we can still bring you the same great race coverage as before. Watch for more racer interviews and human interest type stories in our pages, and please rely on our website and Facebook pages for the more week to week race coverage. As always, we value your input, so please stay in touch. We are also looking for a part-time editor to tag along with me and begin to learn the business. My duties are many, and I could use a partner to help get this all done. If you know of anyone who may have any interest in working in the industry, please have them fill out an application at www. engleonline.com. Photo and writing experience is desired, along with a general knowledge of the local racing scene. Good people skills and an outgoing personality will make it a breeze. So, here we go full steam ahead into a new racing season. Only time will tell what awesome battles we’ll find at the local tracks, and the qualifiers are right around the corner. Remember to watch our website and Facebook pages, and we’ll see you at the track. Jim Bull, MRA Editor

They say time goes by faster the older you get. The only thing that excites me about that truth is that it includes winter. I know as I’m writing this that it will probably come back to haunt me as it’s only mid-January. I can say, however, that we are over the hump, and with Motorama right around the corner I know that it’s all downhill from here (winter, that is, not the racing). Anyway, welcome back, race fans. I’m excited as we roll into a new year of racing here in the area. The new schedules are coming out, and before you know it we will be back at the tracks. You can take a look at the upcoming event schedule in this issue and start to make your plans for the upcoming season. We will again be covering the MDRA Series races along with some local flat track and hare scrambles racing. Who knows, maybe we’ll even throw in an enduro or two just for fun. One thing that I have to inform you about is our print schedule. I know that you all are used to getting your copy of MRA in the mail 10 times a year. For 2013 we have made the decision to print 6 issues a year beginning with this February issue, then printing every other month after that. It just makes it easier for everyone involved, and

Hello Race Fans

6 Photos By: Jim Bull and Rob Harris The MDRA 6 and 7 Series held their respective banquets in early November in Shippensburg, PA. Some racers chose one series or the other, while others competed in both. Here find a list of champions from both series and some random awards banquet shots. Some of the big winners included Jeremy Cook, who took home six expert class wins, and Brad Stepp, who won four age class brackets, with numerous others grabbing double class wins. The series continues on in 2013, and you can find their new schedule elsewhere in our pages. I would like to thank the Yentzer Family along with the other promoters in the series and the racers who make it all happen. We’ll see you all out at the track in the new year.

– Jude Smerlick

We caught up with Jude Smerlick at this year’s MDRA 6 Awards Banquet. This summer was the first I took notice to this young racer, even though he has been racing for three years now. The 50 classes are tough because not only do you have to pay attention to what’s going on out on the track, you have to watch for their parents off the track. Talk about a good way to get run over, lol. Anyhow, Jude raced in both the 50 Oil and the 50 (4-6) classes this year, and he won both by quite a margin. I had the pleasure of sitting with him and his family at the banquet this year, and he is quite the impressive young man—well mannered, and he loves to ride his dirt bikes, cast and all. Yes, he decided to fall down and break his arm or his wrist toward the end of the season, and if I remember correctly he had to compete that way for a round or two also. From the mouth of the racer, “But dad, I need those points.” Congrats to Jude on his well-run season, and keep an eye out for the #6 this year racing in the MDRA 6 Series.

