EDITOR’S LETTER Liverpool city centre has been expanding in recent years, with the creation of the city’s thriving Baltic Triangle and plans progressing for the northern docklands. In this issue we shine the spotlight on another emerging area to live and work the ‘Fabric District’. Our Hot Topic takes a closer look at the heritage and the potential of this part of Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter as a vision for its renaissance comes together. Plus we highlight the developments which are already being brought forward as part of its transformation. Meanwhile TV star Gok Wan takes time out to chat to Your Move as he prepares to bare all at Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre. And with autumn now in full swing we’ve rounded up some of the city’s seasonal delights, whether you’re looking for top Halloween attractions, hearty meals or fun activities whatever the weather. Enjoy!

CHANCERY HOUSE LIVERPOOL, L1 This beautiful show home mixes contemporary style with a nod to the period character of Chancery House. The bedroom’s neutral tones make way for standout features such as chandelier lighting with an edgy modern surround and attentiongrabbing artwork to bring the space to life. JCC Building Services’ residential conversion of the Grade II-listed building was designed by architects Falconer Chester Hall.
BELGRAVIA GATEACRE, L25 Whether you’re working or relaxing, this stunning space in ‘The Regent’ style show home is perfect for both. Quirky furniture coupled with cool ornamental features gives a creative look to the room, which is flooded with natural light. Checks and patterns on soft furnishings bring vibrancy to the subtle tones used without being overpowering.
COUNTRYSIDE /
ORLEANS HOUSE LIVERPOOL, L3 A chic living room helps showcase the lifestyle on offer at Orleans House – a historic converted Grade II*-listed cotton warehouse. One of 71 apartments, the show home has a simple, modern décor with a soft colour scheme. Touches of gold give a luxurious look, while the addition of a large rug, throws and silky mismatching cushions provide a comfy appeal.

NEWS FINAL COUNTDOWN TO NWPAS CELEBRATIONS The North West’s property industry is getting set for a night of spectacular celebrations with this year’s NWPAs just weeks away. Final preparations are being put in place for the glittering 19 October awards night, which will see prestigious accolades being presented across 11 categories. There will be residential and commercial property winners as the event returns to Lutyens Crypt at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, and it’s shaping up to be the biggest yet. Residential categories for 2017 include ‘Best Affordable Home to Rent or Buy’, ‘Regeneration Award’, ‘Best Student Landlord’, ‘Show Home of the Year’ and ‘Best New Home’ for small, midsized and large schemes. Accolades will also be presented for the ‘Best Property Law Firm’, ‘Residential Property Agency of the Year’, the ‘Judges’ Special Award’ and the ‘Interactive Award’. Kim O’Brien, director of Move Publishing which is behind the annual event, says: “The North West has seen such a high standard of diverse property projects during the past 12 months, providing plenty to shout about at this year’s NWPAs. “We can’t wait to welcome the region’s residential and commercial sectors for what

promises to be a fantastic night of celebrations and surprises. “I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone who has made this year’s shortlist – a brilliant achievement in itself.” Countryside is this year’s headline sponsor

Liverpool agent welcomes proposed Airbnb regulations A Liverpool estate agent has welcomed plans to clamp down on the use of home sharing websites in the city.
Bluerow Homes’ Helen Griffin-Booth
A host of new rules for platforms such as Airbnb were proposed at a recent Liverpool City Council meeting with the issue now going forward to a committee. The motion called on Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson to write to the Secretary of State for Communities and the chief executive of Airbnb to cap an entire home’s listings to 90 days per year. Helen Griffin-Booth, director at sales, lettings and investment agency Bluerow Homes, welcomes the proposed regulations. She says: “While home sharing platforms
such as Airbnb contribute towards the city’s thriving visitor economy, we also need to ensure home sharing grows responsibly and sustainably in Liverpool. “Of course the tourist sector is an important aspect to Liverpool’s growth but this should not be at the expense of local residents.” Earlier this year, Airbnb announced a ban on hosts in London from renting out entire homes for more than 90 days a year without official consent. Helen adds: “An automated 90-day limit would help ensure that short-term listings are regulated properly and that they are not having a detrimental effect on neighbourhoods.” Your Move 21

