Taylor Wimpey joins First Time Buyer Show Homebuilder Taylor Wimpey is the latest big name to announce its attendance at the First Time Buyer Show 2013. Now in its fourth year, the show is being held in the BT Convention Centre and boasts an array of exhibitors including a number of independent financial advisors, solicitors and mortgage lenders. ABODE EXPANDS Abode has continued its phenomenal growth by acquiring Edward & Brazier estate agents. Abode, which launched in Allerton last year following the success of its flagship Crosby branch bought the business after being approached by Ed Crummey, residential partner at Edward & Brazier. David Burns, director of Abode, says: “He approached us and only us as we were clearly doing things right in Crosby. We got all his sales and managed lettings stock. He wanted to pass his customers across to an agent that cares, and for him we were the only choice”. Abode retained several members of Edwards & Brazier staff for its letting department so its property management team has expanded and there are now 10 people in its lettings headquarters in Crosby. Its Crosby sales team recently recruited Amber Purcell from Michael Moon and the firm took another two new starters in Allerton, which has doubled in size in terms of staff within six months. The company now manages 250 properties. “We are looking to acquire more agents so if anyone interested in selling we are interested in buying,” says David.
Next PIN meeting a sell out The next Liverpool Property Investors Network (pin) meeting is expected to be a sell out, organisers say. Lloyds TSB will give a presentation at the event on how it can help local property investors grow its portfolios over the next 12
months. The bank was the only commercial lender in 2012 to have positive lending growth and it is keen to lend to Liverpool investors. The Liverpool pin meeting, which is held on the fourth Thursday of the month, is designed for local property
investors to network with other local investors, build up their personal contacts and keep up to date with any changes in the market or latest investment strategies. Smith and Sons sees 75% sales at first 2013 auction
Become a property guardian A nationwide firm is protecting vacant properties in Liverpool whilst offering an alternative for tenants looking for cheap accommodation in the city.

Smith and Sons has revealed strong sales figures for its first auction of 2013, with a 75% success rate. With 22 lots available, auctioneer Chris Johnson, managed a packed room keen to bid on a varied and interesting catalogue, resulting in £1.3million in sales. On offer were a range of vacant residential properties for refurbishment, commercial and residential investments and vacant commercial buildings. In total, 15 of the 22 lots were sold with two being withdrawn prior, resulting in a 75% success rate.
Star attractions on the day included a cottage style property in Higher Bebington needing refurbishment but ideal as an investment property, two empty houses in Liverpool again in need of refurbishment, and a residential investment in Birkenhead giving a yield in excess of 15%. Auctioneer Chris Johnson says: “This auction was a good result for us showing some positive signs for 2013 and a higher level of interest pre-auction than was seen last year. The number of people in the room demonstrated renewed interest in the property market and we hope this will gather further momentum through the year.
“This successful sale shows the benefits to both vendors and purchasers of the auction process. Some excellent results were achieved and people in need of quick sales at realistic prices should seriously consider the auction route. New approach proves popular with landlords Estate and letting agent Karl Tatler has extended its late night opening after receiving a positive response from its landlords and tenants. The agent, which has a lettings operation covering Wirral and Liverpool, says by opening every day and staying open until late on weekdays it can give its landlords maximum service. Star choreographer Miguel Doforo has showcased his Liverpool dance company’s moves to Michael Jackson, Kate Middleton and Prince William to name just a few. Your Move caught up with the owner of MD Productions, from Childwall to talk about the company’s latest shows, why Britain and Liverpool have got talent and how Simon Cowell wanted to ‘bottle the company’s passion’.

I left school with no qualifications and I always wanted to do something in performing arts but there was nowhere I could do that when I was young. I’ve never had a dance lesson in my life and I’m not a formally trained dancer but there was a point when I was unemployed and my New Deal advisor said ‘What do you really want to do?’ and my mum always said to me ‘Why don’t you set up a dance school,’ things went from there. Is it true that the MD Company danced for Michael Jackson? What was he like? I learnt to dance from watching Michael Jackson videos and I’m a massive fan. We’ve performed to his songs on Britain’s Got Talent and then we were asked by his management company on his request to perform at an event called ‘Killer Thriller’ to celebrate 20 years of Thriller. We went down to London and I warned all the kids and parents that we needed to be professional when we met him but that completely went out of the window when he came in the room. There were 80 of us going mad, including my
mum screaming his name. He said that he loved the work that we were doing and told us to keep up with it he said ‘No dream is too big and that I should just keep going,’ and even sent me a letter after the show I couldn’t believe it. He was full of praise for all the dancers and everything we were doing. He spent five hours with us that day in rehearsals and giving us feedback and said me he preferred a raw dance style from the streets like ours. Also we hear that you met Kate and William too – what were they like? I was chosen by the government to be a dance ambassador alongside Arlene Phillips and others we got to go to Windsor Castle to meet William and Kate the week before they got married. They put me up for the night in a room in a tower of the castle and I literally felt like Cinderella. Which is when I started to think how did I actually end up here? Would you go on Britain’s got talent again? Yeah definitely, it’s a brilliant platform. I recommend it to anyone who’s interested in performing arts it’s a great opportunity. Simon Cowell said to us that he wanted to bottle up our passion when he saw us and it’s always great to get his advice. You recently performed at the Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship Awards at St Georges Hall. Why do you think these kinds of events are important? I love things happening in the city and I’m all about
bringing things to Liverpool. Liverpool is full of talent and I want to make it so people don’t have to leave the city to get noticed. St George’s Hall is a fabulous venue and it allows us to give something back to those supporting us. Also, with it being awards for apprentices, it’s all about the young people which I’m really passionate about. • MD productions will perform Miguel’s choreography at ‘Crazy Right Now’ featuring fierce and fabulous dance routines to Beyonce songs at The Epstein Theatre 24 March. March of the Mods comes to Liverpool Liverpool will be rocked by mod culture this month, as the Head of Steam Pub hosts an event in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. The Mod inspired night, organised by Eddie Penny of Modrophonic Group, is the 15th in a series of 17 being held across the county to raise money for the charity.