Christopher Lee Klinefelter, 27, of Reisterstown, Md., died unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, due to injuries received in a vehicle accident. Klinefelter was a local D6 & D7 expert flat track rider. He raced the AMA Grand National series for a couple years with very respectable finishes. He shone on all styles of tracks, not specializing in one track or another, but being a very versatile rider. His first race was when he was 7 years old at the Timonium Indoors. That is where his last race was as well. He passed away hours after the indoor races. Chris worked in the motorcycle industry almost his whole life as well and was currently employed at Ellicott City Motorsports. A few memories from some of Chris’ close friends: Jason Isennock #30s - From his generosity and willingness to help anyone in need to his off-the-wall sense of humor and contagious laugh that would make anyone smile, once you met Chris Klinefelter the chances of you forgetting him were slim to none. He always had a smile on his face and lived life to the fullest. When it came to racing, he was one of the guys you always looked forward to racing with. He would race you hard and clean but if you gave him an inch you could almost guarantee he would do his best to make it a foot. He was one of a kind, will be missed very much and will never be forgotten. Shawn Baer #32 - Chris was one of a kind. Nothing ever fazed him. He lived for today, not forgetting the fact that he had dreams and goals in his mind that he was always working for. He brought so much energy to everything and everyone. The most positive, hard working, fun, honest, loyal, caring, and outgoing friend anyone could ever ask for. He never wanted anything in return. When it came to racing, he was someone you knew you could race hard, and he was always clean no matter what. This man will always be a huge part of who I’ve become and definitely has earned a spot for life in my heart as my best friend. I will always miss his laugh, smile, and willingness of being available to help at anytime no matter what. He is a true role model to so many! Mike Poe #83s - He was a great guy on and off the racetrack. He always had a smile on his face that was contagious. A great friend that would do anything to help anyone. Cory Texter #65 - Chris Klinefelter. Man, what can I say about Chris? Chris has been a close friend of mine since I started racing. He was a very approachable person right from the start. So much talent on a motorcycle. He was fast on pretty much anything he rode, and he always had fun at the track. A great sense of humor and a real class act. Chasing him when I first turned local expert helped develop me into the rider I am today. I have learned so many things from Chris, and I will miss racing with him and hanging out with him away from the track forever. Len Breech - While Chris had not competed regularly on the District 6 & 7 flat track stops over the past few seasons, his smiling face was a fixture at the Timonium races, either at the outdoor in the Pony Ring or at the Indoors in the Cow Palace. In the last few years, he was usually riding a buddy’s machine, not really a problem with the popular rider. His ‘races’ (actually more like power sliding exhibitions) with Jason Isennock on their Triumphs at the Pony Ring are legendary. Afterwards they would usually split the combined purse as one would lead off two and the other off four. After a race, no matter where he finished, he was always smiling and laughing, especially if he was battling with close buddies Isennock, Nick Henderson or Mike Poe. While he hadn’t raced a lot, he did win the 450 class at the opening race on December 8 and finished second on the 15th.

– Jeremy Cook

This past off season we caught up with Jeremy Cook to talk about his most recent achievements and his plans for the upcoming season. It is almost a milestone, as I have watched Cook ride as an expert for just over 10 years now. I remember coming back to the racing scene in the early 2000s after being away from it for about 7 or 8 years and here was this guy named Cook at the top of the expert division in District 6. Now, 10 years later, he is still at it, and his speed is as good as ever. I love watching Jeremy race because every time he catches that checkered flag you get that fist pump like it was his first win ever. I caught up with him at a banquet this winter, and I knew I wanted to recognize him. Here on the verge of turning 30 years old he knocks down six class championships in 2012 and is talking about a Loretta’s run in 2013. He has had his Pro card over the years and still manages to thrill as you watch him compete. Also new for 2013, he is ramping up his MX School and is available to train you or your racer on how to be a champion. Thanks, Jeremy, for the memories, and we look forward to you creating many more. RACER REVIEW

MRA: So I’ve known both of you guys for quite some time now, and I see you realizing a dream come true. I know you haven’t been at it long, but can you tell our readers how it feels to be here today. Rocket: Unreal. It’s hard to describe in words our excitement to be able to work in the motocross industry and to give back to a sport that we both love. MRA: That’s great. I know both of you guys have been longtime riders and racers; do you both still ride? Rocket: Yes, occasionally. We also ride the trails with ATVs. MRA: How about building or maintaining racetracks. Is there any past experience there? Rocket: Yes, we both have small tracks at our houses. MRA: Any racing in the plans for either of you, or do you think you’ll be too busy come race day? Rocket: I’m sure we’ll be busy on race day. It’s our time to support and enjoy the racers. MRA: Do you see any changes from past years’ schedules or is the plan the same? A few races each year and open practice on the weekends? Rocket: For now, same race schedule and open practices on weekends. Watch the Web page or Friend us on Facebook.