NEWS MORE THAN HALF OF HOMES LET AT NEW RENTAL SCHEME Liverpool’s Cargo Building has attracted quick demand from house hunters with more than 50% of its apartments being let.
Utility’s Liverpool ONE branch welcomed students to a special event
CITY CENTRE STUDENT EVENT HAILED A SUCCESS Liverpool’s new intake of university students is said to have brought a boost to retailer Utility as the arrivals kitted out their student accommodation. The independent business hosted a special event at its Liverpool ONE branch with promotions and giveaways to welcome the academic newcomers. Products such as items from the affordable homeware brand Umbra are said to have proven popular as the shop offered a number of incentives. A 20% off promotion code was given to coincide with the event, which also saw the first 50 shoppers who spent £15 or more receive a goody bag. Meanwhile a representative of NPW Gifts
was on hand to paint nails and faces of the customers. Richard Skelton, director at Utility, says: “The recent student event was a huge success for our Liverpool ONE store again this year. There was a great atmosphere in store with students jumping at the opportunity to have their nails and faces decorated and get a free gift goody bag with their purchases. “As ever, the aim was to put Utility on the student radar as a Liverpool independent and cement us as their first port of call for designled stationery, gift and greetings cards in Liverpool.” The boost from students comes during a period of growth for the Liverpool chain, which is planning to open its first Manchester store next spring.
In under two months since the purpose built rental development was launched to the market over half of the 324 new homes at the site have been snapped up. The scheme, which is located on the edge of the city’s Baltic Triangle and close to Albert Dock and Liverpool ONE, has been built with an aim of raising rental sector standards. Facilities include a 24-hour concierge and on-site maintenance team, and a residents’ gym, lounge and working area to help create a community among residents. Commenting on the success Jane Yates, general manager for The Cargo Building, says: “We are delighted with the interest that has been shown in the development in the two months since we launched. “It’s been lovely to welcome residents into The Cargo Building and show them some of the facilities we have to offer as well as the apartments themselves. “Our on-site team have really been fantastic to ensure we deliver a great customer service experience for everyone.” For more information about The Cargo Building visit www.cargobuilding.co.uk.

Liverpool law firm boss announces retirement The managing partner of Liverpool law firm MSB Solicitors has announced he is to retire from the top job.
Paul Bibby
Paul Bibby, who joined co-founder Sean Sexton in 1989, will step down in March but will retain an advisory role. Emma Carey, who has been a partner at the growing firm since 2005, will take over from Paul. She is currently head of MSB’s family department and specialises in divorce, financial disputes, children issues including care proceedings, cohabitation disputes and domestic violence. Paul will leave MSB, which has three offices across the city, following a recordbreaking financial year which has seen
revenues break the £5 million barrier for the first time, soaring by 16%. Announcing his retirement, he says: “I’m immensely proud of what we have built here at MSB - I believe we are rightly recognised as one of the most dynamic law firms in the region. “Emma Carey’s professional reputation in the city could not be higher - she is both a brilliant lawyer and an astute businesswoman who I have no doubt will take MSB to even greater heights.” Carey adds: “We have a strong record of achievements at the firm and, with the support of everyone here, I believe I can build on the legacy created by Paul and Sean.” Your Move 23

