New Collection from Mr. Bigglesworthy – Neon Flash Opens 20 August, 2016 Mr. Bigglesworthy shifts focus towards a new decade with the launch of new collection ‘Neon Flash’. The Memphis movement of the 1980s offers a starting point for the collection, with its fresh perspective on design and interiors that are still avant-garde today. With a bold break from tradition, Memphis design was defined by a playful irreverence, strong geometric motifs and often clashing, saturated colours. It’s been a strong direction to reemerge at recent Milan design fairs, highlighted by the striking selection of designs from the ringleader of Memphis design, Ettore Sottsass for Kartell. Dan and Emma of Mr. Bigglesworthy have been watching the rise 1980s design with interest. This collection sees a curated selection of characterful postmodern pieces by noted designers including Vico Magistretti, Burkhard Vogtherr for Arflex, Ettore Sottsass for Kartell and Rodolfo Bonetto for iGuzzini. These pieces are supported and complemented by prominent names of other periods - De Sede, Percival Lafer, Eames, Bertoia and Plycraft along with a suite of key international pieces. Highlights include a deluxe marble top Archie Shine sideboard by Robert Heritage in rosewood, a rare Ecuadorian rocking chair from Angel Pazmino and an impressive Merrow Associates bar cart in chrome steel and rosewood. These sit alongside prominent Danish and American designs that defined the mid-20th century. OPENING EVENT Join the team at Mr. Bigglesworthy at the Gallery for the collection opening.
