got a ton of free food so that was awesome (by the way the corn is the best). I would totally recommend other members participating in this event.“ Stephanie Evanson, Freshman

PAST EVENTS 9/16: Palo Alto Moonlight Run

with Palo Alto and Gunn Key Club

“The Palo Alto Moonlight Run was an event where we helped direct runners towards their goal and coordinate traffic. Not only was it interesting to see the moonrise, but it was truly inspirational seeing the runners so focused on their goal of running 5k or 10k. Elvin Hsieh, Senior (pictured above)

9/24: Hope’s Corner

“It was a very gratifying experience to help families that have a lower income while being in a friendly environment where everyone is passionate about service.” Cynthia Radja, Sophomore

8

PAST EVENTS 10/6, 10/7, 10/21: Football Snack Shack

“Serving at the snack shack was such a fun experience! Even through the massive amounts of nacho cheese.” Marco Torres, Sophomore

9

10/23: Halloween Goodie Bag Packing Key Clubbers prepared goodie bags for a Halloween Fair.

“It was fun getting into the Halloween Spirit!” Rachel Soetarman, Sophomore

10/30: Blossom Halloween Carnival

“The event was very enjoyable. We managed booths at a Halloween carnival for kids and their parents! It was fun seeing the kids have fun because of our actions!” Howard Wang, Junior

Region Training Conference Region Training Conference taught us a ton about being a leader in Key Club. There were lots of workshops on how to contribute to your club, and we learned how to be a more effective officer, leader and member. RTC is also a great opportunity to meet Key Clubbers from Regions 9 and 17 “Through RTC, I was able to meet new people from various divisions of Key Club and learn more about how the club was run behind the scenes. Everyone who attended was extremely open each other people were forced to work with complete strangers in order to improve leadership skills. I also discovered new sides to the people from our own club that I didn't know existed.” Austin Pan, Junior Tweet tweet all the way from D2! "RTC has been a fun experience, getting to meet people for all over the Bay Area. Being able to learn and gain experience from so many Key Clubbers has been a ride itself. Key Club has truly changed me from a person who was once in a bubble to an outgoing person who enjoys meeting new people.” Kevin Wu, Division 2 Member Recognition Coordinator

12

Fall Rally North Key Clubbers from the divisions in the northern California-NevadaHawaii District came together at Fall Rally North to celebrate the funds that we’ve raised for the Pediatric Trauma Program since the beginning of our term in April. While the rally is fun, it’s being held to bring attention to PTP overall.

“This was my first FRN and it was definitely a memorable experience for me. I met so many kind and caring people who are passionate about key club and it made me want to become more involved.” Eryka Casey, Junior

13

"FRN was such a great experience that made me meet others who also share the same passion to help others. And to also have fun making new friends with people who are so energetic and so inspiring.“ Barbara Beetlestone, Sophomore
