Hello Race Fans!
Well race fans, this is it, the last issue of 2005. It had to happen sooner or later. The good news is that 2006 is right around the corner. We’ll take January off to catch our breath, then we’ll be right back at it come early February with our Pre - Motorama issue. In this issue you’ll find lot’s of year end awards banquets and the last few races of 2005. Many of the promoters have listed their tenative schedules for next season so you can start to plan awhile. And please check with our advertisers. They have many Holiday Season Specials going on for you, so please take advantage. It has been an exciting year. Stay tuned to MRA for all of the upcoming racing action. Things are still being finalized, but from what I’ve seen so far 2006 will be better than ever. Here at MRA, we are striving to serve you better as well. Watch our website in the
upcoming weeks for a racer questionaire. We want to know what you think is good or bad about MRA. We want to know what you want to see in these pages. After all, it is your publication. In 2006 all MDRA members and all District 6 MX card holders will receive a copy of MRA in the mail. Please use this to your benefit. Age: 13 Hometown: Carlisle, PA District #: 2m Ride: Kawasaki KX85 Class: 85 12-13 Experience: 4 years racing Hobbies: Basketball, fishing. Fav. Racer: James Stewart Sponsors: Cumberland Kawasaki, Mom and Dad MRA would like to feature Brandon Mcmanus from Carlisle, PA. Brandon was awarded at Doublin Gaps annual awards banquet for being the “Most Improved Rider” for 2005 at their facility. Brandon actually was leading his class this season in points, but he did not attend enough races to qualify for the track championship. This is Brandons first year on the 85cc bike and he has done quite well for himself. He raced a few years on the 65 and has adapted quite well to the bigger bike. The folks at Doublin Gap have noticed his progress as well and therefore awarded him the honor of “Most Improved Rider”. Watch out next season, Brandon will be back and he’ll be in the hunt for one of those championships. He raced a few rounds of the MDRA series this season as well and ran up front with the series leaders. I believe this young man from Carlisle, PA has a bright future in this sport. 85cc racers take note and watch out next year for the number (2m) Kawasaki. I’m sure it will be right on your rear fender if not your front. Jim Bull MRA
Caster and Wheel, Mom and Dad.
Future goals: I want to win 1st place in the D6 and the PA State H.S. Series, to
obtain sponsors and represent them well, to start racing in the 65cc class.
Walter Bond (007) is our current Kenda Tire Hare Scramble Hotshot. Walter has been in qualifying status for this column for quite a while. We are just finally getting around to recognizing him. Walter is relatively new to the sport of hare scramble racing. He started right before his 8th birthday where many young racers start at 4 or 5 years old. This didn’t seem to be too much of a problem for Walter though. He showed up for his first race in March of 2004 and he took a second place finish. A few weeks later he was back at the Dutchmen for his second race ever, only this time he won his class. That’s all it took, Walter was hooked and he has been competing ever since. In his first year he rode in the Oil Injected class where he finished second in both the D6 and PA State Series. He was also track champion at Foot of Mountain last year. Walter says that he is an agressive racer and he loves to be challenged. That has been apparent in 2005 as he continues to tear up the tracks in D6 in the 50cc stock class. Walter has raced in the ECEA Series and has done some motocross racing as well. He is your 2005 PA State Hare Scramble Champion where he has almost twice as many points as his closest competitor and Walter is leading the D6 Hare Scramble Series by 20 points with just a few races yet to be tallied. Walter will be moving up to race his 65cc bike in 2006, I recommend that all you older guys and gals watch out. My bet is that Walter Bond (007) will be tracking you down in the seasons to come. We would like to thank Walter and his family for their time and we wish you the best in your future racing endeavors. I would also like to thank and congratulate all of our Hotshots in 2005. Be sure to stay glued to MRA, we have a whole new season of Hotshots just waiting to be born. Jim Bull MRA

