A Message from the General Manager Dear Members,
DON SMITH
A few weeks ago, I met one of my sons in Utah for a few days of skiing. It was the first extended time I’d spent away from Myers Park since you welcomed me into your community last June. Although my son scolded me for working on several occasions, the fresh air and deep powder did offer a valuable opportunity to catch my breath and reflect on my first nine months at MPCC.
GM/COO
With that time and space to think, I came away amazed by all that’s been accomplished thus far. It also made me more excited than ever about where all of us, by continuing to work together, can take our Club in the near future and beyond. The commitment we’ve made to fostering an exceptional member experience is evidenced by our recent recognition from BoardRoom magazine as a recipient of its prestigious Distinguished Club award. I share this news not to pat myself (or my team) on the back; instead, I do so as an objective measure of the great progress we’re making together. More tangible signs of that progress can be seen in the continued transformation of our Clubhouse. Case in point, we are getting close to being able to offer hard hat tours. These tours will begin late this month for Board and select committee members, and then open up to the general membership. We will share days and times for these opportunities, along with signup details, very soon. Construction to date has remained on-time and on-budget. But as we enter the homestretch on phase one, we’re keenly aware that due to the current realities of the global economic climate, some hiccups may still occur. Please know that before shovels hit the ground, we planned for potential supply chain issues and associated cost increases. That said, even the best plans sometimes require minor adjustments. Finally, as the grass begins to green up, we were excited to share our new partnership with renowned architect Andrew Green in a recent golf update. He will lead a project beginning in mid-June to enhance the playability and aesthetics of the first, 10th and 18th holes of our golf course, while also enhancing our practice putting green. Andrew’s work is scheduled to be completed and playable in early September. Shortly thereafter, we will have the honor of hosting the 2022 Junior Presidents Cup, September 19-20. Founded in 2017 and supported by the PGA Tour and American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), the Junior Presidents Cup will kick off a week-long celebration of golf in Charlotte that culminates in the Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club. The Junior Presidents Cup is a two-day, team match-play competition featuring 24 of the world’s top junior boys – 12 from the United States and 12 from around the world, excluding Europe. Later this summer, we’ll share more information about the event schedule and how you can join your fellow members to watch professional golf’s stars of tomorrow. With our skis now put away for the season, it’s time to turn our collective attention to welcomed warmer temperatures and kicking off the busy season at The Park. As always, I am at your service and remain incredibly energized about the future of our special community. Thank you, Don 2 The Clubber | April 2022
