New Collection from Mr. Bigglesworthy – Dreams and Abstractions Opens 2 March, 2017 At the late, hazy end of the summer season, Mr. Bigglesworthy presents a new collection ‘Dreams and Abstractions’. The design store offers new pieces for casual living with layered materials and organic forms. Tapper House, Vlad Cacala’s 1957 modernist masterpiece in Kohimarama was the perfect location to showcase the collection. Dan and Emma Eagle have known the owners of this treasured architectural home for several years and when they considered selling it, the couple couldn’t miss the opportunity for photography. With his European upbringing and training from Bauhaus mentors, it’s easy to see why Vlad Cacala’s modernist buildings perfectly capture the international style of architecture. Cacala fled his native city of Prague in 1948, arriving in New Zealand in 1952. He quickly set about introducing the conservative New Zealand public to some of the most ground-breaking modernist architecture of the time. “For this collection we have brought together pieces which exhibit a sense of optimism”, say the Eagles. “Bold 1960s curves, together with elegant 1950s lines and thoughtful detailing. We look for simplicity that’s enduring – in both the design and manufacture”.
