Vive en el norte de Italia, país donde nació, pero poco importa el lugar o la época en la que viva la artista y diseñadora que os presentamos aquí. Y es que Elena Cunene Zanotti se encuentra más cómoda en un mundo pasado que gracias a diseñadores/as como ella está volviendo con más esplendor si cabe. Ella resucita para nosotros a través de su arte, ya sea con la fotografía o la ilustración o bien con el diseño de sus preciosas joyas y sombreros, un universo fascinante donde bellas doncellas pasean de la mano enguantada de elegantes caballeros, protegiendo su rostro del sol con bonitas sombrillas de seda. Un universo de salones de té, donde el tiempo se ha detenido entre alegres tertulias e inconfesables secretos.

Escenas de aire victoriano por las que se ha sentido cautivada desde siempre. Licenciada en Psicología, ha encontrado su propio método antidepresivo en el diseño de hermosos complementos para gente diferente, liberando de vez en cuando a su alter-ego, la inmensamente creativa CUNENE, a quien imaginamos encerrada en su taller durante interminables horas, poniendo minucioso cuidado en cada detalle, engarzando cada botoncito, pluma o encaje...Y es que en su trabajo diario es buena, pero en sus ratos libres, cuando deja que la inspiración artística que lleva dentro se manifieste a través de sus manos, es aún mejor. Lo de la fotografía dice que es mera afición, pero lo cierto es que se le da tan bien que nos cuesta no verla a la altura de cualquier profesional de la imagen. Lo de los sombreros y las joyas es algo más manual, más artesano. Los primeros en especial, grandes protagonistas en este reportaje, son piezas únicas, tan delicadas y hermosas que cuesta resistirse. Si no es en la cabeza, estos sombreros podrían incluso lucirse en el mueble del salón!

Para sus primeras creaciones se inspiró en la moda del siglo XIX, pero más tarde ha ido ampliando sus colecciones, introduciendo también elementos de las décadas que van de los años 20 a los 40, permitiéndole esto el usar colores más brillantes en los tejidos y optar por una mayor variedad de aplicaciones, como pedrería, flores, plumas...Aunque nuestros favoritos hemos de admitir, son aquellos donde ha dejado volar más su fantasía, colocándoles como toque final alguna aplicación creada artesanalmente por ella, ya sea un corazón ensangrentado, un caramelo o una romántica mariposa. Cada uno cuenta su historia, tiene su concepto, y lo mejor de todo es que algo típico de la Época Victoriana es reinventado moderna y exquisitamente por CUNENE de una forma que no deja lugar a ninguna duda: Si sus diseños pudieran viajar en el tiempo a aquellos años, resultarían la sensación, lo más revolucionario y excéntrico y como tal, admirado y ambicionado por todos y sobre todo por las grandes esferas, siempre a la última.

Hoy sin embargo, y por suerte, la buena moda está al alcance de mucha más gente, y con la gran ventana que ha abierto Internet, nuestra genial artista ha visto crecer la demanda a través de su página web rápidamente, llevándole a crear una línea de sombreros especialmente diseñados para artistas de Nuevo Burlesco, aunque hay que decir que además de para mujeres, también diseña ocasionalmente para clientes del género masculino. Si quieres estar a la última, ponerle el broche de oro a tu atuendo de fiesta o ceremonia o simplemente sorprender a alguien con un bonito detalle, uno de sus mini-sombreros puede ser la elección ideal, definitivamente.

Con unas cuantas bellas palabras, Elena With a few of beautiful words Elena desse describe a sí misma así: cribes herself thus: “Soy una apasionada fotógrafa y diseñadora de joyas y sombreros. Soy una persona perezosa y soñadora. Mis sueños se basan en épocas antiguas y mi arte es mi antídoto contra la depresión.

Mis manos crean lo que mi cerebro les ordena, con demasiados fallos aunque a veces salen algunas cosas que me gustan. Y estoy dividida en dos: Elena vive, come, besa y duerme, está hecha de carne y hueso, sangre y células, es torpe y adicta al chocolate. Es psicóloga, se hará vieja y morirá.

“I’m a photographer of passion and a jewels and a hat designer. I am a lazy and dreaming person. My dreams are old-fashioned and my art is my antidepressant antidote. My hands create what my mind orders, with too many faults, but sometimes there are somethings that I like. And I am split in two: Elena lives, eats, kisses and sleeps, is flesh and bones, blood and cells, is clumsy and chocolate addicted. She is a psychologist, she’ll grow old and will die.

She lives in the north of Italy, her birthplace, but it doesn’t really matter in what place or time the artist and designer we present here lives. Elena Cunene Zanotti finds herself definitely more comfortable in an ancient world that designers like her are bringing back to us with even more splendour than then. She’s reviving for us thanks to her art, no matter if it’s with photography, illustration or with her beautifully made jewels or hats, a fascinating universe where gorgeous damsels have walks holding gloved hands of elegant gentlemen and protecting their faces from the Sun with beautiful silk umbrellas. A universe of tea salons, where time seems to have stopped between happy gatherings and unmentionable secrets. Scenes with a Victorian air she has always felt attracted by. Licensed in Psychology, she’s found her own anti-depressant in designing gorgeous accessories for different people, liberating at the same time her alter-ego, the immensely creative CUNENE, who we can imagine enclosed in her workshop during endless hours, putting an extreme care in each detail, setting each little button, feather or lace...Because she might be good at her daily job but in her spare time, when she lets her artistic inspiration manifest itself through her hands, she’s even better.

Photography is just a mere hobby she says, but seeing her work we can just compare her to any great professional of the sector. The hats and jewels are something more manual, more handcrafted. Especially the hats, are the big protagonists in this report, unique items, so delicate and precious that they are simply irresistible. If not worn on your head, they could be perfectly decorating any shelve in your living room!

Each hat tells a story, it has a concept behind, and the best of all is that something typical from the Victorian Era is reinvented by CUNENE in such an exquisite way and with such a modern twist, that there’s no doubt that if her designs could travel in time to those years, they would be the sensation, the most revolutionary and eccentric and as such, admired and coveted by everyone and specially by those from the highest society circles, always up to the minute.

Nevertheless, and luckily, the good fashion is nowadays accessible to many more people, and thanks to the huge window that Internet has opened, our great artist has seen how the orders in her website are increasing rapidly everyday. For this reason and with the purpose of fulfilling the wishes of a more ample market, she’s now designed a line specially created for New Burlesque artists, even though we must say that she eventually makes hats for men as well. If you want to wear the latest, to cap your outfit for that special party or ceremony or to surprise someone with a very nice detail, one of her mini-hats can be the perfect choice, definitely.

For her first creations she got inspiration from the fashion of the 19th century but later she increased her collections by introducing also elements from the decades that go from the 20s to the 40s. This allowed to her using fabrics with brighter colours and opting for more variety of applications such as encrusted crystals or fake precious stones, plastic or cloth flowers, feathers...Even though we have to admit that our favourites are those she has put more fantasy in, giving them a final touch with some handcrafted object, wheter if it’s a bloody heart, a candy or a romantic butterfly.

Afincado en Madrid pero cubano de nacimiento, ALAIN PERDOMO está ganando terreno en el cada día más competitivo sector de la fotografía, y sobre todo de esa que implica altas dosis de creatividad y muchas horas de edición digital, consiguiendo que lo que es ya de por sí y en crudo, una buena imagen, se transforme finalmente en un sueño, una fantasía, un instante mágico que cuenta una historia, sugiriendo un cierto contexto pero también dejando que el espectador imagine por sí mismo y saque sus propias conclusiones. Como casi todo el arte, es en la visión subjetiva donde reside muchas veces el mayor atractivo de ciertas obras. Y eso es lo que básicamente transmiten muchas de sus fotografías.