Sutton Kersh Auctions has sold over 500 properties and raised more than £32 million so far in 2017. At its most recent auction in September over 100 lots went under the hammer, generating a total of £5.2m and rising. Cathy Holt, associate director at Sutton Kersh, says: “We’ve had a fantastic year so far. We’ve sold over 500 properties, raising over £32,000,000. “We still have a further two auctions to go so 2017 could be our best year to date.” The sale got off to a quick start as a lot on Lorne Street sold for £105,000 - double its guide price. The highlight of the day came late in the auction when a three-bedroom semi-detached property on Rangemore Road in Mossley Hill sold for £266,000. The lot offered an opportunity to turn the property into a family home in a sought-after location and eventually attracted £66,000 above its guide price. Another success during the event included a two-bedroom cottage in Runcorn which sold for £105,000 – a total which was again double the guide price. Sutton Kersh’s next auction will be held on 2 November at The Crowne Plaza.
REDROW PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR WOOLTON FOOTBALL TEAMS Redrow has pledged its support to grassroots football in Liverpool by donating over £2,000 to two under 11s teams. The housebuilder donated the money to the teams at MSB Woolton FC - covering the cost of all the kit needed for the next two seasons. Manager of the teams Lee Rogan, who lives in a Redrow home himself, visited the sales office at the popular new development of Woolton Fields in South Liverpool to ask for help. Lee says: “We’re incredibly grateful to Redrow because the funding for the kit now means that

Renaissance NEGLECTED AND OVERLOOKED FOR DECADES THE ISLINGTON AREA OF LIVERPOOL CITY CENTRE IS NOW ON THE CUSP OF AN EXCITING REBIRTH THERE ARE PLANS FOR NEW HOMES SHOPS AND OFFICES AS PART OF AN AMBITIOUS VISION WHICH PAYS HOMAGE TO THE DISTRICT’S LONG-STANDING TEXTILE TRADITION