MRA: That’s great. And practices, how often to you plan on offering open practice days? Rocket: Saturdays and Sundays. Weather permitting. Watch the Web page or FB. MRA: Any new plans for the track or facility, or is it business as usual? Rocket: This year plans are as usual. Future, plans are in the works…. MRA: What series are you involved with, and do you see any changes coming there? Rocket: We’re excited to be in the MDRA 6 and 7 series, Masters of Motocross, ARMA Hare Scrambles and Allegheny Cup. MRA: Any other plans you want to let us in on or should we just wait and see for ourselves? Rocket: First thing is to properly manage the track and learn the business from race to race. MRA: Ok guys, we wish you both the best. What’s that date for your race opener this year? Rocket: April 28, MDRA 6, Bikes. Hope to see you all out here. MRA: Ok, great. Thanks for your time, and we’ll see you then. Rocket: Jim, we really appreciate your support as we embark on this dream of a lifetime. We’d also like to thank Mark and Shelly Carlton for having the vision to get Rocket started, for helping us through the transition of us taking the reins and any future help I’m sure they’ll provide. You guys are great, and we thank you for it.

Congratulations and welcome to Mike Lupey and Bill Donnelly, new owners of Rocket Raceway. The two acquired the track from the Carltons last fall and are very excited about the coming season. At this point, I’d also like to thank Mark and Shelly Carlton and their entire family for making Rocket what it is today. If you don’t know the history, they fought tooth and nail and never gave in to get Rocket on the map. Located right on the edge of three districts, they struggled early on, but they gave the riders a good program, and the facility grew to what it is today. The new owners plan to build on that hard work and dedication and hope to take the facility to the next level. We wish the Carltons the best in whatever endeavors they move onto, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you even see them hanging around the track on a race day. I caught up with the new guys this off-season, and here is what they had to say about their new endeavor.

Amped Apparel

Girls Just Wanna Ride

MRA caught up this month with former motocross racer and entrepreneur Adam Sinz. Sinz is celebrating the fourth anniversary of his action sports apparel line, and we wanted to see what was coming in the new year.

By: Kelsey Green

MRA: So, tell us a little bit about the history of Amped Apparel.

Adam (Amped): The idea of Amped Apparel was

developed when I was 15 years old. Graphic design always interested me, and when I was 16 years old I was given the opportunity to design a logo for a local skate shop to use on T-shirts. It was at that very moment I decided that I could do the exact same thing and design T-shirts with artwork that represented my life. After months of finalizing a plan, I took the first few shirts to my high school and started to spread the word.

MRA: How long has Amped Apparel been in existence, and did you expect to get this far? Adam (Amped): Amped Apparel was founded in 2008, but like many new brands or products it didn’t really take off until about a year later. I sold a decent amount of items to friends mostly, which is great and all, but the way to really get noticed is when you start selling to people that you do not know. MRA: What kind of apparel and products do you offer to your customers? Adam (Amped): We release new items throughout the entire year, including a collection for

every season. Currently, our winter line consists of hoodies, crew necks, long sleeve tees and more. The Amped brand also features a full line of eyewear, tees, hats, socks, girls’ clothing and youth items. We have it all!

MRA: You have a pretty successful racing background; tell us about the involvement Amped Apparel has with the racing community. Adam (Amped): Amped Apparel has always been a sport and lifestyle clothing brand

simply because that is what I enjoy doing. When you are “Amped,” you are pumped, excited, energetic etc. Riders and fans of action sports want to wear the brands that represent their lifestyle, and that is exactly what Amped symbolizes. My motocross career has really helped as an outlet in getting the word of mouth of my brand out there. Each year, the Amped crew embarks on a tour (previously called Party with the Pros Tour) that includes stops at many motocross events across the country.

MRA: Where can we find your apparel? Adam (Amped): The entire Amped line can be purchased through our online retail shop.

www.AMPEDAPPAREL.com. Amped can also be purchased at select retail locations that can be found on our website.

