Veterinarians and Friends Gather for Annual MVTRA Trail Ride

The Missouri Veterinary Trail Riders Association (MVTRA) hosted their annual continuing education and trail ride on September 25-27, 2020 at Panther Creek Campground, Tuscumbia, Mo. The Missouri Veterinary Trail Riders Association (MVTRA) is a special interest group of the MVMA membership. The group has met annually since 2012 during the last weekend of September. Thanks to generous sponsorships from Merck, and MWI-Amerisource Bergen, the event met an all-time high in attendance. Over 40 veterinarians, practice staff and guests enjoyed the weekend of trail riding, camping, campfire suppers and continuing education. Continuing education topics included: “New Insights to Help Address Practical Challenges Associated With EPM”, Dr. Craig Barnett, Merck Animal Health; “Keeping Veterinary Practice Interesting”, Dr. Marc Markway, Markway Veterinary Service; and “The Do’s and Don’t of Standing Equine Dental Extractions”, Dr. Allison LaCarrubba. Three hours of continuing education was approved for attendees by the MVMA Academy. The MVTRA officers include, Dr. Laura Moon, Moberly, Mo. president; Dr. Chelsey Bell, New Bloomfield Mo., vice president; Dr. Mary Lamar, Rocheport, Mo., treasurer and Mrs. Julie Braun, Jefferson City, Mo., secretary. The next Veterinary Continuing Education Trail Ride is scheduled for Riders gather for afternoon continuing education. October 8-10, 2021. The association’s treasurer, Dr. Mary Lamar, noted “We promise many more unique continuing education events that are family friendly, fun, cost effective and best of all, a chance to relax outdoors with your horses and colleagues”.
