“You can be yourself here.”
This was the response Brigid Kemmerer ’96 received from a senior Sailor at her freshman orientation when she asked if students could wear make up to school. At the February 15 Alumnae Association’s Galentine’s Open House, guest speaker and New York Times Bestselling Author Brigid Kemmerer recalled how these words have come to mind again and again when faced with opportunities and challenges. Brigid also recounted the times that women have supported and encouraged her personally and in her career. Sailors supporting Sailors, whether after a difficult exam or at a student talent show, is a hallmark of MDSA embodied by our alumnae.
Alumnae Association President Megan McCawley ’10 welcomed approximately 100 alumnae spanning over sixty graduation years to the Galentine’s Open House. While enjoying delicious food and specialty cocktails, the alumnae celebrated Sailor Sisterhood. Meg was supported by her active Executive Board, including Colleen McKenna Walton ’07, and dedicated volunteers. Sisterhood was the highlight of the evening with catching up, reminiscing, and a school tour including the A-side fourth floor, where some alumnae took the opportunity to leave a mark! The alumnae also encouraged the Class of 2023 by writing messages on a banner that was displayed at the 100 days until graduation celebration.
The Alumnae Association is a diverse group of alumnae from many generations who enjoy working together to support student activities and scholarships.