Dedicado en cuerpo y alma a su trabajo, tenía que ser ésta y no otra su ocupación, pues siendo muy pequeño se sentía embrujado ya por el proceso químico y casi de alquimista de la fotografía de antaño, esa que hoy día ya casi nadie practica. A los 7 años ya tenía en sus manos una Hasselblad y a los 13, su pasatiempo favorito era estar rodeado de fotógrafos profesionales, que le pudieran desvelar cuanto más mejor sobre esa materia que tanto le fascinaba. A los 15 se matriculó en la Escuela

Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana, su ciudad natal, donde se licenció con excelentes cualificaciones, aunque fue en el 2004 cuando decidió mudarse a la capital de España con la intención de ampliar sus estudios a la vez que hacerse un hueco en el campo de la publicidad y por supuesto en la fotografía de tintes góticos, que es sin duda a día de hoy su gran especialidad, aunque actualmente está también muy metido en proyectos más relacionados con moda y publicidad en general.

En Madrid consiguió un master en fotografía internacional, para la Escuela EFTI, donde le entregaron un Título Oficial de Experto en Iluminación.

Su gran conocimiento, no solo en los métodos fotográficos tradicionales sino también en el retoque digital, esencial hoy día y muy especialmente en un tipo de fotografía, la gótica, más ambientada en escenas de cierto carácter onírico y en fantasías oscuras pero repletas al mismo tiempo de una gran belleza expresiva, le ha llevado a impartir talleres de fotografía por toda la península, que resultan siempre un éxito, no solo por el contenido didáctico de los mismos sino también por la agradable experiencia que supone tener como

profesor a alguien que derrocha simpatía y dinamismo, cualidades de su naturaleza que atraen sin duda a una gran convocatoria ávida por aprender de la mano de un experto los trucos intrínsecos del maravilloso arte de la imagen. Habiendo ocupado varias de las portadas de la revista especializada FotoDigital, divide su tiempo entre trabajos de autor y encargos para conocidas revistas de moda, sin dejar todavía hoy de aprender y perfeccionarse con cada última técnica o herramienta.

Absolutamente concentrado en dos libros que no tardarán en salir al mercado, y de los cuales nos adelanta sus títulos: “Mirror” y “Alma”, también acaba de dar rienda suelta a su faceta de cineasta, con un cortometraje titulado “Deuville” y un largometraje de proyección internacional del que pronto os adelantaremos más información. Habiendo trabajado como director de fotografía en múltiples rodajes, que acabase realizando sus propios proyectos en el cine no era de extrañar, y aunque no dejará jamás la fotografía de lado, quisiera llegar a tener un currículo también extenso y variado en el campo del séptimo arte. Y seguro que lo consigue.

Settled in Madrid but native from Cuba, ALAIN PERDOMO is gaining in this competitive sector of photography every day more and more, and especially when it requires high doses of creativity and many hours of editing the image digitally, until getting that a raw image which is already good by itself it’s finally transformed into a dream, a fantasy, a magical instant that tells a story, suggesting a certain context but also letting the spectator’s imagination draw his or her own conclusions.

As it happens with most art, the subjective vision is where the biggest attractive of certain works resides and this is what is basically transmitted in many of his photographs. Putting all his heart and soul into his job, it had to be this and no other thing that he would end up doing. Being very little he already felt captivated by the chemical and likely alchemy process of the yesteryear photography, that very

few practice today. Being just 7 he already had in his hands a Hasselblad and with 13 his favourite pastime was to be surrounded by professional photographers who could reveal him as much as possible about that subject that fascinated him so much.

When he was 15 he graduated at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana (National School of Fine Arts of La Habana), his birthplace, where he was licensed with excellent qualifications, even though it was in 2004 when he decided to move to the capital of Spain (Madrid) with the intention of increasing his studies as well as getting a gap within the field of publicity and of course of the photography with gothic tones, which is today with no doubt his great speciality, even though he’s currently getting very focused also on projects more related to fashion and advertising in general.

He archieved in Madrid a Master in International Photography to be able to apply for the EFTI School, where he was given an Official Certificate as Lightning Expert.

His ample knowledge, not just about the traditional photographic methods but also about digital retouch, essential today and specially in this type of photography he does, the gothic, which often recreates atmospheres based on a certain dreamy character as well as on obscure yet full of great expresive beauty fantasies, has brought him the chance to offer photography workshops all over the Spanish peninsula, ending always in a total success, not just because of the didactic content of them but also for the pleasurable experience of having as teacher someone who radiates so much friendliness and dynamisn, qualities of his nature that attract no doubt a big assembly, hungry for learning first hand the intrinsic tricks of the wonderful world of image. Having been featured in several covers of

the specialized magazine FotoDigital, he divides his time between his signature photography and the commissioned works he does for known fashion magazines, without forgetting that even today he still wants and needs to learn and perfection himself more with each of the latest tools or technologies coming out in the market.

Absolutely focused in two books that will soon see the light and which he advances their titles: “Mirror” and “Alma” (Soul), he has just given free rein to his filmmaker facet, with a short film named “Deuville” and a full-lengh film of international projection which we will be talking about very soon. Having worked as Director of Photography in many shootings, it’s not strange that he ended up realizing his own movie projects and even though it’s true that he will never put photography aside, he would really like to have also an extensive and varied curriculum in the field of cinema. And we are sure he’ll get it.

PRUDEN se siente afortunado de poder trabajar en lo que más le apasiona. No en vano, es un luchador nato, alguien con ambiciones que no duda en trabajar duro para conseguir alcanzar sus metas profesionales. Hoy por hoy alterna su trabajo como cámara de TV con el de DJ/Productos aunque reconoce que esto último es lo que más le llena, puesto que es un amante insaciable de la música en general y en especial de la buena Electrónica.

Afincado en Madrid pero gaditano de nacimiento, rebosa simpatía y salero como buen andaluz que es. Olé, olé y olé! Aunque ha sido más bien fuera de su lugar de origen donde sin duda ha encontrado la gran oportunidad de trabajar como productor musical para varios sellos discográficos, (Funn&Soul y Delicious Recordings en Madrid o Discotech en Liverpool, Inglaterra, por citar algunos), no duda en escaparse siempre que puede a las paradisíacas playas de su Cádiz, donde puede practicar el surf, uno de sus deportes favoritos.

Siempre en buena forma, acudir al gimnasio de vez en cuando es algo que siempre tiene en cuenta aunque sin obsesionarse, porque encontrar la justa medida para todas las cosas es sin duda uno de sus secretos mejor guardados para una buena vida. Él sabe muy bien cómo repartir el tiempo para disfrutarlo al máximo, ya sea compartiendo una buena sesión DJ en su estudio con sus amigos o viajando por el mundo y enriqueciéndose de experiencias siempre que puede permitírselo, sin olvidarse claro está, de tatuarse también de vez en cuando por aquello de no perder la costumbre. Nos cuenta que no se tatua por seguir ninguna moda ni mucho menos. De hecho su primer tatuaje se lo realizó con 16 añitos. A sus 30, ya luce una vistosa colección de 12 tatuajes en su piel, la verdad, todos bastante originales y bonitos. Fascinado desde muy pequeño con los robots y mutantes, se ha hecho tatuar un alienígena con cuerpo de pulpo dentro de su platillo volante y un hipopótamo robótico que va montado en un cohete. Como dice él mismo, estas son “fricadas” a las que no puede resistirse. El último tatuaje que muy pronto estará terminado, es un tiburón bicéfalo en su espalda, con asombroso detalle y que representa ambos géneros, el femenino y el masculino. Su tatuador-gurú es DENO del estudio CIRCUS en Madrid, un increíble artista que es también grafitero y quien aparte de ser uno de sus mejores amigos, ha realizado la mayor parte de dibujos que luce en su piel. Not in vain he’s a natural born fighter, someone with ambitions and who doesn’t hesitate working hard to reach his professional targets. At the moment he’s combining his work as TV cameraman with his DJ/Producer facet recognizing this is more fulfilling though, since he’s an insatiable music lover and specially when it comes to talk about his favourite genre, the Electronic. Settled in Madrid but born in Cádiz, he oozes sympathy and wittiness as the good Andalusian he is. Olé, olé and olé! Although it has been mostly out of his birthplace where he’s got the chance to work as a music producer for several labels (Funn&Soul and Delicious Recordings in Madrid or Discotech in Liverpool, England, to name a few), he has no doubt about where to go for surfing, one of his favourite sports, and that place is located exactly in the heavenly beaches of his loved Cádiz.

