OCN Level 3 Physical Activity for the Early Years This four day course will enable learners to understand the physical development of young children and how this relates to other aspects of child development. It will identify the needs and requirements in promoting physical development for young children and illustrate the development of fine and gross motor skills. During the course learners will establish the skills and tools to develop and deliver a wide range of opportunities for children to access active play and physical activity. The course will identify ways that learners can increase levels of physical activity within different settings to meet the current current guidelines and recommendations. Aims of the Course Understand and know how to support the physical growth and development of young children and how this relates to other aspects of a child’s development Understand the difference between fine and gross motor skills and how these can be developed through a range of developmental activities and equipment Understand the importance of maintaining a safe environment whilst promoting the physical development of children whilst supporting challenges and risk awareness Understand ways in which the physical development for children from birth to three years impinges upon other areas of development, such as literacy and numeracy Age: 16+ (please note, there is no upper age limit for this qualification) Pre-Requisites: There are no formal pre-requisites

OCN Level 3 Supporting the Physical Development of Children from Birth to Three This one day course provides learners with the understanding of how physical activities can support the physical and overall development of young children from birth to three. During the course learners will develop ideas for different types of physical activities, which help support a child’s development, and illustrate how they can be delivered in a range of settings. Aims of the Course Understand the physical maturational stages for children from birth to three years Know the key motor skills and important conditions for promoting the physical development of children from birth to three years Understand ways in which the physical development for children from birth to three years impinges upon other areas of development, such as literacy and numeracy Be able to develop a suitable programme of activities for supporting children's physical development from birth to three years Age: 16+ (please note, there is no upper age limit for this qualification) Pre-Requisites: There are no formal pre-requisites. Learning hours: 10 hours (including 2 hours pre course reading)

Coaching Early Years Sports Fundamentals and Physical Activity This one day course will provide the learners with the coaching skills and tools to be able to develop and deliver engaging fundamental movement and skills activities. The learners will be able to help young children improve their sport fundamental motor skills, the foundation for sport specific skills, through a range of fun and engaging activities. This one day course can be supplemented with a range of specific workshops to provide the learners with additional ideas if required, please see page for Move and Explore workshops Aims of the Course Learners will; Identify the appropriate stages of fundamental motor skill development Describe the key developmental processes and factors a young child goes through in developing fundamental motor skills Be able to provide an engaging and appropriate active environment for young children Develop a range of appropriate physical activities Deliver range of activities through a mixture of adult led and child directed coaching Age: 16+ (please note, there is no upper age limit for this qualification) Pre-Requisites: There are no formal pre-requisites Guided Learning hours: 8 hours Qualifications:

Move and Explore: Active Play Workshop This 3 hour workshop provides learners with the knowledge and tools to provide high quality physical development opportunities through active play. The workshop identifies how learners can create active learning environments to encourage children to engage in active play and support their physical development. The workshop will also help learners understand how they can increase young children’s levels of daily physical activity through active play in line with the latest recommendations and guidelines. The workshop is delivered through an active approach as created by ActiveConnections, helping everyone to learn in an enjoyable and engaging environment. Move and Explore: Early Movements to Music Workshop A 3 hour workshop that provides early years practitioners with the ideas and tools to develop young children’s fundamental movement skills through creative dance and movement. The workshop also identifies how creative dance and movement can be used to increase the levels of daily physical activity in line with the latest recommendations and guidelines. Rhythm and timing is an important building block for children's movement. All our gross motor skills require timing and co-ordinated movement which is supported through musical activities. This short workshop will allow the learners to understand how they can help children develop this important set of skills. The workshop is delivered through an active approach as created by ActiveConnections, helping everyone to learn in an enjoyable and engaging environment. Aims of the course Describe the physical milestones and fundamental movement skills in young children. Understand the importance of rhythm, timing and co-ordinated movement for a child's physical development Develop fun musical activities for children in their care to support their physical development. Create movement patterns to help children develop competent physical literacy skills. Age: 16+ (please note, there is no upper age limit for this qualification) Pre-Requisites: There are no formal pre-requisites Learning hours: 3.5 hours

OCN Level 1 or 2 Working with Young Children in an Active Environment This course is aimed at people interested in working with young children, volunteers or those who are already working with children and are looking to increase their skills. The course provides learners with the understanding and knowledge of how to work and engage with children in an active environment. The course provides learners with the tools and skills to use active learning to support a child’s development, and be able to create an engaging, appropriate and developmental learning environment. Aims of the Course Know how to use practical skills and techniques to engage young children in physical activity and active learning. Know how to plan and execute activities that help young children learn and be active. Understand the Health and Safety requirements to undertake activities with children Be aware of relevant Health and Safety requirements, procedures and equipment when working with young children Recognise and manage risk by following safe working practices Be able to evaluate the result of the activities they provide. OCN Level 2 Developing Customer Service Skills This course is aimed at volunteers and anyone interested in vocations where they will have to work with the general public. It will help the learner develop high quality customer care skills for working with the general public, enabling them to provide customers with positive experiences. Learners will learn to deal with challenging situations, resolve problems and ensure customer satisfaction. This course will use an active teaching style making it a practical and enjoyable course for all learners no matter there experience.