MRA: What are your future plans with the company?

Adam (Amped): I don’t want to spill all the beans on this one, but we have a ton of new product, events, and endorsement deals in the works. In the summer of 2013 we will also be headed on a four-month-long tour called the Party with the Pros Sophomore Tour. MRA: Ok, cool. Well congratulations on your success, and

we wish you the best in the future.

Adam (Amped): I want to send a huge shout out to MRA

for this interview. It was a pleasure working with you, as always, and we are thankful for the opportunity. To all the fans, make sure you visit us on the web at www.AMPEDAPPAREL. com and follow us on our social networks to get in on the conversation. Twitter--@AmpedApparel and Instagram @ AmpedApparel

I was cleaning my room one day, going through old pictures, and I came across a shot from 2007. It was a picture of about 18 girls dressed in motocross attire. There were no adults, mostly adolescent girls. When I took a closer look at each girl, I recognized them. This picture was from the very first Girls Just Wanna Ride Event! Nearly seven years have gone by since that photo was taken, and all of those girls have grown up and matured. Most of them are still active participants in the sport of motocross. This alone is the motivating factor that keeps me planning the event year after year. Some of my favorite things about planning this annual event are seeing the girls advance in their skills. In recent years the event has been increasing in attendance. A specific group of 5-6 girls stands out to me, they get together and travel several hours to come to our event. As their truck pulls in, I see many smiling faces and I hear the laughter from a vehicle that is absolutely packed to maximum capacity with girls coming to ride. During every event, I take mental notes throughout the day on the girls’ reactions to certain stations, events, and other pieces to the day’s program, and I use this to plan for the following year. Back to the group of girls piled into the truck, I took particular notice to the fact that all through the day last year they continued to smile, laugh, and enjoy their time together despite a crash, hardships, and the heat of the day. Other riders in attendance enjoyed their day as well. This display of emotions implants in me the fact that this event does an exceptional thing. For a day, we assemble women from all over the Northeast to unite, make new friends, learn, and have a blast riding dirtbikes together. This year our event will be held at Happy Ramblers in Hanover, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, May 4. If you wish to seek more information on the event, or would like to be added to our mailing list, you may contact Kelsey Green at 717-683-2240 or send an email to girlsjustwannaride@gmail.com. MRA: So, tell us a little bit about your company. KD: Kid DynaMite Apparel Company is an Action Sports apparel company that targets today’s youth in Motocross, BMX Freestyle, BMX Race, Skateboarding, Scooters and Kart Racing. You name it; if it’s RAD then KDM likes it. Kid DynaMite is based right here in Central Pennsylvania out of Hershey and in only eight short months of the company’s existence we’ve become an international company sponsoring and selling in countries like France, Belgium, England, Latvia and Japan.

2013 Motocross Ladies Team Member Local MDRA Racer is one of six women chosen to compete on the 2013 Motocross Ladies Team. Name: Monica Engel Race#: 90 Home town: Williamsport, PA Age: 16 Associations: AMA, MDRA District 6&7 About Me: My mom got me my first motorcycle when I was 4 years old. I started competing in Motorcycle Trials at age 5, when I got my new bike, a GasGas 50boy. I competed for 5 years in District 6, but I always had the desire to race motocross. In 2011, I bought a Honda CR85R and started to pursue my dream of racing motocross. In 2012, Bob Logue Honda Motorsports, my rider sponsor, provided me with a new CR125R 2-stroke bike. My mom continues to be my biggest fan and manager and my stepdad, Scott, is my mechanic. There is nothing I love to do more than race! Racing is not just my hobby, it’s my passion. One of my heroes is Ashley Fiolek, as I am deaf too.