Always in a good shape, he likes to go to the gym from time to time but without getting obsessed, because to find the right measure for all the things is in fact one of his well kept secrets for a good life. He knows very well how to distribute the time to enjoy and make the most of it, wheter if he’s sharing a good DJ set at his studio with his friends or travelling around the world and living enriching experiences everytime he has the chance, without forgetting of course to get tattooed also from time to time, just for a change... He tells us that he doesn’t wear tattoos because he follows any fashion trend at all. In fact he had his first tattoo done when he was 16.

At his 30, he shows off an eye-catchy collection of 12 pretty nice and original tattoos. Fascinated since he was a child with robots and mutants, he’s been tattooed with an alien with the body of an octopus inside of his flying saucer and a robotic hippopotamus in a rocket. As he says, this is the kind of freakie stuff he just cannot resist. The last tattoo about to be finished is a two-headed shark on his back, with amazing detail and representing both sexes male and female. His guru-tattooist is DENO, an awesome artist who’s also a grafitter and who besides being one of his best friends, has done most of his tattoos at CIRCUS, his studio in Madrid. Además está ahora más de moda que nunca (que a Hollywood no le pasa desapercibido todo el rollito cincuentero reinventado que estamos viendo hasta en la sopa), así que se ha relanzado en formato Bluray, en edición especial para coleccionistas. También anda por ahí una edición de lujo en DVD que salió al mercado con motivo del 20 aniversario y otras tantas cositas que puedes adquirir, si es que eres fan (como nosotros) a través de la red.

Here there’s a girl who arrives accompanied by her family to a summer resort expecting to spend the holidays which aren’t really promising, but she will suddenly meet the handsome and rebel dance instructor and entertainer at the hotel, falling at his feet. She will win his heart and will experience with him not just a passionate love that with all the probabilities will become a long-life relationship, but also some compromised situations that will make her mature. Playing the main

roles we have Jennifer Grey and the talented and handsome Patrick Swayze (sadly died in 2009 after an arduous fight against a pancreas cancer) who showed off his amazing body as well as his talent as a dancer and as a singer when he sung the theme “She’s like the wind” that he also co-produced and which was inspired on his long-life wife, the actress Lisa Niemi. Set in the 60s but with many winks to the 50s, specially because of the wardrobe of the dancers in the movie and also the soundtrack. With these elements the film already had millions of spectators in the pocket.

A memorable moment was, it is and forever will be the final scene when the famous choreography takes place to the Oscar winning song “The time of my life” which gives you everytime gooseflesh and puts you easily the tears in your eyes. This movie didn’t need more awards from The Academy to have its own theatre musical. Besides, it’s now reviving all its greatness after being relaunched in Bluray format, in a special collector’s edition. There’s also another deluxe edition on DVD that it came on to the market for the 20th anniversary, and some other recommended merchandising that you’ll find available to purchase, in case you’re a fan (as we are) via the Internet.

80s CINEMA Part 2 So Romantic!

Hollywood, poderosa arma de manipulación mental, ha glamurizado la imagen del soldado hasta hacerte pensar que “qué genial y honorable es luchar por tu patria y morir por ella si se tercia! Y sobre todo si esa patria es Norte América...Eh?” Y es que aparte de la historia de amor, que es el gancho, “An Officer and a Gentleman” 1982 (Oficial y Caballero), dirigida por Taylor Hackford, y “Top Gun” 1986, dirigida por Tony Scott, son dos películas que teníamos que mencionar por fuerza.

La primera, con un guión con el que tampoco es que se hayan exprimido los sesos, nos cuenta la historia de un cadete (Richard Gere) un tanto desorientado en la vida que supera las duras pruebas de aptitud obligatorias para convertirse en piloto, madurando como hombre en el transcurso de los meses y apreciando finalmente el amor verdadero de una chica trabajadora (Debra Winger) que se ha acercado a él por quien es realmente y no por su título militar. Final feliz y poco más que destacar, aparte del tema musical “Up where we belong” que alcanzó el número 1 de las listas americanas. El Sr. Gere se convertiría hasta el día de hoy en todo un sex-symbol del cine.

Respecto a “Top Gun”, es otra americanada que nos tragamos encantados igual que si fuera un menú de fast-food, por mucha mierda que lleve dentro. Dirigida por Tony Scott también tiene como protagonista a un valiente y buenorro aviador (Tom Cruise) y que cómo no, se liga a la chica guapa que en este caso es nada menos que su instructora (Kelly McGillis). El morbo sexual está servido. Quitando la parafernalia patriótica de banderitas y demás (al parecer cláusula obligatoria en cualquier contrato cinematográfico en Hollywood), es innegable que las escenas aéreas son espectaculares, y hacen de este filme un clásico del género de acción, y el tema “Take my breath away” (Déjame sin aliento) de Berlin, que ganó un Oscar, es sin duda una de las mejores baladas del cine. La escena en la que alumno e instructora se lo acaban montando, y en la que Cruise da toda una lección de besos con lengua, es una de las más calientes del cine. Con un presupuesto de 15 millones de dólares, recaudó la friolera de casi 354! La película puso de moda las chaquetas “de aviador” y lo admito, hasta yo volví loca a mi madre buscando una que se pareciera al máximo a la que lucía Maverick (Tom Cruise). Finalmente me compró la dichosa chaquetita, sí, con todas sus insignias de rigor.

Over the months whilst all this takes place, he will mature as a man, appreciating finally the true love of a working girl (Debra Winger) who has approached to him for who he really is and not because of his military certificate. A happy end and nothing else really outstanding, except maybe for the song “Up where we belong” included in the soundtrack and that reached the number 1 in the American charts. Mr. Gere would become the sex-symbol of the cinema he still is nowadays.

Regarding “Top Gun”, here we have another typical token of the American vanity that we swallow happily as we do with a fast-food menu, no matter how much shit there’s in! This movie has also as a protagonist a brave hunk aviator (Tom Cruise) who of course will make it out with nothing less than his instructor (Kelly McGillis). The sexual morbid fascination it’s served.

Getting away from all the patriotic paraphernalia of flags and the like (it seems to be that there must be a clause in each single movie contract made by Hollywood that forces you to include the flag or the movie would be incomplete otherwise), we cannot deny that the aerial scenes are spectacular, making this film a classic of the action genre, and the musical theme “Take my breath away” by Berlin, which won an Oscar is without any doubt one of the best ballads in cinema history. The scene where the student and the instructor end up together in bed and where Cruise gives a great lesson of tongue-kissing, is one of the hottest in cinema. With a 15 Mill USD budget, the total revenue was about 354 Mill! La mujer que os presentamos en esta edición es una de esas estrellas que más que brillar deslumbran. Kandy K posee no solo belleza física sino también una personalidad fuerte y marcada, propia de alguien que no se anda con chiquitas, que sabe lo que quiere y va sin dudarlo a por ello. Con una actitud desafiante y segura, posa ante la cámara como una auténtica diva y es que maneras no le faltan.

