A Message from Your Board of Directors First Quarter 2022 Dear members, It has been nearly 20 years since I first had the opportunity to enjoy the amenities at our wonderful Club. Back then, I can assure you that I had no desire or aspiration to be the President. I did appreciate MPCC and respected the work of the President and Board as important and meaningful. But I had other priorities at that time, namely raising a family and sustaining a family business. What I did not appreciate then is what I now realize sets Myers Park apart from other places. If I had to pick a specific moment for this epiphany, it occurred when I started attending morning boot-camp sessions at the fitness center. Thanks to those classes I, like never before, connected with people who would eventually become lifelong friends. The special bonds forged during those pre-dawn workouts, and in other opportunities since, opened my eyes to what makes our Club truly “different.” In my mind, it’s undoubtedly the quality, character and kindness of the people who comprise our community. And when I say “community” it includes both members and staff. I trust many of you also share and are grateful for similar relationships that originated and grew at our Club. These connections we share are why I am so honored to serve as your President for 2022. With that introduction, I’d like to offer some updates from the Board on where we are and where we’re headed in the coming months. After going through the orientation process, our four new Board members – Beth Pence, David Deterding, Greg Hackworth and David McClure – are immersing themselves in their roles and how these roles relate to the governance of our Club. Once again, I am so thankful to them for volunteering their hard-earned free time in service to us all. Beyond onboarding of these new members, the Board is also focused on helping the Club’s 13 committees establish their 2022 goals. Depending on the committee, some goals are annual in nature, while others focus on an extended timeframe. Please know our strategic planning committee is thinking through the longer-range challenges we face, such as managing the size of our membership, parking at the Club and other facility-use opportunities. Tennis, fitness and golf operations have enjoyed a strong start to the year. Tennis courts have been full and the popularity of pickleball continues. Traffic at the fitness center has been high and we are excited to have extended our partnership with L&L Fitness. And our golf enthusiasts are surely looking forward to next month’s Member-Member. Speaking of golf, our course will be undergoing some renovations beginning in late spring. Renowned architect Andrew Green, who of late has worked at several highprofile clubs around the country, has been retained for the project. We will share further specifics on timing and the holes that will be impacted in the coming weeks. Turning to another project, the Clubhouse work continues to make great progress. While the construction market is challenging, we have approximately 70 workers on property every day who are doing their part to ensure we continue to remain on time and within budget. The pool will reopen in May with a newly renovated Shark Shack, and September is still targeted for the opening of our new tavern, family dining and enhanced outdoor spaces. We are amazed by the structure’s continued transformation as the blueprints we have pored over for years become reality. The Board greatly appreciates your patience as the Clubhouse renovations continue. During this time of transition, we ask that you please continue to show your gratitude for our talented and hard-working staff whenever possible. As I noted above, they are integral to the unique community we have cultivated, and their dedication to providing a rewarding membership experience, even amid a construction zone, is one of our Club’s greatest assets! We all have a role to play in ensuring Myers Park remains a special place for its next 100 years – that legacy is treasured and one the Board and I are driven to uphold. To that end, we want to continue to hear from you as we strive to make the Club experience even better. We invite you to please submit any questions and / or comments you may have to board@myersparkcc.com. Our community has a momentous year ahead of it, one that promises to bring us the opportunity to grow together. I am honored to serve our membership and look forward to seeing you around the Club, maybe even at a morning workout session! Sincerely, Hans Warren 2022 President
