With research from Halifax suggesting that four out of five people expect to start their search for a home online, Lovell has spent the last 12 months creating a new website offering a faster way to find the right property. It's recent auction which took place on the September 6 took its total proceeds for the year so far to over £22,000,000 across five auctions – more than it generated across the whole year in 2010 and 2011.

Eight lots were withdrawn, ten sold prior and a further twenty five then sold in the room taking total proceeds for the auction so far to £2,332,250 with more sales expected to complete post auction. The best selling lot of the day was a vacant residential property located at 52 Galloway Street in Wavertree. But despite having already built a solid reputation in the market, owner Alan Binks says the company

will not be relaxing and letting its past success do the talking. The agency is doing all it can to get its core message – “Willing and able to beat everyone else’s deal” – across, and is starting with the billboard promotion. Alan says: “I’ve been on Allerton road for longer than most of the agents here. The purpose of this new campaign is to let customers know we can and will do them the best deal. Our reputation speaks for itself but we want to make sure

Elbow has come a long way since their first gigs in the pubs of Manchester. With a string of albums and awards under their belt, it’s a wonder the band stays so grounded. Your Move caught up with bassist Pete Turner to talk about Liverpudlian fans, new talent and why being in a band never gets old.

BETHAN WOTTON Elbow have been around since 1990, did you expect the band to still be so successful, 22 years on? It doesn’t really feel like we’ve been together since then. When we got signed in 1998, that’s when we really got together. Obviously we were together right after sixth form but we were called ‘Soft’ then- it doesn’t feel like we were the same. I feel like we really got started when we were signed as Elbow. As for success, you just kind of accept it - it’s like family really, you don’t question it, you just go with it! In that time, you’ve won Brit awards, Ivor Novello awards, the Mercury Music Prize and countless others, which one means most to you? The Mercury Music Prize means the most because it gave us the most attention. With the other awards, there’s a lot of different categories but with the Mercury there’s just one. I’d like to think that we’d still have won the others without it but it was the one that really gave us the most attention and really got us noticed. In the past the band has cited Genesis, Talk Talk and Radiohead amongst its influences. Guy recently confirmed that you’re working on new material. Will those influences still be apparent?

Those influences will always be apparent they’re kind of like a staple diet for us, like your Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits, that sort of spiritual music. I’m also a fan of Yeti Lane (a rock/indie band from Paris) and Beach House at the moment; their stuff is really good. When can we expect to hear the new material? I’m not really sure when the new material will be out. We’ve got about half the album recorded and it’s just really good to be in the studio and recording at the moment. In August you released Dead in the Boot, an album of B Sides and nonalbum tracks. Why did you decide to put them together on an album? It’s an album in its own right. They’re all tracks that have come from when we’ve just been writing a few tunes after a show or we haven’t all agreed to put the track on the album so it never made it on. We had about 40 or 50 to choose from and narrowed it down to about 12, but it’s an album in itself. It stands alone. You’re playing Liverpool in November do you usually get a good reaction from Liverpool fans? Liverpool fans are always great. There’s hardly any distance between Manchester and Liverpool and the people are very similar so it’s just like coming home. The crowd is always great. We played the Liverpool Echo Arena last year; it’s just a great space to play. You mentioned Beach House and Yeti Lane earlier - are there any other new bands that you are impressed with at the moment? Bombay Bicycle Club are just

great guys and great live. We watched them most nights on tour (Bombay Bicycle Club supported Elbow this March on the Australian leg of their tour) and they’re great, quite heavy live and the lads are a good laugh. Finally, after 22 years in the band, do you still get excited going on stage? Definitely. You spend the whole day building up to those 90 minutes on stage and performing. Then you’ve got a few hours afterwards when you’re partying and it just never gets old. It’s always exciting to play, to just be on the stage.

Elbow File Elbow signed to Island Records in 1997 but were dropped in a mass cull when Island was bought out by major label Universal. After releasing several EPs on iconic indie label Ugly Man, the band released its debut album Asleep in the Back on v2 in 2001. Elbow moved to Fiction records in 2006. The band has released seven albums and several EPs.