Aunque si bien estar en este mundillo le facilitó muchísimos contactos, fue trabajando como maquilladora (¿acaso pensabas que esta chica solo posa?) como se sintió atraída por la cámara. Estar tatuada también le ha brindado la oportunidad de aparecer en la portada e interior de la publicación especializada Tattoo Vixens o en la popular BIZARRE Magazine. Asidua en los carteles de importantes convenciones de tatuaje, aparte de aportar su arrolladora imagen, tiene ya confirmados en su agenda dos eventos en los que trabajará como presentadora. Le encanta la idea de estar en el escenario entreteniendo al público y participando de una forma más directa en todo lo que es un evento, y de hecho esta es una dirección que esperaba que algún día tomase su carrera...Y bueno, todo llega.

Así que ni corta ni perezosa salió en busca del sueño americano hace ahora unos tres años y medio. Y no se arrepiente lo más mínimo. Su carrera recibió enseguida el impulso que deseaba. Podríamos decir que ha encontrado finalmente su lugar, aunque visita su tierra natal de vez en cuando, ya sea para encontrarse con amigos y familiares así como para trabajar con grandes fotógrafos de la escena inglesa o en importantes eventos.

Pero mucho antes de haberse convertido en el personaje popular que es hoy día en Internet, yo la había descubierto por la red, buscando modelos para inspirarme yo misma, y debo decir que su imagen me fascinó, sobre todo por su capacidad camaleónica y el colorido que acostumbra a lucir en sus estilismos y en su pelo.

Seguramente, y aunque no fueras modelo, tu pareja y tu pequeño te verían como la gran diosa de su universo, pero es bueno que tengas inquietudes y que las satisfagas. Siempre es algo sublime ver a una mujer bella e inteligente realizada. The woman we introduce to you on these pages is one of those stars that more than shinning, we can say that she dazzles. Kandy K doesn’t just own physical beauty but also a strong and marked personality, peculiar to someone who doesn’t beat about the bush, knowing exactly what she wants and going straight for it without doubting she’ll get it. With a defiant and self-confident attitude, she poses in front of the camera like an authentic diva and to be honest, she does it really well.

A British national, she worked for some time at the tattoo studio Modern Body Art, in Birmingham, piercing people. It was here where she discovered her love for tattoos and it was here that she learned all she knows today about this matter, besides leaving the job with most of the tattoos wears on her skin. The tattoo world brought her many contacts, but it was working as a make-up artist (did you think she was just a model?!) that she felt attracted by the camera. Being tattooed has also given her great opportunities like to be featured in the cover and inside of the specialized publication Tattoo Vixens or in the popular BIZARRE Magazine.

A must in the line-up of important tattoo conventions, apart from contributing with her spectacular image, she’s got now in her agenda two confirmed events where she will be working also as a hostess. She loves the idea of being on stage, entertaining the audience and being a more active part of the whole thing that makes a big event possible, and this is in fact the direction she expected her career to take one day...And see, finally, it all came together.

But long time before becoming the popular personage she is today in Internet, I had already discovered her while looking for models that would inspire myself, and I must say that her image fascinated me, especially because of her chameleon capabilities and all the colourful display she uses

to show in her fashion style and in her hair. Passionate with corsetry, latex and the avant-garde designs that contrast with her daily mom-look, she’s spent quite a long time working at important fashion shops, such as Vivienne Westwood and Agent Provocateur in UK and at Betsey Johnson in USA, where she’s actually working today.

England gave her the first opportunities but as she tells us herself, the talent in USA is unlimited and the scene although big, it also gets very accessible in a certain moment, everybody knows everybody and the working atmosphere is very friendly and very professional. So being the adventurous person that she is, three years ago she left her country pursuing the American Dream and she doesn’t regret it at all. Her career received the impulse she wanted. We could say that she has finally found her place, even though she travels from time to time to her birthplace to meet some friends and family as well as working with some great photographers of the English scene or to take part at important events.

Regarding life in general, she feels grateful for what she has found in her path. Shortly after crossing the ocean to fulfil her dreams, she met her better half, the man who made her mother of a precious child named Ollie and who’s now two years old.

These two, her loved ones, give her even more inspiration to go on with her modelling job, evolving until the day they will feel so proud of having this so modern and funny wife and mom at home, who has known how to fight for her dreams, reaching exactly the place where she was meant to be. For sure, and even if you weren’t the excellent model you are, your partner and your little one would see you as the one and only goddess in their universe, but it’s always good to have interests and to be able to satisfy them. It’s always something noble to see a gorgeous and intelligent woman realized.

Texto por Sugar Heels Todo el que accede por vez primera a Barcelona por su extremo sur-oeste, no puede evitar sentir un escalofrío, y el que sea menos susceptible al tema de la muerte siente como mínimo curiosidad, al contemplar los miles de nichos que cubren Montjuïc (Monte de los Judíos), y cuyos cristales parecen escupirte en los días más soleados con cegadores reflejos, cuán breve la vida puede ser. Diviértete todo lo que quieras y más en esta bonita ciudad mediterránea, sí, pero no olvides nunca que con tus huesos (si es que no eres incinerado) en un lugar como este has de dar.

Inaugurado en 1883 ante la necesidad de ofrecer sepultura a una población que crecía constante y rápidamente, el espacio bendecido católicamente ofrece también descanso para protestantes y judíos, algo bastante innovador en la época. (¡Como si eso importase después de muertos!) En la ciudad existían varios cementerios menores que en realidad pertenecían a pequeños pueblos que finalmente se anexionaron hasta formar los grandes barrios que hoy rodean al centro de Barcelona, pero éstos ya no podían acoger más cuerpos ante la gran explosión industrial y demográfica. De hecho, en la actualidad, esta necrópolis que se ha comido literalmente unos 567.934 metros de montaña, ya no puede extenderse más. La alta burguesía se encargó de financiar el proyecto del arquitecto Leandre Albareda, que fusionaba elementos del emergente Modernismo con el arte funerario. Lo seguimos apreciando hoy día en la estructura de muchas

de sus criptas o en los múltiples grabados en piedra o hierro que decoran lápidas y panteones. Destacan sus esculturas angélicas, suficientes como para llenar un album con cientos de fotos sólo dedicado a este tipo de arte funerario.

Con el tiempo, se han ido renovando así como añadiendo varios elementos e instalaciones como un crematorio, un localizador electrónico de tumbas, una línea regular de autobús que circula exclusivamente dentro del cementerio, jardines donde esparcir y/o depositar cenizas y diversas fuentes de agua potable distribuídas por sus muchas calles, que reciben distintos nombres como cualquier otra ciudad de vivos. La última mejora viene dada por la instalación de placas solares sobre varios bloques de nichos y que cubren un área de 700 m2 en la zona más baja del cementerio. El de Montjuïc es el segundo de Cataluña en acoger esta iniciativa.

Aunque bien conservado, llaman la atención algunos nichos que de tan antiguos, ya nadie sabe quién los ocupa y con seguridad llevan más de un siglo sin recibir visitas. Apreciando su riqueza como patrimonio cultural e histórico, fue incluído finalmente en el 2010 en la Ruta Europea de Cementerios propuesta por la ASCE (www.significantcemeteries.org). Y es que aparte del legado arquitectónico y escultórico, en sus casi 130 años de existencia este cementerio ha acogido a personajes de distintos estratos sociales y culturales, ya fueran políticos y grandes empresarios,

deportistas, artistas o incluso criminales.

Aquí descansan los restos de dos de los más homenajeados presidentes que ha tenido Catalunya, Lluís Companys, fusilado por el régimen franquista en el foso del castillo situado en la cima de la misma montaña y Francesc Macià que tuvo mejor muerte rodeado de los suyos. El compositor y pianista Isaac Albéniz i Pascual, el gran pedagógo y librepensador Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia, el dramaturgo y poeta Àngel Guimerà, el pintor y escultor Joan Miró o la cupletista española más internacional de aquellos años, Raquel Meller, son algunas de las celebridades de renombre que dan solera y reconocimiento al cementerio.

