Providing a forum for philosophers The Mount’s Catholic and Dominican Institute (CDI) promotes the College’s Dominican heritage and charism of study and service. The Institute acknowledges different religious traditions as essential to the College’s intellectual and spiritual life. CARD Conference 2012 Keynote speaker Jeffrey Arnett, PhD, addressed the 2012 conference’s theme: “Constants and Challenges: Emerging Adulthood.”
CDI hosts a three-day philosophy workshop each summer that attracts scholars from Europe, South America and across the U.S.
Sharing research, making literacy a primary focus The Collaborative for Equity in Literacy Learning (CELL) started in the Mount’s Division of Education. CELL offers services to parents and teachers of students in pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade, and to researchers in reading, writing, and instruction. CELL supports teachers with resources and information about best practices in literacy instruction and educates parents about the importance of literacy in early reading. CELL provides researchers access to information about current scholarship in literacy and offers students opportunities to conduct practical research.
Above, Literacy conferences have been held at the Mount for 20 years. Right, Mount education students work with young readers at a local community center as part of the CELL campaign.