FABRIC DISTRICT VISION
A
bakhan on Stafford Street was, for generations of Liverpudlians, the goto place for all things fabric.
This emporium of cotton, silk, fleece and felt, alongside dozens of other fabric and fashion retailers in Islington, is part of the area’s rich textile heritage which stretches back to the early 19th Century. It’s a heritage which is being tapped into as Islington prepares to be reborn as the ‘Fabric District’. A trio of key active local stakeholders; Jason Abbott and Richard and Suzanne Jennions - the Islington Stakeholders Group (ISG) - are desperate to see what they feel is a forgotten part of the multi-billion pound Knowledge Quarter (KQ Liverpool), reach its full potential. The collective hopes the area will become a thriving mixed-use destination, where start-ups can work alongside established family businesses and people of all ages can live and enjoy a proper retail offer with bars, restaurants and public art. The stakeholders are drawing inspiration from successful regeneration projects such as that of Shoreditch in London and have recently completed a vision document for the district. “My family has been involved in this area for over 40 years,” explains Jason from the ISG. “My father had a printworks on Gildart Street for 35 years and then more recently, myself, my sister and another partner have rented the buildings for the last 15 years to whoever came along. We’ve seen plans come and go for Islington without a lot of change.” Last year, frustrated by a lack of progress, Jason and other property owners in Islington decided to do something about improving the area and founded the ISG. “We want to create a new vibrant area of Liverpool in a place which has been largely forgotten,” says Jason. “The vision document doesn't include detailed plans but it’s an overview of what we want the area to become, including our aspirations for housing in the Fabric District.” The document also includes a proposal to turn Stafford Street into more of a high street with bars, restaurants and shops to serve a part of the
“WE WANT TO CREATE A NEW VIBRANT AREA OF LIVERPOOL IN A PLACE WHICH HAS BEEN LARGELY FORGOTTEN.”
TJ Hughes Ltd’s Hughes House is among the sites being earmarked for redevelopment. city centre which Jason feels is often ignored by many Liverpool residents. In an attempt to engage more locals on the vision, Liverpool-based social enterprise PLACED hosted an interactive pop-up event this summer outside TJ Hughes on London Road – the edge of the Fabric District. “Those we spoke to were enthusiastic about improvements to the area and the desire of the stakeholder group to make it a better place to live, work and spend time,” says Jo Harrop, director of PLACED. “They told us that currently it doesn’t offer much to keep you there, that it doesn't offer much to attract the younger generation and that it isn’t an area they would spend time in during the evening. “People felt improvements proposed by the stakeholder group could help make it a place to spend time rather than just somewhere they pass through.” It appears that the new vision is beginning to gain traction with developers also. In September, Yu Property Group (YPG) won planning consent for a 10-storey residential development on Devon Street in the heart of the district. “Islington has been an unremarkable part of the city for decades now but, as part of the expanded KQ Liverpool, it’s undergoing a fabulous renaissance,” said managing director Ming Yeung at the time. Separate to the ISG, one of Islington’s biggest landowners has brought forward its own plans to bolster the area’s residential stock. Town Square Development, on behalf of T.J Hughes Ltd, last month submitted plans to Liverpool City Council to demolish its Hughes House building, which was last used as TJ’s furniture store, and replace it with an eightstorey complex of 182 apartments. The proposals, which include space for three new retail units and a new TJ Hughes Express shop, also suggest that the nearby Audley House – home to the main TJ’s store – could be redeveloped in the future.
Meanwhile Jason from the ISG has some ambitious plans for his own property holdings in the Fabric District which stretch from Kempston Street near the Thelma Madine Academy down to the corner of Gildart Street. “One of the last tenants we had smashed the place up and left us with a bit of a blank canvas,” explains Jason of his three-storey building on Kempston Street. “I started to look at what we could do with the building and it’s actually quite unique and interesting in its layout.” With the help of renowned interior design firm Sheila Bird Group, Jason is now in the process of developing what he describes as a new space for “craft, work and play” to be known as The Tapestry. It’s been confirmed that co-working space DoES Liverpool will relocate from the Gostins Building on Hanover Street to the new venture, with work already well underway on site. In other news Gary Millar, co-owner of Parr Street Studios, confirmed to Your Move that he is also in talks over a possible future commercial venture in the Fabric District, demonstrating the area’s already burgeoning attractiveness for local entrepreneurs. With all this talk of co-working space, bars and revitalising a disregarded area, it’s inevitable some observers will draw comparisons with the Baltic Triangle - another once neglected part of the city centre which has experienced a successful resurgence in recent years – but it’s not a view Jason pays much credence to. “This isn’t a digital and creative part of the town - I don't want it to be labelled as another Baltic Triangle,” he says. “We’re not trying to copy what the Baltic has done, historically the area has been about fabric and making things. “This is about the people who have been operating in this area for a while now looking to create something which is a lot nicer than what is currently there and make it a better place to work and live.” Your Move 31