Como curiosidad recordamos que el director de cine Pedro Almodóvar rodó aquí varias escenas de su laureada “Todo sobre mi madre” y como punto absolutamente macabro, el hecho de que los huesos de la más asquerosa y odiada asesina en serie y proxeneta de la historia catalana, Enriqueta Martí i Ripollés, yacen en algún punto de la antigua fosa común.

Anyone who enters Barcelona for the very first time by its south-west side, can’t help feeling shivers, and those less sensitive to death matters will at least feel a little curious when observing the thousands of niches covering the slopes of the rocky Montjuïc (Mountain of the Jews), which seem to be reminding you on the sunniest days with blinding spittles from their glass windows how ephemeral life can be. Have as much fun as you want in this beautiful Mediterranean city, but never forget that your bones (in case you’re not cremated) can end up at any time in a place like this.

Inaugurated in 1883 from a necessity to bury the population that was growing constantly and fast, this space was blessed by the Catholic Church, but offering, something innovative at this time, the opportunity for protestants and Jews to be buried there too. (Who cares when you’re dead!) There were several small cemeteries in the city that belonged to small villages which were finally annexed, forming the big suburbs that surround the city centre today. These cemeteries couldn’t accept any more corpses because of the big industrial and demographic explosion. In fact, this necropolis that has literally eaten up some 567.934 meters of the mountain, can’t expand anymore today. The gentry, financed the project designed by the architect Leandre Albareda who mixed elements from the

emerging Modernism with the funeral art.

We still appreciate this today in the many crypts and the stone or iron engravings decorating the tombstones and pantheons.

The angelic sculptures are outstanding and enough in number to fill hundreds of pages of a photo-album just dedicated to this type of funeral art.

Over the years, the cemetery has been renovated and various elements and facilities such as a crematorium added.

Also an electronic tomb locator, a regular bus line that runs exclusively within the enclosure, gardens where ashes can be placed or scattered and several fountains with drinkable water distributed along the many streets that receive names as any other alive city, are available. The last innovation came with the installation of solar panels on the roof of several blocks of niches which cover an area of 700 m2 on the lower area of the cemetery. This one is the second in Catalonia holding this initiative. Even though it’s well preserved, some ancient niches won’t escape from your sight. They are so old that nobody knows who might be occupying them and it’s more than a century since anybody paid them a visit. Appreciating the cultural and historical richness of this patrimony, the European Council finally approved in 2010 the inclusion of this cemetery in the route proposed

by ASCE ( www.significantcemeteries.org ).

Besides being an architectural and sculptural legacy, this cemetery that has existed for nearly 130 years has received the mortal remains of personalities from different social and cultural stratus, from politicians and great business people, sporty celebs, artists and even criminals. Here are resting the bones of two of the most celebrated presidents Catalonia has ever had: Lluís Companys, executed by Franco’s regime at the moat in the castle located on the top of the same mountain where the cemetery is, and Francesc Macià who was luckier and died surrounded by his beloved ones.

The piano composer and musician Isaac Albéniz i Pascual, the great pedagogue and freethinker Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia, the dramatist and poet Àngel Guimerà, the painter and sculptor Joan Miró or the most notorious and international Spanish cuplé artist in those times, Raquel Meller, are some of the renowned celebs that give character and recognition to this place.

As a curiosity we remember that the cinema director Pedro Almodóvar filmed several scenes here for his award winning movie “Todo sobre mi madre” (All about my mother) and finally, to give an absolute macabre touch, the bones of the most nasty and hated female serial killer and pimp in Catalan history, Enriqueta Martí i Ripollés, are buried somewhere inside an ancient mass grave.

Hablamos del Cementerio de Poble Nou, también conocido como “Cementiri Vell” o “De l’Est” (cementerio viejo o del este), el primero en la ciudad de Barcelona, construído en 1775, derribado por Napoleón en 1813 y rediseñado con toques neoclásicos por el italiano Antonio Ginesi en 1819.

Destacan la escultura conocida como “El beso de la muerte”, el recinto de los panteones donde destacadas familias de la burguesía barcelonesa del siglo XIX siguen perpetuando poderosamente el recuerdo de su importancia

social y financiera y el cenotafio que recuerda a las víctimas y especialmente a los médicos que lucharon contra la peste amarilla que azotó Barcelona en 1821. Es interesante pasear mientras se conoce una parte importante de la historia de la ciudad en un momento en el que ésta crecía esplendorosamente y se modernizaba a pasos agigantados. Algunas celebridades enterradas aquí incluyen a la actriz Mary Santpere, el primer gran novelista del Renacimiento catalán Narcís Oller o el músico, poeta y político Anselm Clavé entre otros.

De manera puntual, la empresa Cementiris de Barcelona organiza rutas nocturnas guiadas con ambientación de época. ¡Fascinante!

Son Pepa y Antón, matrimonio gitano tan querido por los suyos que cada poco tiempo reciben una ofrenda floral en distintas formas y colores, otorgándole a su tumba un toque tan kitsch que no podíamos dejar de incluirlos en este reportaje.

Apart from the cemetery of Montjuïc we suggest you including in your gloomy adventure the visit to another cemetery, part of the European Cemeteries Route, which is located close to Montjuïc and deserves a mention because of its sculptural beauty and historical importance. We are talking about the Cemetery of Poble Nou, also known as “The Old Cemetery” or the “Cemetery of the East”, the first in Barcelona, built in 1775, demolished by Napoleon in 1813 and redesigned with Neo-Classical touches by the Italian Antonio Ginesi in 1819. Significants are the sculpture known as “El beso de la muerte” (The kiss of Death), the pantheons area, where important families from the 19th century bourgeoisie of Barcelona keep perpetuating in our memory their powerful, social and financial importance and the cenotaph that pays tribute to the victims and specially to the medics who fought against the yellow fever that battered the city in 1821. Eres la estrella más grande del Pop hoy LG: Realmente crees que me gusta día, increíblemente exitosa. Cuál ponerme todos estos trajes raros, es tu secreto? los sombreros, máscaras, gafas de sol, zapatones, etcétera, etcéLG: Estoy por todas partes en tera? LG: It´s my pleasure ... Sorry, I´m late!

MOVE: No worries… It is just two and a half hours. Nothing! Ready? You are the biggest Pop star today and incredibly successful. What´s your secret?

LG: I am all over the place in every bloody magazine, Internet, MTV, radio…Just everywhere! My music is …. let´s say …so “Gaga”! My videoclips are absolutely top productions and the marketing does the rest! My record label spends a fortune in it to get the money rolling. I am a product…

A bestseller! As simple as that, but I have to do things you can´t imagine.

MOVE: That you have to do things? …What does that mean?

LG: Let me say it this way: It´s not always funny, but my label has all the power to force me to do so. Unfortunately I haven´t read the contracts before signing them.

Bad mistake!

MOVE: What does your lawyer says to all of this? Or your manager?

LG: They say I´m screwed anyway, but I must keep hanging on, because this is the only way for me to be famous. To be somebody! To be something … Why do you think my tour is called “MONSTERBALL”?

MOVE: But the fashion industry calls you an “INSPIRATION”! How does that fit together?

To fix my skin defects, I have to go to a beauty salon, where they put even more shit on my face, while telling me it will help me! Hillarious! I can´t go anywhere without make-up and it´s getting worse … Do you like to see wh …?

I don´t care what it’s written on the little bottles … I´m scared of what it’s in there and NOT written on it! When I have a pizza with everything on it, at least I can see the dough, the frutti di mare, the cheese and the onion, the meat and the spices. All the good stuff what smells so good and taste delicious! I want to have tomatoes, bacon and olives on my pizza and not crap, crude oil and carcinogenic substances on my skin and in my body! On the other hand perfumes and make-up also smell good! A beautiful look and healthy lifestyle? Fuck that! It´s just an illusion! First thing I do in the morning…I puke! A simply logical process...