flying dutchmen hare scramble Round #12 • PA State Series • October, 23 2005 • Photos by MRA
The 12th and final round of the 2005 BP Promotions PA State Hare Scramble Series was held in late October at the Flying Dutchmen Motorcycle Club. The Series now in its fifth year continues to grow with larger racer participation and even better yet, more sponsor participation. BP Promotions has done a great job of bringing the big name sponsor to the local race series. MSR / Answer Racing continues to be the main sponsor for the event, offering great gear deals along with contingency payouts for racers of all skill levels.
Ian Pannebakker wins the Bromley Suzuki for following the BP State H.S. Series. All sponsors combined, the State Series will again payout over $ 20,000.00 worth
of goodies and cash. If you’re an off road racer, this is the place to be. Just ask Ian Pannebakker from Harrisburg, PA. Ian is the proud new owner of a Suzuki DRZ 125 provided by Bromley Motorcycles in Trevose, PA. Ian won the new Suzuki just for participating in the State Series. Every time a rider signs up to race, they get another chance to win. Next years series proves to be just as exciting. MSR / Answer are again onboard for sponsorship (make sure you get qualified for that promotion, see Bromleys MC for details). The series will consist of 11 rounds The track looks kinda “Ruff” today. next year. There are still 12 dates, but the first one is just a fun day that doesn’t count towards year end points. ATCO motocross
Round #21 • D6 Points • November 6, 2005 • by MRA Atco MX in Berlin, NJ played host to the final D6 Championship Points race of the 2005 season. The Series consisted of 21 rounds this year and was scheduled to have D6 racers making two stops at each D6 track. Things didn’t necessarily work out that way and I know that the D6 promoters are giving the series a tune up for 2006, so stay tuned. Atco ran a special Sunday day race for round 21 and some of the best racers from the area showed up to lock in those valuable district points. In the expert divisions, Twiggs Cycles Jeremy Cook came into today’s event with the 250 title nailed down but in the 125 division only several points separated him and Action Motorsports Clint Johnson. I don’t believe either one of them expected the outcome of today’s event but in the end it was Cook taking home both titles. Newly turned 16 year old Adam Blessing was the man that ended up winning the 125 A division on the day. Blessing was a C rider last year at this time, he advanced Jeremy Cook and Clint Johnson come to Atco only points apart thru the B ranks in 2005 and on Labor in the 125 A class. Cook goes home the winner. Day weekend went A. Only weeks later Blessing is emerging as the force to watch in D6 for 2006. Good luck Adam. Another title decided at Atco today had family ties involved. In the 50cc 7-8 division, young cousins Wyatt Barto and Brennen Weindel both riding the new Conti RX50 minicycles from Millers Cycle Works in Leola, PA came into the event only points apart. The two put on one of the best shows of the day, swapping positions thru out both motos and in the end it was Barto winning the district title by one point. By the time you get to read this, Atco’s schedule will be finished up for the year. Keep an eye on their website for their 2006 event schedule: www.atcomxracing.com. Be sure to check out the MRA website for complete event Ed Synnestvedt secures a 2nd in photos from today and don’t forget about Michael Pierson at D6 Points in the www.mppics.com. Michael was out at the track all year getting Senior division at ATCO. some great action shots of you. See you next season.
Alex Gillespie was on the gas for the win in 85cc (12-13).
The two (Wyatt Barto and Brennen Weindel) put on one of the best shows of the day…
Robert Piazza (4) battles Addison Emory (191) in 65cc racing action. Piazza wins three classes on the day.
Don Lysinger comes back at Atco and takes home a pair of wins.
Some of the best racing of the day took place in the 50cc division. Brandon Hartranft (22h) gets the win while cousins Wyatt Barto (529) and Brennen Weindel (64) battle for the D6 Points Championship.

Well another race season is over. If we are lucky and mother nature is kind we might get some decent riding weather well into January but based on todays out side temp. I think thats a bit of wishful thinking. So what are we going to do with that loyal bike thats dragged our butts around race tracks in all kinds of weather? I know a lot of people who just throw them in the
garage and forget about 'em till the snow melts. There is a better way. When you are sure your riding season is over take a bit of time to prep your bike for its long vacation. First lets change the engine oils and filter. Start the bike and get it warm so the old oil drains more thoroughly. On two strokes we are just changing the gear box oil, four strokes
may have an additional chamber for engine oil (CRF) After refilling start the engine again and run for a few minutes to make sure to get fresh oil throughout the engine. After the engine has cooled completely drain the fuel tank and carburetor. For the mentally impaired, fuel is very flammable so don't do this with a cigarette in your