TALENT IN THE CITY
INTERVIEW BY NATASHA YOUNG
What can fans expect from your ‘Naked and Baring All’ live show when it comes to Liverpool? Lots of naked and lots of baring all – metaphorically and maybe even a little bit physically! It’s a really fun show and it’s a little bit of everything, so it’s autobiographical i.e. ‘where did I come from?’ and ‘how did this happen?’ possibly, but it’s more to do with looking at those really extreme moments. There are things from the darkest moments, whether that’s being bullied for being gay or growing up mixed race on a council estate; and it’ll actually be about the lighter moments as well, like the ridiculousness of the fashion industry and the ridiculousness of television and all the stuff that happens behind the scenes. It’s basically a 90-minute ‘in conversation with…’ where I will just reveal all. If you ever thought you know everything about me then I think you might be slightly surprised - there are lots of hidden secrets in there. You seem to speak openly quite often and you’ve also written an autobiography, so what made you want to reveal even more and do so in front of a live audience? It’s less about wanting to reveal more and more to do with it being the right time in my career. I’ve been around for 22 years now and I’ve done a huge amount. I’ve had the most incredible, loyal following of people and also I’ve talked a lot about stuff, but I’ve been selective about what I’ve wanted to talk about or what I’ve felt comfortable talking about. I’ve been looking, I suppose, for a device like a oneman show where you can have a conversation and you can talk about all that stuff. I shy away from doing it in situations like interviews because I think how do you possibly talk about something very passionately that has happened to you over a two-page spread? It’s impossible. This is my way of doing it and, actually, if any journalists are going to come then they’re going to get a lot of material! Also the stories are not skewed to be just my side of the story. They’re really honest, from the heart stories. Liverpool is a city well known for its love of style. Have you spent a lot of time here whilst working in fashion? A little bit, yeah. We filmed up there and did a live catwalk show in the first series of ‘Gok’s Clothes Roadshow’. We had a great catwalk show actually, and then we had a really, really big night out in a gay club which was lots of fun!
What would be your key tip for Your Move readers when it comes to looking and feeling great? I think it’s about treating yourself, looking after yourself and making time for the things you need to have done, instead of stuff like new nails and having a wax being just a necessity. It’s about turning it into an event which always works. That’s the first thing – you get a better relationship with your body if you touch it. The second thing is to trust your creativity, trust your opinion and if you like a certain style that season then, regardless of who is telling you to or not to wear it, you should wear it for yourself anyway.
“If you ever thought you know everything about me then I think you might be slightly surprised - there are lots of hidden secrets in there.” All of your TV shows seem to have focused on people making the most of what they have and being themselves. When you started out with ‘How to Look Good Naked’ did you originally have a wider aim of bringing everyone around to that way of thinking? No not at all, I had no idea at all what I was doing! ‘How to Look Good Naked’ kind of influenced me and my opinion on body image and body confidence before I even knew I thought any of that stuff, and so when we were making the show we were saying ‘well this is the right thing to believe isn’t it?’ and ‘shouldn’t everyone feel this way?’. It became very clear that the world didn’t feel that way, which is the success of the show. We went on that journey as producers and a presenter, discovering that this is how we feel about stuff and that ethos. The way we live our lives and how we construct our business came from that show.
As you’ve continued to work on more programmes with that approach, what impact do you think you’ve had? I would hate to think I was the pioneer or the person at the frontline of all that stuff because it would be way too arrogant for me to believe that but I know how important ‘How to Look Good Naked’ was, not only to this country but 38 countries around the world. It was a very, very important programme and I think ‘How to Look Good Naked’ was a safe place and a forum. We debated issues in a fun way but we put the questions out there, and so I think we were definitely part of the movement. In a world where there’s still so much focus on the way people look, is there anything you’d like to see people doing to celebrate who we are more? I think there’s a massive inequality going on and it is really tough. Wouldn’t we all love to live in a world where everyone just accepted people for who they were and they didn’t have to justify their existence by designer handbags, shoes or their waistline? That would be the ideal and that would be the dream. I feel very doubtful we’re ever going to get there because of the advertising industry and restrictions, and even the world has changed; we’ve gone backwards in the last 12 months with certain politicians getting in and misogyny, and inequality seems to be far more apparent than it’s ever been in my lifetime so I think we’ve got a long way to go. You’ve become known as a fashion consultant, an author, a TV presenter, a cook, a DJ. Is there anything else you’re hoping to add to the list? I don’t know at the moment, I think once I’m through this year I’ll have a better understanding of where I’m going to go. We’ll see what happens next year. Hopefully this live show will be a success and if it is we want to tour it with lots more dates next year and maybe internationally, so let’s see. Do you have anything exciting in the pipeline beyond your show that you can tell us about? I’ve got three TV shows which we are working on and there’s a couple of other things but I can’t tell you!