LG: I think, there’s just a big misunderstanding. The people take it all wrong. I am not an eccentric weirdo, the circumstances are a little bit more complicated than what they my extravaganzzas, or because I´m a diva seem to be. Let me explain you something … It´s about my restoration! Takes ages! …The true story behind all.

My own hair has gone. Therefore I have to wear funky wigs. Body lotion and lipsticks MOVE: Oh yessss!!! …. Now we´re talare so stuffed with lead, that my tits are king … Let the Jack out of the box! saggy and I have to use fancy collars to LG: Do you really believe that I like to wear keep my head up! all these weird outfits, the hats, the masks, MOVE: You turn yourself into a Freak the sunglasses, those shoes, etcetera? I Show and nobody realizes how much hate to walk around like a freak! Okay, a you are suffering... Texto por Sugar Heels Tenemos el honor de presentaros a una belleza masculina excepcional: PHIL BLAZE, que además de guapura posee un impresionante fondo tanto cultural como profesional. Su carrera ha sido desde que comenzara a dar sus primeros pasos en las pasarelas de Suiza en el 2003, poco menos que meteórica. Desfiles para grandes diseñadores como Versace o Giorgio Armani en casi todas las capitales de la moda, le han llevado a pasear su divino físico por todo el planeta. Pero su extensa experiencia incluye también numerosas apariciones en TV, habiendo participado en 28 anuncios publicitarios para marcas tan importantes como CocaCola, Heineken, Samsung u Honda por citar algunas, 9 videoclips e incluso en una película. La lista de revistas reconocidas en las que ha aparecido es igualmente incontable, pero os destacamos algunas que seguro conocéis: Men’s Health, Harper Bazaar, Image, FHM, Maxim...Y cómo no MOVE Magazine. Guau, qué bien suena eso jeje. Y todavía podríamos seguir llenando estas páginas hasta el último milímetro con su currículo, en el que grandes marcas y empresas líderes de todo el mundo han querido que fuese su cara la que presentase muchos de sus productos. Sabe perfectamente que nada es para siempre, así que cuando decida que ya ha vivido bastante de su físico (que como cualquier otro también tiene su caducidad, especialmente en el sector de la moda), tiene una brillante educación en el College of Business, Economics and Law de Berna (Suiza), ciudad donde ha nacido y pasado gran parte de su vida. Además de eso, domina con fluidez tanto el idioma suizo, como el alemán, el francés, el inglés y el tailandés, algo que apostamos podrá abrirle muchísimas puertas allá donde vaya.

En cuanto a sus aficiones, le encantan los libros sobre filosofía, autoayuda y desarrollo y también las biografías.

Le gusta el baloncesto, y de hecho era jugador semiprofesional antes de convertirse en modelo. También disfruta con otras actividades más creativas como pintar retratos, diseñar ropa para hombres (algo que ya realizaba hace años) o la fotografía.

Text by Sugar Heels It’s such a honour to introduce you an exceptional male beauty like PHIL BLAZE, who besides being a goodlooking guy, has an extraordinary background in both cultural and professional aspects. His career has been since he took his first steps on the catwalks of Switzerland by 2003, nothing less than meteoric. Fashion Shows involving some of the best designers like Versace or Giorgio Armani in most of the main fashion capitals have given him the chance to walk his divine physique all over the planet.

But his extensive experience includes also numerous TV appearances, having participated in 28 commercials for very important brands like Coca-Cola, Heineken, Samsung or Honda just to name a few, 9 videoclips and even a lengh-movie. The list of known magazines is also uncountable and for sure you’ll know many of them: Men’s Health, Harper Bazaar, Image, FHM, Maxim...And of course, MOVE Magazine. Wow, that sounds really good to us now hehe. And we could still go on and on until filling these pages up to the last milimetre with his curriculum, in which we read that great brands and leading companies have wanted him to present their products. Represented by some of the best model agencies worldwide, they don’t hesitate on offering him as one of their favourites, such are his skills in front of both the photographic and the video-camera. He was in fact heading his steps towards acting and he hopes to take interpretation up again one day.

With the genetic richness that crossbreeding uses to bring, Phil has picked up his heredity from Switzerland as well as from Germany and Thailand, even though the hazelnut tone of his skin, his almond-shaped eyes and in general all the exoticism that prevails on his face, make clear that in the natural selection for certain features, the Thai genes are predominant, giving as a result the sculptural beauty you have before your eyes. However, the best of all is that even though we could praise to the skies his fantastic beauty without ever stopping, this guy is everything but a dumb. He perfectly knows that nothing last forever, so when the moment to decide that he has already lived enough from his body comes (it has its expiration date like any other else, and specially in the fashion industry), he has received a brilliant education at the College of Business, Economics and Law in Bern (Switzerland), the city where he was born and where he’s spent most of his life. Besides that, he speaks fluently Swiss, German, French, English and Thai, something that we guess will open him many doors wherever he goes to.

Regarding his hobbies, he tells us that he enjoys very much reading books about philosophy, self-help & development and biographies. He also likes playing basketball and he actually was a semi-pro player before modelling.

When feeling more creative, he uses to paint mostly portraits, to design men’s clothing (something he was already doing a few years ago) or even photography.

Disciplina: Cuida tu cuerpo, tu mente y tu imagen. Hay cientos de personas que quieren ser modelo pero solo el/la mejor conseguirá . Por eso, procura llevar un estilo de vida saludable, comer adecuadamente, hacer ejercicio regularmente, dormir lo suficiente y tener una actitud mental positiva.

Discipline: Take best care of your body, your mind and your look. There are hundreds of people who want to become a model, and only the best will get the jobs. So better have a healthy lifestyle, eat properly, exercise regularly, sleep enough and have a positive mental attitude.

Persistencia: No tires la toalla jamás y da siempre lo mejor de tí mismo/a. No conseguirás todos los trabajos a los que optes pero eso es totalmente normal. No te desanimes y sigue insistiendo. Es cierto que hay siempre excepciones con algunos/as modelos que han triunfado enseguida pero la realidad es que eso no es muy frecuente. Tienes que ser consciente de que deberás atravesar momentos realmente duros y aún así, seguir persistiendo.

Autoconfianza: Debes ser capaz de mostrar tu cuerpo y aceptar cualquier prenda o estilo que debas lucir. Debes sentirte cómodo/a en cualquier papel (por supuesto, ten cuidado con los timos y otras clases de chanchullos; lo que suelen buscar es aprovecharse sexualmente de ti).

Self-confidence: You have to be able to show skin and feel okay with whatever you have to wear or however you are styled. You have to be comfortable to show yourself in any role they want you to be (just be aware of scam, where they just want to take sexually advantage of you).

Friendliness and professionalism: Always be charming, behave properly and be nice. You hardly know the background of the people you work with: They could be a future big personality in the business, have connections to top people and the words how you are mostly spreads quickly around because everybody is somehow connected. A great job done can build up the potential to get more and bigger jobs or a bad job done can turn out that you won’t get booked anymore for any jobs. Producers, stylist and designers don’t want to work with difficult models. Smile.

Simpatía y profesionalidad: Intenta resultar siempre encantador/a, compórtate adecuadamente y se agradable. No conoces prácticamente nada de la vida de las personas con las que trabajas. A veces puede que tengas delante a una futura personalidad dentro de este negocio, o a alguien que tiene contactos con gente muy importante e influyente así que los comentarios sobre tu persona pueden llegar rápidamente a oídos de quien menos imagines, porque casi todos están conectados de alguna manera en este sector. Un buen trabajo realizado puede proporcionarte más trabajos que pueden ser incluso más importantes que el anterior, pero un mal trabajo realizado puede provocar que no te contraten nunca más para nada. Ni productores, ni estilistas o diseñadores quieren trabajar con modelos conflictivos/as. Sonríe.

