Message from the Department: We are excited to announce that the construction of the Wentzville Rec Center (WREC) is underway, starting with the groundbreaking that occurred on March 24, 2021! Our growing community needs a place where we all can come together to get fit, learn something new or relax poolside. We are working hard to create a center that will encompass the varying needs of our community while providing recreational programs for youth, families and seniors alike. We have designed a facility that is universally accessible, providing a space for community health, fitness and wellness programs to improve the quality of life for Wentzville residents. The WREC will be operationally, environmentally and economically sustainable, minimizing water, energy and natural resource consumption and utilizing modern building systems and technologies. For progress updates and frequently asked questions about the WREC, please visit www.wentzvillemo.gov/WREC. Speaking of new, the “new normal” has required us to stay on our toes and get creative so we can continue to deliver quality programs for all to enjoy. We adapted our annual Egg Hunt to use personal Easter egg fields, had the Easter Bunny visit residents at their homes and provided virtual options to popular classes and activities. While we look forward to a future where we ALL can gather freely in one space, we are constantly working to prioritize the health and safety of our community and still offer our traditional events. We are excited to host our annual Wentzville Days Fair and Music Festival this May, as well as Liberty Fest this summer, however, to accommodate for health and safety concerns, these events may look a little different from years past. Although last year was challenging, it has allowed us to grow as a community, become more creative with our programs and make sure you can still have an exceptional experience as we continue to adapt to these unprecedented times. Circumstances may require programs to change and we want our community to be able to stay up-to-date with the new and exciting programs we offer. To see what is available, please visit our Fun Times magazine online at www.wentzvillemo.gov/funtimes or sign up for our monthly Wentzville Parks and Recreation eNewsletter at www.wentzvillemo.gov/WPRenewsletter. We also encourage you to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to say "hello" and see what is happening in your community. We look forward to seeing you in the parks!

Swim Lessons Choosing the right swim lesson is the first step in your child's aquatic education. It is important to select lessons that provide equal amounts of new challenges and old favorites. 1: Use the flow chart below to identify the swim level that best matches your child's swimming skill set. 2: On the next page, select the best day and time that work for your busy schedule.

Is your child over 3 years old?

Is your child less than 5 years old?

Can your child go underwater independently and back float?

Can your child back float independently and front crawl 10 yards independently?

Does your child know all of the basic strokes and can they perform them with little help? (front crawl, backstroke, breast stroke, side stroke, dolphin kick)

Can your child perform a basic dive off the side of the pool and perform basic strokes independently?

Unless otherwise indicated, all swim lesson sessions include eight, 40-minute classes. M-TH sessions meet four times a week for two weeks, while M/W and TU/TH sessions meet twice a week for four weeks. *JUN 1 session is "Shiver Swim" and only offered at night. These sessions are priced for seven days, instead of eight because May 31 is a holiday. **No evening classes on JUN 17. These sessions are priced for seven days, instead of eight.

Rec Premier Soccer (Ages 6-14)

We are proud to announce our partnership with the City of O’Fallon in developing a more competitive soccer playing experience. Additionally, we have secured the services of CORE Soccer Training Director, Jamie Swanner, and his qualified staff to oversee and run this program. This new Rec Premier Soccer program will be based on true small 4v4 game play with technical development along with the tactical awareness needed for the individual player. We will train on a specific skill each week for the first 15 minutes, then divide up for a two-20-minute-half 4v4 game. Week one, we will introduce the 4v4 format as well as train. Weeks two through seven we will follow a progressive skillenhancement program, then game play. We recommend players stay on their existing recreational league teams and utilize this league as a player-enhancement program. Player groupings may be mixed depending on skill level and gender. Each player will receive two jerseys and a sack pack in addition to training and game play. The location will alternate weeks between Heartland Park in Wentzville and Dames Park in O’Fallon. This seven-week program will begin on AUG 27 and continue on Friday nights. There will be two training sessions. Participants will be split into groups based on age. One group will start at 6P and the other group will start at 7P. Participants will be notified before the program starts as to which group they are in.