A new eatery is bringing the taste of the seaside to the Albert Dock. Docklands Fish & Chips has opened on The Colonnades, close to Tate Liverpool. Local boxer Kevin Satchell is celebrating after successfully defending his British flyweight title. Kevin, who is sponsored by Paul Crowley & Co Solicitors, faced Belfast’s Luke Wilton in the bout on February 23 and defeated his opponent in 12 rounds Kevin says: “I am really happy to have won, it was one of the hardest fights I have ever fought. Luke pushed me to 12 rounds, I’ve never gone to 12 rounds before so it was tough but it was amazing to win especially in front of such a big crowd.” Kevin will now defend his title twice more before he fights for the European flyweight title.

rasco Lounge at Mann Island has managed to create a lived-in French café feel, despite being a new addition to Liverpool’s waterfront. With mismatched wooden chairs and lampshades, cushions and walls lined with vintage wallpaper and midcentury modern pictures it looks like a country café in post war France. I met Alison Gittins, sales and marketing co-ordinator at HomesHub, part of the Plus Dane group, for a relaxed lunch break in the run up to the First Time Buyers Show she has been organising for the past few months. “This is our fourth show and we are building on the success of the past years,” she says. “The feedback has always been positive with guests confirming that they would definitely recommend the show to a friend.” Alison chatted about the event, which takes place on Saturday March 23 at the Echo
Arena, over lunch; she chose three tapas dishes and I went for the fishfinger sandwich. The choice at Brasco is varied, with all day brunch dishes, burgers, paninis and a specials menu (each priced around £9.00) that, on the day we visited, included Devon oak smoked pollock with risotto, and pork belly with salt baked beetroot. Stressing how helpful the event can be to people who have never bought a property before and may be intimidated by much of the jargon surrounding the property market she says: “Everything is under one roof at the show. We have financial advisers, conveyancing solicitors, mortgage advisers and developers all on hand to chat to. “There is no hard sell either, which we feel is important, as it allows guests to just browse and research as much as they need to know. We are delighted to have IKEA as one of our sponsors too,

as their stand is always full of goodies and the opportunity to win a £1,000 voucher this year in one of their competitions.” Alison highlighted the halloumi as her favourite of the tapas dishes, served in a really tasty sauce, and she thought that the overall presentation of the three tapas served together on a long plate made it even more appetising. My fishfingers were oversized home made breaded pieces of “sustainable white fish” wedged between two pieces of buttered white bread and served with perfectly cooked chips. So good was the food that we that we couldn’t manage a dessert, despite the old fashioned puddings menu offering such delights as spotted dick and knickerbocker glory. Alison believes that there are misconceptions surrounding the property market and that first time buyers would really benefit from learning about the affordable schemes and alternatives to renting available. She says: “As an example, people get confused about the term ‘shared ownership’ and
think it must be something to do with sharing a home, rather than it being about how you fund that initial mortgage and your stake in the property.” Contrary to news reports about the scarcity of mortgages and the high deposits now required she pointed to schemes whereby buyers may only need a 5% cash deposit. Plus Dane’s ethos is sustainable neighbourhoods with choice of tenure and choice of home. Alison thinks that for many people who are either first-time buyers, or at a change in their life (perhaps following a relationship breakdown or career move) that now is a good time to buy. “We recognise that there is not as much affordable rental opportunity as there once was,” she says, “and with such low interest rates we can really help people get a foot onto the housing ladder.” Visit The First Time Buyers Show on Saturday 23 March at The BT Convention Centre, Liverpool Echo Arena from 10am - 4pm. ore than 100 giant Easter eggs arrived in Liverpool ONE on the 27 February for a five-day stay, as part of ‘The Lindt Big Egg Hunt’. The eggs will be touring the UK and are returning to London in time for Easter. The pretty and patterned eggs were dotted around Liverpool ONE for eager egg hunters to go and find them and with the daily handing out of delicious Lindt chocolate to participants of the hunt, there was no excuse not to get involved! All the money raised will be going directly to ‘Action for Children’ who help over 250,000 people a year.