Persistence: Never give up and always give your best. You won’t get every job you cast for but that is totally normal. Don’t get discouraged and keep going on. Of course there are always some exceptions of models who just made it overnight but that is rare.

You have to be ready to go through tough times and keep trying.

I had to do it, I had to pay tribute to these two House supertunes of the 90s that have marked my life, being the soundtrack for my first nights working in discotheques, first as a waitress and later dancing on podiums, sweating as mad and thinking whilst contemplating the dance floor under my feet that those were some years I would have never changed not for anything in the world.

“Now I close my eyes now And I’m dreaming right where I belong” Let’s going to remember first the theme “Dreamer” by the band LIVIN’ JOY, formed by the Italian brothers Paolo and Gianni Visnadi who counted first with the voice of Tameka Starr but whom later made the right decision to opting for the Afro-American singer Janice Robinson, an authentic bombon in that time, owner of a powerful voice (really, the black voices are for the House music like a good wine for a good meal). Immediately after being recorded, the song reached #1 on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart. It was so successful that turned out a sleeper hit on the Billboard Hot 100, more dedicated to Pop music. It reached #72 spending 17 weeks in the chart. Regarding England, it was included twice in the UK Singles Chart, first time getting a #18 (1994) and the second time already in the year 95 occuping a well deserved #1. No doubt, delicious and elegant House goes through your ears like a fish through water.

With a contagious bass sound, its groove catches you up frenetically and its balanced and beautiful composure that is one of the nicest, most intense and emotional songs ever written in dance music history. If this isn’t enough, Janice Robinson’s interpretation is simply unbeatable.

Listen to this theme again, even if it’s on your sound system through your computer, the important thing is put your headphones on and pump up the volume higher and higher...

You’re going to melt with its nuances. What a wonder, WOW. And in case you’re too young and this song doesn’t sound even familiar to you, c’mon, take your time to appreciate the great music we used to dance to in the 90s.

Hell, I’m getting goose bumps while listening to this myself, writing this article at 6am and crying with this short sentence that says it all for me (and I guess that also for many of you):

Recuerdo estar sirviendo copas en un bar musical de Vilanova i La Geltrú (Barcelona) en el que era uno de mis primeros puestos de trabajo en la noche y oir este tema por vez primera de la mano de Johnny, el primer DJ que me brindó la oportunidad de conocer la buena música de baile. Hacia mitad de la noche se veía obligado a pinchar Pop español en general, incluyendo todo tipo de canciones absurdas con la única misión de entretener a los típicos borrachos saltimbanquis, pero en las primeras tres horas de la noche tenía la libertad de poner los temas que a él le gustaban personalmente. It was the first song released from the second album of the band, “Elegant Slumming”, and it peaked the #6 in the UK Singles Chart. The sequenced synths in the beginning and during the break hook you as a hard drug and the slushy choruses drill your brain until becoming the memorable great song that it is. Again, the black voice of Heather Small is nothing less than divine and on top of it...The video clip was filmed in my precious Barcelona. ¿What else could you ask for?

By Chris Bombardi El Senado norteamericano confirmó el mes pasado por primera vez en su historia a un magistrado varón abiertamente gay, como juez de un distrito federal. Se trata de J. Paul Oetken (nacido nada menos que la sureña ciudad de Louisville, Kentucky, en 1965) doctorado en derecho por la universidad de Yale y que fue asistente administrativo en el Tribunal Supremo, máxima instancia judicial del país, y abogado del Estado bajo el mandato del presidente Bill Clinton.

Ahora ha sido nombrado juez federal por el distrito sur de Nueva York, con una votación de 80 contra 13. Como pueden adivinar, todos los senadores que se opusieron a su elección, están afiliados al Partido Republicano.

El senador demócrata neoyorquino Charles Schumer, quien propuso a Oetken para el puesto, ha admitido que le ha elegido por su experiencia y, también, por su sexualidad. “Me sorprendió enterarme de que no había jueces varones abiertamente homosexuales en todo el sistema judicial federal”, dijo Schumer en septiembre en conferencia de prensa. Sin intención de faltar al respeto al senador, nos preguntamos cuánto tiempo lleva viviendo en USA como para no saber que allí, ser gay es algo que nadie anuncia si quiere triunfar en su carrera.

Antes de Oetken otra persona, en esta caso una mujer abiertamente homosexual, fue ratificada por el Congreso para el sistema de justicia federal. Se trata de Deborah Batts, que también es magistrada por el distrito sur de Nueva York. Fue elegida durante la Administración de Bill Clinton, en los años 90.

Para rematar la cadena de noticias, el matrimonio entre homosexuales fue definitivamente aprobado en el estado de Nueva York a finales del mes de junio.

El Ayuntamiento de la ciudad registró tal afluencia de parejas que deseban dar el “Yes, I do” (Sí, quiero) que se dice allí, que decidió poner un límite de 764 licencias matrimoniales por día y tuvo que echar mano de un sorteo para elegir a los primeros que han gozado de este derecho, que todos querían casarse en el primer día de la ejecución de esta nueva ley.

La ciudad de Nueva York tiene una especial importancia para los activistas homosexuales por una razón concreta: allí se desarrollaron en junio de 1969 los disturbios de Stonewall, considerados el detonante del movimiento por los derechos de los gais y lesbianas. Son muchas las asociaciones LGTB norteamericanas que han dicho durante décadas que si el ejército pasaba por el aro de la aceptación y la igualdad, y el estado de Nueva York aprobaba la ley del matrimonio, el resto del duro camino hacia la igualdad real en todo el país sería cuestión de poco tiempo.

The U.S. Senate last month confirmed for the first time ever a man openly gay as a federal district judge. This is J. Paul Oetker (born nothing less than in the southern Louisville, Kentucky, in 1965) doctorate in law by Yale University and an administrative assistant in the Supreme Court, (the country’s highest court) and counsel for the State under President Bill Clinton’s mandate.

Now he has been named federal judge for the Southern District of New York, with a vote of 80 to 13.

As you can guess, all the senators who opposed his election were members of the Republican Party.

New York Democratic Senator Charles Schumer, who proposed Oetker for the position, has admitted that he has chosen him for his expertise and also for his sexuality. “I was surprised to find out that there were no openly gay male judges throughout the federal judicial system” Schumer said in a news conference in September. No disrespect intended to Senator, but we wonder how long he has been living in USA to not be aware of that over there, being gay is something that no one announces if they want to succeed in their careers.

To complete the chain of news, gay marriage finally was adopted in the state of New York in late June. The City Council reported such an inflow of couples willing to say the “Yes, I do”, that decided to put a limit of 764 marriage licenses a day and had to come up with a random lottery to choose the firsts that will enjoy this right.

Main reason was that everyone wanted to get married in the first day of the execution of this new law.

The city of New York has a special significance for gay activists for a specific reason: there took place in June, 28th, 1969 the Stonewall riots, considered as the trigger of the movement for the gays and lesbians’ rights. Many American LGBT associations have said for decades that if the army passed through the ring of acceptance and equality, and the state of New York passed the law of marriage, the rest of the rough road to real equality in the whole country would be just a matter of time.

La primera vez que ví el videoclip del tema “McBoogie” sentí como si me hubiesen golpeado con un martillo. Solo pensé “INCREÍBLE - JODER! CÓMO MOLAN!” Y tras este primer impacto de bala de los Guns, me adentré un poco más profundamente en las catacumbas de Moropolis con la intención de averiguar más sobre ellos. Y cuál fue mi sorpresa! Metalbilly! Jamás había oído hablar de este estilo.

Qué coño era eso del Metalbilly?

Era un rollo genial y la verdad es que en las dos semanas siguientes no escuché otra música. Y me quedé enganchado.