ROYAL COURT’S COURTYARD BAR & KITCHEN OPENS ITS DOORS A new drinking and dining space has opened in the old Penny Farthing pub next to Liverpool’s Royal Court. The Roe Street theatre bought the bar earlier this year and has transformed the space into ‘Courtyard Bar & Kitchen’. The new venue is being billed as great place to go for lunch, dinner or a late supper after a show and includes a drinks terrace and garden in the old yard, which the theatre says “provides a little oasis of greenery in the centre of town”.
NEW RESTAURANT PLANNED FOR CASTLE STREET Another new restaurant could soon be opening on Castle Street. ‘Heritage Restaurant’ has applied to Liverpool City Council for a licence to supply alcohol at 42 Castle Street. If approved, Heritage will open next to Caffè Nero, on the junction with Cook Street. The area surrounding Castle Street and Water Street, traditionally a commercial area of the city centre, has become home to an increasing number of bars and restaurants in recent years.
LIVERPOOL ITALIAN RESTAURANTS UP FOR NATIONAL HONOURS A clutch of Liverpool’s Italian restaurants have been nominated for top honours at the English Italian Awards 2017. Campbell Square restaurant Amalia is in the running for both the Best Pizza and Best Pasta categories whilst Woolton Road’s Cucina di Vincenzo is up for the Best Newcomer award. Italian Club Fish on Bold Street has been put forward for Healthy Dish of the Year with Seel Street’s Peacock also nominated in the Best Pizza section. The awards, which celebrate the country’s Italian businesses, take place on 15 October at The Principal hotel in Manchester.
TIGER ROCK
North John Street, L1 The inside of Tiger Rock’s new city centre branch couldn't be more at odds with its position on a rather gloomy stretch of North John Street. Arriving for our evening booking and ascending from the spacious foyer into the restaurant proper, my partner and I were warmly greeted by a member of staff who showed us to our table. As we waited for the menus, the pair of us had a chance to check out the simple yet classy décor which was given an authentic Southeast Asian feel with the rustic tableware and bamboo shutters decorating each window. Tiger Rock is based around the concept of hawker food which, as the waiting staff explained, refers to the delicacies sold by Thai and Malaysian street vendors typically served in small plates and bowls – much like the bulk of Tiger Rock’s menu. After getting the lowdown on the theory behind the grub it was almost time to put it to the test, but before we did it seemed only right to sample one of the speciality cocktails on offer. Being partial to a lychee boiled sweet but never having tried the real thing, I went for a Lychee Bellini whilst my partner plumped for a Limoncello Raspberry Bellini (both £5). My eastern example of the classic Italian cocktail was brilliantly refreshing with the fresh lychee garnish giving it a welcome sour punch to finish. My date’s beverage was
REVIEW BY LAWRENCE SAUNDERS certainly more in keeping with the drink’s Venetian roots thanks to the lemon liqueur, whilst the burst of raspberry gave it a distinctly British summer vibe. Time to crack on with the food and following some valuable guidance through the menu we decided to order five dishes to share – a combination of small plates and bowls. First out of the kitchen was Shu Mai (£4.95), which is one of my all-time takeaway favourites and thankfully Tiger Rock’s interpretation didn't disappoint. The steamed homemade minced pork and king prawn dumplings avoided sogginess and the chilli dipping sauce had just the right amount of heat. Small plate number two was Nasi Goreng (£5.95). Described on the menu as popular Malaysian hawker food, the combination of chicken fried rice with fried egg and prawn crackers was superb. Next up was Malaysia’s national dish, Nasi Lemak (£5.50) - coconut rice with crispy anchovies, boiled egg, roasted peanuts and Sambal sauce wrapped in a banana leaf. Sounds delicious, right? Well unfortunately my partner can’t stand boiled eggs so she thought otherwise and I was left with the lot to myself – what a shame. The crispy anchovies
sounded like a great idea on paper and they proved just as clever in the flesh and, as you’d imagine, the combination of a boiled egg and nuts was incredible. The penultimate plate was Mee Goreng Udang (£6.95) - king prawn fried noodles with chilli. Described on the menu as a popular Malaysian/Indian dish, these noodles are known to be served by Malay hawkers with freshly caught crustaceans. Having yet to visit Malaysia I can’t say for sure whether Tiger Rock’s interpretation was as good as the real thing but it certainly tasted great. Our last dish was Siu Arp (£6.50) - roast duck breast with bok choi and boiled rice. The duck was tender and the vegetables were well cooked but unfortunately the overall effect was rather bland and the dish would have certainty benefited from a smidgen more sauce. For pudding the Apple Spring Rolls with coconut ice cream (£4.50) immediately caught my eye on what was admittedly a limited dessert menu. Think McDonald’s apple pie Southeast Asian-style you’ve got to try them. Even the £70 parking ticket that greeted us when we got back to the car on Victoria Street couldn’t spoil what had been a thoroughly satisfying evening of delicious, authentic cuisine.