MRA: Tell us about your roots and what got you started? KD: KDM’s owner Eric Bess has strong roots in Action Sports dating back to 1981 when he started racing BMX and in the mid-80s moved into Freestyle BMX. “Even though I was on a pedal bike, I’ve always loved Motocross and remember watching it on TV in the late ’70s, and I still do to this day.” Eric also gets inspiration and design direction from his deep roots in rock n roll, punk rock and heavy metal. “I spent 20 years playing bass in several rock, punk and metal bands, including the Dead 50’s (HBG), Anthrophobia (Reading) and Last Call (HBG). I feel this is a very strong influence on my life, and you can definitely see this in Kid DynaMite Apparel designs and Attitude.”

Racing Background: I race in two different classes, the boy’s 85/150C and the Women’s. I finished the 2012 MDRA District 6 season 2nd in Women’s class and 4th in 85/150C boys class. In 2011 District 6, I finished 2nd in Women’s Class out of 29 women and 10th place out of 51 boys in the 85/150C class. I attended 3 Loretta Lynn Area Qualifiers this year and qualified at all 3. I then advanced to Regional Qualifiers, where I finished 14th in the East Coast. I attended Fellowship Christian Athlete (FCA) camp in Indiana with trainers Ryan Villopoto, Kenny Bartram and Sarah Whitmore. Community Involvement: I attend Cogan Station Christian Church, have been involved in 4-H for 5 years, and play softball and soccer. I was selected for the People for People Student Ambassador Program in 2011, participated in the Toastmasters Program, and placed 2nd in the Business Expo held for Williamsport School District. 2013 Outlook Qualify for Loretta Lynn’s Attend Mini Os Attend FCA Camp Finish in the top five in Super Mini for MDRA District 6 Series Obtain sponsors to help me pursue my dream and goals for 2013 season Enhance my training and nutritional regimen to compete at a higher level Improve my cornering and starts Be a positive role model for young riders pursing motocross 2013 Sponsors Bob Logue Honda Motorsports- rider sponsor, Motocross Ladies Team, Mom, Scott & family, One Industries, 100%, Pro Taper, Lucid Coatings, Pant Saggin, Dunlop Tires, Cupp’s Vacuum Center, All Balls Racing, Alberts Spray Solutions, Leatt Brace, Happy Pappy, FreeGun, Matrix Concepts, MotoOption, Bottle Run Xtreme, Works Connection.

MRA: What kind of apparel and products do you offer to your customers? KD: -Kid DynaMite provides something different, a true option in clothing for these kids and their parents. I didn’t want shirts for my kids from [the normal Big Box stores]. Even the bigger [industry brands] usually only offer 2-3 designs for kids. My idea was to give the kids some modern and cool designs like we see for adults but specialize in youth sizes. We specialize in sizes ranging from 2T-Adult XXXLg. Yes, we have adult apparel so the parents can Rock KDM with their kids. KDM has several tee designs, hoodies, hats, beanies, thermals, women’s cuts, belts and tons more in the works for 2013. MRA: I see you are involved heavily with the BMX community. Do you have the same types of plans for MX? KD: My son Brody is a 7 Expert National BMX racer, so, yes, we do spend a lot of time at BMX tracks all across the United States. It is my plan to do a little more on the Motocross side in 2013, starting with vending at Motorama this month. I love the commitment the MX riders and families have to this sport. It’s very similar to what we have in BMX. MX is fast, dirty, loud and I love the air even the kids can get. Again, just a RAD sport. KDM has a Factory BMX race team. A BMX development team, “Team Young Blood,” and a Freestyle BMX team. We do sponsor several MX kids ranging in ages from 6-13, a few scooter kids and a kart racer kid. KDM has sponsored riders in all four points of the country from Southern Cali to Washington State, from New England to Florida, and all points in between. We also have several international sponsored riders all over the world. MRA: Where can we find your products? KD: 5-You can check out the Kid DynaMite online web store at www.kid-dynamite.com. Please LIKE our Facebook page, we do a lot of free giveaways and contests on there. Also, make sure you stop by our vendor booth at Motorama at the Farm Show Arena on Feb 16th and 17th. We will have all of our newest winter collection available there, free stickers, and KDM is also a Strider Bikes dealer. Strider is the best balance toddler bike in the world for 2-5-year-olds to jumpstart their future careers in BMX or Motocross. 24 FEBRUARY/MARCH 2013