mouth or any other source of ignition nearby, in fact its best done outside. You can drain the tank by disconnecting the fuel line at the carb and running it into a fuel container and turning on the petcock. To drain the carb place a rag under the carb then loosen the main jet access plug on the bottom of the float bowl. The rag will soak up the fuel. After the carb is drained dispose of the rag properly and retighten the plug. Modern fuels contain waxes in fact this is what gives them their colour. If left to evaporate these wax residues will be left behind to clog jets. If you haven't done it recently grease your swingarm and linkage and steering head bearings. They will resist corrosion far better with a nice coating of grease on them.At this time you can also check the chain slider and chain guide block. If they are well worn replace them now. Also inspect your chain and sprockets, if the teeth are hooked now's the time to do it. Its a good idea to change the coolant as well. Most bikes will be stored in unheated garages so you want to be absolutely sure that your coolant is up to the job. If you want to be 100% sure you can just put undiluted anti-freeze in but you will have to remember to drain it and dilute it before riding the bike next season. A 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and distilled water has more thermal carrying capabilty than undiluted anti-freeze, meaning your engine runs cooler with the 50/50 mix in it. If you have been running Engine Ice or some other specialized Coolant replace them. Most of these have no resistance to freezing. Remove your air filter, clean it and store it in a zip lock bag. Get yourself one of the Twin Air Air Box covers and install it in place of the filter and install an exhaust plug in the end of the pipe. The reason for this is to keep mice out of your bike. Don't laugh I've seen mice chew up air filters and fill airboxes and exhaust systems with seeds and nuts. Now put the bike up on a stand so both wheels are off the ground. Gently pry the brake pads away from the rotor this will avoid any moisture build up causing rust to form under the pad. Spray a little WD40 on any bare metal (not the rotors) and at the footpeg pivot and folding shift lever, this is more for the springs than anything else. Don't bother spending any money on your shock or forks at this point. Fork seals can start leaking from just sitting around and the shock will suffer nitrogen migration so you are better off waiting till just before the season starts to have them freshened up. Well I think this is the last article for a while, I hope you all have a happy holiday season and if Andy or I can be of any help with your biking needs please don't hesitate to give us a call.

Tech Tips
It’s that time of year when many of us are getting new bikes. Along with that comes new number plate backgrounds and for some of us new graphics too. Here’s some tips on installing the new vinyl: -Always make sure your plastics are clean and oil/grease free. I usually use windex for new plastics. If you have plastics where you’ve just removed some old decals, laquer thinner works well for removing the old glue. -You should spray the plastics before applying your decals. Again I use windex, but a few drops of dish detergent in a spray bottle of water also works well. A light mist is all that’s needed. This will eventually evaporate even after the decals are applied. The main reason it’s used is to allow you to remove the vinyl for a second chance. -I’d suggest starting with something easy, such as the front number plate. The typical exhaust side number plate panel is the most difficult, save that until last. They are usually the most non-flat surface. The practice you get on the other parts may help with the more difficult pieces. -Start by spraying a fine mist on the plastic piece. You can wipe it semi-dry if you spray too much. If any of the graphics have hole or other cutouts, start there. Gently lay the vinyl on the plastic. If it appears that you’re correctly aligned, you’re set to start. If not, you’ll still be able to remove the graphic and start over. After you’re lined up, it’s best to start from the center and squeegee the vinyl toward the outer edge. Work out any large air bubbles as you go. I prefer to use a soft rag rather than a hard squeegee, especially after applying heat. -Next, and one of the most important steps is to use some type of heat. I use a heat gun, but a blow dryer will work. For the non-flat surfaces this not only softens the vinyl and makes it easier to work with, but it allows the vinyl to form to the surfaces of the plastic. It also helps to activate the adhesive, so you should use the heat on all decals to be applied. Don’t use too much heat, the vinyl will actually stretch and you don’t want to stretch it too much. -One more important thing: It takes 24-48 hours for the adhesive to cure, so it’s best to install them a day or two before you plan on washing the bike. Now the fun part, stand back and admire your work. It’s not as much fun as riding, but it sure makes you anticipate the coming season even more! T

