DIGITAL EDITION: JANUARY 2021

A Letter from the President Dear fellow MPCC members, As 2020 comes to a close, I want to share that it has been an honor and privilege to serve as your President this year. This time last year, no one could have imagined the impact that COVID-19 would have on the day to day operations of a private club. Every area of the Club was forced to examine new policies, procedures and offerings. Our management team continued to place membership satisfaction as their top priority while also balancing the health and safety of our employees and members. Not an easy task. Hard decisions were made to manage costs through this period. As a result, we are proud to say we expect our Club will meet or exceed budget for the year. I am grateful to have worked with such a competent, innovative staff and Board while navigating the challenges of this year. Importantly, our Club continues to be vibrant and healthy. Even through the challenges of this year, new member interest has continued at a level equal or exceeding recent years. We continue to have over 100 applicants on our wait list. As our Club begins its Centennial year in 2021, I am convinced that MPCC will continue its strong legacy for future generations. Again, many thanks for your trust and support in leading our special Club. Wishing you and your family a healthy, happy new year. Gratefully, Meredith

MYERS PARK COUNTRY CLUB

EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR 2020

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK

MARIO TRUJILLO CHEF DE CUISINE

My friend and fellow chef, Mario Trujillo, has thrived during his tenure here at MPCC, moving up from line cook to demi chef, then sous chef, and to his current position of Chef de Cuisine. During his time here, he has successfully run the Tavern’s culinary operation, he led the efforts to reopen a fine dining operation here at the club with the Byron Nelson rollout, and is now responsible for the upstairs culinary operation to include all banquet production. 2020 has been a difficult year for many, but Chef Mario rose to meet the challenge. At the outset of the pandemic, Chef Mario was tasked with coordinating with local charities who could benefit from our leftover takeout meals on a regular basis. Excess product was distributed three days per week to the Harvest Center of Charlotte, which feeds and houses vulnerable members of the population. Product was distributed two days per week to Big Rig Kids, who offer shelter to women and children from abusive situations. Product was also delivered one day per week to Charlotte Rescue Mission, which aids individuals recovering from substance abuse issues. The combination of Mario’s efforts with these charities, as well as the teams’ work in the community with local farmers garnered national recognition by Ford Motor Company in April in an online campaign which highlighted people who were working to improve their community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Chef Mario’s leadership through 2020 not only provided comfort to our club’s membership, but also helped to give our culinary team a renewed sense of purpose when our dining rooms closed, and his actions benefitted the most vulnerable members of our community when they needed help the most. We congratulate you and thank you for your skills and service. Chef Scott Craig