Bruce Lally MRA caught up this off season with long time racer, former industry employee and the voice of Happy Ramblers to learn a little more about the man behind the mic. MRA: Hi Bruce, thanks for taking the time to share with us. Lally: No problem, Jim, glad to do it. MRA: I know we first met many years ago when you were working at West Shore Suzuki. Can you tell us what you did there and for how long? Lally: Sure, I met Bill and Michele at the track and they needed help, so I went to work for them for about 10 years. I would run errands, stay in touch with customers after the sale. I would do bike pick-up and deliveries, really whatever they needed help with.

You’ve dedicated yourself to keeping America safe. Now make sure you do the same for yourself. Yamaha and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) encourage you to take a riding course and to always dress properly for your ride with a helmet, eye protection, gloves and boots. Of course, never drink and ride – it’s illegal and dangerous. For more information on the MSF course, call 1-800-446-9227. Now let’s roll.

MRA: Shortly after that I ran into you and your nephews racing at the Happy Ramblers Motorcycle Club, is the whole family involved in the sport?

www.actionmotorsports.com 2012

Lally: It started with me and then my nephews got into it. We raced together as a three rider team for about 5 or 6 years, and then they grew up and got out of the sport.

The Voice of Happy Ramblers

2012

Lally: I’ve been riding for around 40 years now. I was going to the Old Harrisburg Motorcycle Club just to have a place to ride, and the guys convinced me I was good enough to go racing. So in the early 1980s, I started racing with my buddies. MRA: Wow, that’s a pretty long time ago; you must really love the sport. Lally: Yes, I do. I love to race my motorcycle or even ride. Any time on the seat is a good time. MRA: How about Happy Ramblers, how long have you been a member there? Lally: I joined the club in mid-1999 – so 12 years. MRA: And how about the announcing duties, how long have you been doing that?

Dealers Welcome

Lally: We built the tower at end of 2005, and I started the next year, so 7 years. MRA: Have you held any other positions at Happy? Lally: Yes, I’m a past president, vice president, flag coordinator, membership committee chairman, and I run the riders’ meeting. MRA: Well, you certainly do a great job, and it sounds like you’ve done many. You know the racers, and it seems we can count on you being in the tower at every event. Do you ever get any help up there? Lally: Yes, I do. Jason Cotterino started helping me out last year, and he’s been a Godsend. Without his help, I wouldn’t be racing with my buddies. I’d like to thank him for everything he does. MRA: How about your plans for racing? I know you went part time a few years ago. Lally: I’ll be doing it as long as I can. The only reason I stopped was because of working at the track. I didn’t have time to do both, and the work comes first. Like I said above, Jason started helping in the tower so now I can live my dream again. MRA: Sounds great, Bruce. I’d like to personally thank you for all that you’ve done for the sport, and we hope to see you out there for many more years to come.

Happy New Year!