Time to Get Going You know how important I think weight training is during the offseason. Well, now is the time. You will want to follow the different phases of training, first is hypertrophy, second is basic strength and the third is power. You should change your training in a four-six week block. This will help you avoid “burn-out” from repeating the same training over and over. Altering
the training stimulates the muscle to work in different ways. This helps you become stronger and leaner. You will want to start off weight training two or three days a week. You will need to do three to four sets of each exercise with 10-12 reps per set. You should rest no more than a minute between sets. To find the right weight for your workout you should almost be at failure in your last two reps of each lift. Use your first set to warm-up. Keep the weight light, moving
through the full range of motion. Remember that lighter weight with correct form is more important than pushing heavier weight with bad form. Here are some lifts to get you started during the month of December. Day 1: ½ Back Squat, Leg Press, Dead Lift, SingleLeg Leg Curl, 3-Way Heel Raise, Neutral Grip Lat Pulldown, One Arm Row, Straight Bar Curl, Reverse Curl, Knee Lifts and Back Extensions. Day 2: Straight Bar Bench Press, Incline Press, Nautilus, Seated Press, Cybex Upright Row (Elbows to shoulder level), Nautilus Lateral Raise, Posterior Raise, Supine Tricep
Extension, Cybex Tricep Pushdown, and ½ Sit Ups or Abdominal Crunches. Start your workouts in December and get ready for the new year. 2006 will be here before we know it. Start looking ahead to spring 2006 and the goals you will set for yourself. Enjoy the Holidays ~ Bob Schuler. totaltwt@hotmail.com

DIRT TRACK - AMA Changes Flat Track Championship Posted By Scott Rousseau November 7, 2005 The following is from AMA Pro Racing: AMA Pro Racing announced today that it will move forward with plans to implement major changes to the AMA Flat Track Championship. Beginning with the 2006 racing season the championship will feature two separate classes, one for twin-cylinder equipment and one for single-cylinder equipment. The changes come at the conclusion of a series of comprehensive meetings with series stakeholders including the AMA Flat Track Advisory Board, riders, sponsors, tracks, promoters and manufacturers, among others. In making the announcement, AMA Pro Racing CEO Scott Hollingsworth confirmed that the input of everyone involved with the meetings has been invaluable. “This has been an extremely worthwhile process and one which provided us with a wealth of insightful information,” said Hollingsworth. “The objectivity and desire to improve flat track racing exhibited by virtually all parties has been encouraging.” The championship will now feature two equal classes. Twins will run primarily on mile and half-mile tracks with consideration of other venues and the singles will run on shorttrack, TT courses and selected half-miles. Each class will award points independently and a champion will be crowned in each series. Riders are encouraged to campaign both championships and the schedule will be created to allow such participation. The twin’s class will continue to feature equipment with displacement between 750cc and 1250cc while single-cylinder engines up to 450cc will be allowed in the singles class. Also, plans call for combined points from both series to be totaled for a year-end points fund distributed to the top 20 riders. Hollingsworth confirmed that the overriding objective of this plan is to build on the popularity of flat track racing while recognizing the tremendous heritage and history of the discipline. “There’s no question that expanding rider, fan and manufacturer involvement is in the best interest of flat

track racing,” said Hollingsworth. “One of the best ways to accomplish this goal is to offer a class that features equipment from one of the most popular and fastest growing motorcycle categories and that is 450cc motocross bikes. Similar to what we’ve done with Supermoto racing, a racer will be able to field a competitive bike by easily modifying a production 450 motocrosser.” Bruce Bober, AMA Pro Racing Flat Track Series Manager added that the support and interest of all major OEMs is a key factor in the new direction. “Showcasing this equipment through expanded forms of racing was an idea that has been strongly embraced by each of the manufacturers, particularly the Japanese,” said Bober. “Now, in addition to AMA Supercross, AMA Motocross and AMA Supermoto, manufacturers can market their products in this important sales category through participation in the AMA Flat Track Championship.” In addition to fielding factory and support level teams Bober expects to see additional OEM backing in the form of increased contingency, event sponsorship and technical assistance. Pat Alexander, Sports Promotion Manager at American Suzuki Motor Corporation believes the changes will be good for the sport of flat track. “We’re glad to see that AMA Pro Racing is implementing these changes,“ said Alexander. “The increased opportunity for our competitors to get involved in the sport will enhance the racing and provide more prospects for individual riders and teams.” Harley-Davidson, undoubtedly the motorcycle brand with the biggest investment in flat track racing agreed and is also supportive of the plan. “We’re pleased with the new direction AMA Pro Racing is taking their flat track series, and we believe this will inject new excitement and foster a higher level of competition in this purely American form of motorcycle racing,” said HarleyDavidson Racing Manager Anne Paluso. The 2006 AMA Flat Track Championship is set to kick off at Daytona Municipal Stadium during Daytona Bike Week, March 6-11. AMA Pro Racing plans to release additional details including a complete schedule in the coming days.