Habiendo admirado la música Rock de toda la vida y en casi todas sus variantes, este nuevo estilo me suena a auténtica revelación. Recuerdo los inicios del Rock & Roll, en los 50 con todos sus héroes inolvidables, los 60 con sus guitarras psicodélicas, los 70 con la llegada del Glam, el Punk y el Hard Rock, los 80 que es cuando el Heavy Metal se apoderó de todo hasta finales de los 90. A partir de aquí la música Rock comenzó a vivir su declive.

La Electrónica, el Hip Hop, el Gangsta Rap, los DJS y las reinas y reyes del Pop conquitaron todas las listas. Las raves proliferaban por todo el mundo y el viejo buen Rock & Roll estaba muerto! Hecho pedazos, el Rock sobrevivió básicamente gracias a los grandes festivales anuales ya consolidados, donde grandes bandas de los 80 siguen siendo hoy día la cabeza de cartel, con una armada de bandas menores o prácticamente desconocidas a no ser por la escena

Indie como teloneros. Esto ha seguido entreteniendo a una multitud que corea enfervorecida cada canción y a un sector de público que se limita a los fans más acérrimos.

Hasta ahora! Bajo la brillante batuta de su líder y guitarra August Paulsen, GoM realmente me alegraron el día! Su álbum de debut “IN DYNAMITE WE TRUST” conquistó las listas DAT20. Sinceramente, lo mejor que he oído en la última década. Relleno exquisitamente como un pavo de Navidad con la clase de canciones fantásticas que hacía tiempo echaba de menos y que me hicieron sentir vivo de nuevo. Esta banda ha encontrado la forma de construir musicalmente un puente a través de todas las décadas del Rock, dando lugar al nacimiento de un nuevo estilo que llaman METALBILLY. Si no lo hubiera sabido antes, que el primer videoclip contundente no es una producción originalmente americana realizada en el SurEste o en Memphis, en el estado de Tennessee sino que ha sido filmado en un taller mecánico de coches en Nuremberg, habría pensado que esto era el sonido proveniente de “La Tierra de Los Libres”.

Pero no, esto está HECHO EN ALEMANIA! No más “El mundo debe cambiar” y todo ese rollo cursilón sobre romances, amor y corazones rotos, himnos y baladas. Un bajo machacante, una matadora y acelerada batería y clásicos y refrescantes solos de guitarras, todo complementado con voces poderosas y maravillosas melodías. SÍ!

¿Prefieres oir dulces letras y escuchar címbalos y violines? Entonces ve a La Ópera! Yo quiero que mi cuerpo vibre, revolcarme por los suelos y menear mi cabeza todo el tiempo cuando escucho buen Rock! Letras fáciles que pueda gritar mientras levanto mis brazos y me divierto un mogollón. Perder el control y sentir como el ritmo hace flipar a mi mente. Y para eso está hecho el Rock & Roll. Buena música simple y llanamente, que ha encontrado una vía evolutiva desde el pasado hasta el moderno presente gracias a estos chicos.

Guns of Moropolis asaltan la carretera con una gira que les llevará por 23 ciudades a lo largo y ancho de toda Alemania y Austria en Octubre de este año 2011.

Bajo las alas del reconocido sello BRAINSTORM, estoy seguro de que no pasará mucho tiempo hasta que se conviertan en cabezas de cartel de grandes eventos en toda Europa. Y quién sabe...Incluso los Estados Unidos no están tan lejos de su alcance.

Por ahora podemos anunciaros ya, que nos sentimos orgullosos y felices de traerles a España el próximo año, como segunda banda principal en uno de los conciertos que tendrá lugar en nuestro ERUPTION Stage. En una conversación personal telefónica con August Paulsen hemos llegado al acuerdo de encajar a esta fantástica en nuestro cartel, para ofrecer un espectáculo alucinante. Creédnos, esa noche en Lanzarote, sabréis de qué estamos hablando.

And what was my surprise...

CB: Hola Tom! Según lo que sé, tú y Rossana inventásteis el concepto de ERUPTION Fair & Festival. ¿Cómo llegó la idea?

TM: Todo comenzó un día, preparando pequeños eventos en la isla, aunque no pasó mucho tiempo hasta que estábamos ya pensando en grande, y eso nos trajo como resultado la creación del monstruoso evento que ERUPTION es. Tan simple como eso!

Hemos pasado los 3 últimos años juntando todas las ideas, dándole forma a todo y reuniendo a los mejores profesionales que hemos podido encontrar en varios campos. Estuve involucrado con anterioridad en proyectos más pequeños aunque también importantes, pero este evento es algo completamente distinto. Tiene su propio concepto y filosofía. ERUPTION es algo absolutamente nuevo y hay muchas cosas que incluso nosotros mismos tenemos que aprender durante su desarrollo.

TM: Ya me gustaría que eso fuese así, ¡pero es del todo imposible! Tengo que preparar la zona para todos ellos, y hay muchas cosas que hacer de antemano y durante el año, que permiten que ellos puedan desarrollar bien su trabajo. Me encargué de realizar los primeros planos y trazar las primeras líneas generales, todo bastante en bruto. Ahora estamos a punto de realizarlo todo en detalle, pulcramente y con exactitud técnica. Vamos a empezar a encajar todas las piezas del puzzle, hacer que el motor funcione y no se detenga.

CB: E imaginamos que estamos hablando de un puzzle enorme.

TM: Alrededor de 1000 personas son necesarias para hacer que esto suceda, durante los 16 días del evento. Casi la mitad de estas personas trabajará en secciones relacionadas con mi departamento. Con puntualidad y 7 días a la semana, aparte del tiempo previo y posterior al evento. Esto supone mucha logística e infrastructura, transporte de múltiples objetos por vía aérea y marítima, recursos humanos y alguien que esté por encima de todo ello, alguien que sepa como manejar tal cantidad de personas. Y ese CB: Tu cargo es el de Director Técnico. Sé que soy yo. Soy muy bueno en eso. eres un gran pensador, la mente maestra detrás de esto y un mediador/apaciaguador de conflictos por CB: Qué tipo de trabajadores necesitas? naturaleza...Pero, ¿cómo vas a hacer para manejar este gran festival sin perder el control? Adivino que TM: Habrá muchos puestos de trabajo distintos disponibles, dado que necesitamos muchos tipos de esto no resultará nada fácil. especialistas distintos para hacer que esto funcione.

TM: ¡Por supuesto que no es fácil! Apoyándome en Electricistas, fontaneros, pintores, constructores, mis cualidades como Ingeniero Eléctrico y en otras conductores, herreros, carpinteros, reponedores, cuatro fomaciones que tengo, creo que no perderé limpiadores, etc. Todo tipo de trabajos manuales y el mando. He’s the eminence in the event industry in Spain, and also recognized and respected abroad. The stages and all the rigging assemblies will be set up by Ángel Couceiro who’s been doing this for many years, working at some of the biggest concerts and events in general. And we cannot forget Adrian Smith, a Stage Designer who’s usually working for the best artists and companies in the world. Just to name a few. I enjoy very much working with professionals of such caliber in the event industry. We feel really proud and honored to have them on board.

CB: So, you put these guys in charge and you can lean back and enjoy? (Laughing) TM: I wish it was like that. But no way! I have to prepare the area for all of them, and there are so many things to do upfront

TM: This unique island has an enormous potential to develop many things in the near future. We will create a lot of jobs for the resident people and we want that everybody likes what they’re doing, identifying themselves with the project, feeling proud of what we can build together.

If they can see more than a job from 9 to 5 and get the big picture, then we will be able to make much more happening. It is just the beginning. To be a part of this fantastic event… Is priceless. And don’t forget: After the event just means before the event! Most of the employees will be needed for the next edition of this event and other projects during the year. There is much more behind this festival, but I can´t talk about that right now.

CB: Thank you very much for the information, Tom. About the moments you take for relaxing. What do you do?

TM: I don´t ! (Laughing)