Chaplain’s Free Swag! Corner

I wonder about the wisdom of opening this article with either one of those proclamations, especially the second one. I don’t have free swag. Although it won’t cost anything to read these: S-mart W-ords A-bout G-od That’s some valuable SWAG right there. How about Happy New Year? I wonder how long the new year is new? One day? One week? A month? I’m guessing the year isn’t new anymore since I don’t hear people wishing others Happy New Year. And by the time you read this, that greeting will have been put in the drawer until the next new year. And when someone wishes us a Happy New Year, do they expect us to be happy all year, or just as long as the year is new? Sometimes I wonder if some people are ever happy. I know when I feel happy, the feeling usually doesn’t last. One thing that makes me feel happy with the start of the new year is the start of the Supercross season. But that seems to fade some as the season progresses. I read about something just this morning that can provide more long-term happiness, and it doesn’t matter if the year is new, or if my favorite riders are winning, or whether I got a raise or not. Or, for you, it won’t matter if you got a new ride, if your favorite track is closed this weekend, or whether your taxes get raised. Yeah, you guessed it; I read it in the Bible. It’s very basic to happiness. It has to do with wisdom. By the way, two things recently made my life a bit easier, two things I have struggled with in the past, two things that used to frustrate me. Did you ever try to open a banana only to have the stem fold over instead of break? I end up mashing the top of the banana, which makes me unhappy. My daughter recently told me to try pinching the opposite end of the banana. I tried that today on a pretty green banana. It worked! I was happy. I followed her advice, and it made me happy. Wisdom. Take, as well, the garden hose spray nozzle. You squeeze it to spray water, and when you let go it doesn’t shut off. I end up slapping it around to shut it off and usually break it and end up buying a new one. This makes me unhappy. Well, one day I visited my parents’ house and saw my dad tinkering like usual. But this time he was tinkering with a garden hose nozzle (he fixes everything). I discovered that he was spraying some lubricant around the stem because it was sticking. Guess what, I tried it and it worked. That made me happy! Now my nozzles shut off. Wisdom. Proverbs 3:13-18 puts it like this: Happy is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gets understanding. 14 Wisdom is worth more than silver; it brings more profit than gold. 15 Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you could want is equal to it. 16 With her right hand wisdom offers you a long life, and with her left hand she gives you riches and honor. 17 Wisdom will make your life pleasant and will bring you peace. 18 As a tree produces fruit, wisdom gives life to those who use it, and everyone who uses it will be happy. Now you might think my two examples are a bit, well, out there. But, see if you can find how this passage applies to my examples and your own life. I encourage you to use wisdom in all aspects of your life. I know you need to be wise on the track. Foolishness often results in accidents and can cause damage to bodies, bikes and quads, and even relationships. That doesn’t make anybody happy. My unwise decisions cause me unhappiness, and often cause others unhappiness as well. With God, all things are possible. It says that in the Bible too. I pray that you will choose to live, and ride, by the wisdom of Proverbs 3, with God’s help. If you have questions about a relationship with God please contact me by email at rev7min@gmail.com. By the way, did any of you see the picture of Trey Canard baptizing a kid on the Supercross/Motocross updates Facebook page? Awesome! Motorama is just around the next turn, and I will be there Sunday morning in the Large Arena Stands just above the starting gate. We will provide a chapel service for the riders and their families at 7:50 a.m. We will finish before the first drop of the gate. Can you help us to promote this? Will you come and worship with us? A little further down the straight-away, we will be doing chapel at Doublin Gap’s first race of the season during the first weekend in March. Have a Happy Old Year! Roger A. Nowell KLU, Be There.