Happy Ramblers offered double track points at their last motocross race of 2005. There were 4 foot trophies sponsored by the Blue Mountain Door Company and a good crowd came out to partake in the festivities. The weather was beautiful with many saying, “why can’t it be like this all year long”. The racing action saw some great battles in many classes. 65cc 7-9 was good with battles for 1st and 2nd between Jarek Balkovic and Bobby Kinsley with Addison Emory and Robert Piazza going at it for the third spot. In the end it was Balkovic with the win followed by Kinsley, Piazza, Emory and Damian Thompson wrapping up the fifth spot. 125 B and School Boy was intense with Garret Toth, Colton Bailey and Broc Schmelyun mixing it up. Toth won both classes with Bailey and Schmelyun both grabbing seconds. Bailey in School Boy and Schmelyun in 125 B. 2006 promises to be an exciting year at Happy Ramblers. They’ve promised us a new track layout for next season and they will be offering a practice day the day before each race day. They will be offering two races in the MDRA Series and two races in

rider Donald Lysinger put his Yamaha out front grabbing the all important holeshot. Coming into the center section of the track Lysinger was thrown from his mount. He got up uninjured but the entire field got by him. Dunkelberger assumed the lead followed closely by John Pierson and Pat Brown. Brown was quickly by Pierson and set off to catch Dunkelberger. Brown and Dunkelberger battled fiercely with Brown eventually going by “Dunk” in the back section of the track. With his lead secured the K&K/Curtis Sparks Racing Yamaha rider Brown went off to capture the moto win. He was followed over the line by Dunkelberger in second The Pro Am start at the Fall ATV Classic. and Yamaha rider Andy Ehrenzeller was in third. Brown was once again making and Jason Dunkelberger and their race his move on the leaders and the three went nose to tail for a couple of laps. Brown got machines. Donald Lysinger.
Lysinger was third. Brown took the overall with 1-1 motos followed by Dunkelberger with 2-1 scores and Ehrenzeller used 3-4 motos to take third overall. The first Open Pro-Am moto again saw Lysinger grab the holeshot and jump out to an early lead. He was trailed closely by Pierson and James Silfies. Brown was slow off the gate and was stuck in early moto traffic. Lysinger continued to lead followed closely by Dunkelberger and Silfies. Brown was hot on the trail of the trio. With Lysinger still out front battling Dunkelberger Brown made his move into third going around Silfies. Dunkelberger would turn out to Brown’s next victim as the #199 Yamaha went for the pass and made it stick. Lysinger’s grab bar was the next bull’s-eye in Brown’s sights and after sticking an A-arm in Lysinger’s rear view mirror Brown made the pass for the lead in the back section of the track. Brown went on for the moto win with Lysinger and Dunkelberger rounding out the podium. The holeshot king of the day Donald Lysinger jumped out front again. Again a battle raged on as Dunkelberger, Brown and Lysinger. Nose to tail the trio set away from the pack and waged their own war up front. At times you could throw a blanket over the battle. Lysinger was the first to cave as both Dunkelberger and Brown got by. This time Dunkelberger stayed up front and took the victory eliminating Brown’s chance of the perfect afternoon. Lysinger held on for third in the moto and third overall as well. Raceway Park already has two quad races tentatively scheduled for 2006. Check out www.racewaypark.com for more information.