Liverpool is home to a huge number of spectacular green spaces but none are more stunning than Sefton Park, particularly in the autumn. There’s no better way to spend a crisp day than by taking a stroll through this beautiful 235-acre park, surrounded by all the colours of the season. And, if you’d like to add a little excitement you can attend the Spooky Welly Walk which is held at the park every year ahead of Halloween. This year’s event takes place on 21 October and will see thousands of people don their favourite spooky costume and parade around the park in aid of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Tickets for the event are £4 in advance and £5 on the day.

AUTUMN IN LIVERPOOL
RIVER OF LIGHT FESTIVAL This year will see the River of Light firework festival return to the waterfront and while last year’s event had a few, ahem, teething problems; this year’s event is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever. Pyrotechnic specialists at Titanium Fireworks, which is behind events such as Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, will take care of the display at the free event on 5 November from 6.30pm. Spectators will be gathering on both sides of the river to watch the musical display.
MUSTER CUSTOM COFFEE You’ve no doubt heard of (and tried) Starbucks’ pumpkin spice latte but why go for a big corporation when you can keep it local and independent? Muster Custom Coffee on Argyle Street has just launched its new drinks menu and it’s overflowing with autumnal inspiration. Try the cinnamon or gingerbread latte, indulge in a maple latte with sprinkles or treat yourself to a cinnamon spiced hot chocolate with toasted marshmallow.
CRAZY TOWN SOFT PLAY If you’re looking for somewhere to take the kids on Halloween that doesn’t involve you trekking from neighbour to neighbour dressed up in a witch’s hat then this might be just what you’re looking for. Crazy Town Aintree soft play centre on Vesty Road is hosting its annual Halloween Party on 31 October from 4.30pm until 7.30pm. There will be spooky characters, face painting, a DJ and a raffle for the kids while the Cosy Lounge bar will be open for parents. Tickets are £15.95 per child and two adults are allowed in per child. Additional adults will pay £2.95 each.
GHETTO GOLF Sports and bad weather don’t usually make a great match but thankfully that’s not an issue for Liverpool attraction Ghetto Golf. Situated in Cains Brewery Village, the venue brings a rock and roll twist to traditional crazy golf with great music, a well-stocked bar and an out of this world golf course. Make a day of it by heading to the venue’s year round outdoor cocktail bar and barbecue, Birdies after your game. The bar has had a seasonal makeover so it’s the perfect place for a cosy tipple.
WAKE THE DEAD PARADE Nothing says autumn like Halloween, and nothing says Halloween like the fantastic Wake the Dead parade. The carnival of noise, led by dance troupe Katumba, will take over Bold Street and make its way through the city centre on 28 October. If last year’s event is anything to go by it’s a spectacle not to be missed! The event is free to attend and starts at 8pm.
THE MONRO The city has no shortage of restaurants so when it comes to making a pit stop during a shopping spree or refuelling after a long walk you’re spoilt for choice. While Liverpool ONE and Allerton Road may be awash with fantastic eateries offering every type of cuisine you could think of, our number one choice during the colder months is tucked up on Duke Street, just out of the city centre. The Monro is a gorgeous gastro pub with an intimate atmosphere, roaring fires and a fabulous menu. Tuck into hearty favourites such as the Real Lake District Cumberland sausage and mash, caramelised onions, curly kale and spicy mustard. You’ll thank us later.