Troy Lee Designs / HJC Returning Sponsors for Mainline Series

For those that don’t know, the Mainline Series is held at two tracks in our coverage area, Sleepy Hollow Motocross Park in Fredericksburg, Pa., and Pagoda Motorcycle Club in Birdsboro, Pa. The series is going into its fourth year, and there are four events held at each facility offering year-end awards and crowning champions in each class. Local sales rep. Adam Russler and the companies he represents, along with Ephrata Cycle and Sports, have been the main series sponsors, bringing Honda Contingency to each round since its inception. The Mainline Schedule can be found in our pages and online but for this article, however, I would like to concentrate on Russler and the product lines he represents. We are after all motorcycle racers and Adam works with some of the industry’s leading suppliers. Many of the dealers you do business with in the area carry his product lines. MRA: Hey Adam, thanks for talking with us. Russler: Anytime Jim, thanks for the opportunity! MRA: I see that you will again be one of the main sponsors for the Mainline Series. Russler: I will! I actually started sponsoring SleepyMX back in 2005, giving helmets to the winners in every class. Since then, we’ve mixed it up some here and there with the companies I represent, both due to varying budgets and to just keep it fresh and exciting for the participants. Being a part of the Mainline Series is something I find very rewarding. Randy, Jere, and really all involved are some of the most honest, hard-working and passionate people I’ve met in the industry. Jere, with his constant track improvements, gathering input from racers and really putting his money where his mouth is with the 2 stroke national, has unreal passion for the sport. And Randy and the Pagoda crew, they really set the standard as far as track prep and organization goes. The tracks, their promoters and participants have truly been a pleasure to work with! MRA: What types of products have you brought to the table for them? Russler: HJC in conjunction with Sullivans Distributing and HJC America, SPY, and Troy Lee Designs MRA: Are there other products for the motorcycle and ATV industry that you represent? Russler: Sullivans Distributing is the largest volume company I represent. They own Joe Rocket street apparel, as well as Power-Trip. They also carry a selection of the Oneal Element line, Nelson Rigg, and are the world’s largest distributor of HJC helmets, the number one selling helmet line in the US. I also represent Troy Lee Designs and SPY Optic, and those two companies are on the gas! TLD has really been building their presence these last few years on the East Coast. It’s funny, when you go out west, that’s all you see, TLD everywhere! Here it has taken some time to build that momentum, but Troy has one of those brands that’s just so contagious. Once you get a sense of what he and the company are about, that’s all it takes, you’re hooked! Every year he somehow raises the bar. MRA: How long have you been working in the industry? Russler: I have been involved and working in the industry since my earliest memories, when my father built his business, Expert Cycle, in Lewistown, Pa. He was unfortunately killed in a motorcycle accident riding the first model Victory motorcycle from PA to the Polaris headquarters to attend a meeting. He hit a deer in North Dakota and sustained fatal head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. After that, I went to college and got a business degree at Penn State and began my career, not coincidentally, selling motorcycle helmets and protective gear in 2001. So as far as being a rep, going on 12 years! MRA: I know you’ve raced for quite a while also. Does your experience on the track help you offer a better product to the consumer? Russler: I think so. I am an enthusiast selling products mostly to people I consider friends, who I share a common passion with. If I wouldn’t personally use or trust a product, there’s no way I would want to represent it. Being an enthusiast, it’s not like selling washing machines or refrigerators. What I represent Monday thru Friday, I need to also trust on the weekends, not only for myself, but for my friends, relatives, riders and business partners. MRA: I guess our readers can find your products at dealers throughout our coverage area? Is there any type of dealer locator online they can check out? Russler: Yes, they can, and yes, all my companies offer dealer lookup tools on their sites. It’s always nice to deal locally and support your local community. In most cases, local shops can offer you a competitive, if not better price than any website. TLD for example now enforces a new MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) policy that states current products must be advertised at retail price. Of course closeouts and old styles are allowed to be advertised below that, but local shops have plenty of access to those discontinued products as well. In many cases, if you have a great relationship with a local dealership, you can save money, hassle and time by dealing with them. MRA: Any must haves or really cool products that our readers need to get their hands on this year? Russler: There are so many right now. HJC has an incredible new high-end line of helmets, the RPHA (Revolutionary Performance Helmet Advantage) that includes the Off Road model that is the lightest Snell Approved off-road helmet currently on the market. HJC has been working on that model line for over 3 years, and it shows in the quality, fit and finish of the products. And the moto-specific model has a retail price of just $349.99, which, in typical HJC fashion, is well below the pricepoint of their competition. TLD has so many things up their sleeves that will literally blow people away! Also, the TLD Shock Dr line has been enjoying huge success, especially the CP5900 chest protector and catalyst knee brace. Heck, even my own orthopedic surgeon uses them! Check out TLD’s line of Offroad adventure apparel as well! Last, but not least, SPY has a new goggle, the OMEN, coming out that Justin Barcia will be using for 2013. MRA: Ok, anything else you would like to talk about while we have you? Russler: Well, being a helmet rep, I should remind everyone to replace their helmet at least every 4-5 years, even if it hasn’t hit the ground. The EPS (Expended Polystyrene) liner that cushions the impact in an accident wears over time, and when you do need it most you want the EPS to be nice and fresh! MRA: Great, thanks for supporting the sport locally and for your dedication to the industry: Russler: Thanks for the opportunity, and thank you to all my loyal dealers and S779292 supporters of the brands I work for!
