Happy Halloween everybody. I know it’s not to the end of the month, but it’s one of my favorite holidays and I wanted to get the plug in. The kids all have a blast dressing up like little Ricky Carmichaels and the likes and going out and getting all that free candy. I know it’s not as good as that Little Jimmy’s Italian Ice that they’ve been getting at the track lately, but it will have to do. I come to you this month with both sadness and joy in my heart. As many of you know by now, I have sold Motorcycle Racing Action to Engle Publishing Company. I know the new company will take good care of you all and they will continue to provide all of the great race coverage that you all have been accustomed to. I am happy on one note because I will have more time to spend with my family and my childrens other endeavors. I am sad on
the other hand because this is the last issue that I will produce as editor of MRA. I will still be around taking pictures and providing race coverage as a contributor to the paper but my baby is no longer my baby. I would like to thank each and every reader, contributor, advertiser and track owner for putting up with me these last seven years. I have built many great friendships and business relationships along the way and I will remember each and every one of you. Thanks for making this a great ride and I wish all of you the best no matter where your paths take you in life. I would also ask that each and every one of you continue to read and support MRA. The new company can do much more with this than I ever could so please support them in any way you can. Watch also for the new editor, Shane Hartman to be out at the track in the future to meet all of you and to work with you to continue the great tradition that MRA has become in our region. Remember, it’s your newspaper. It will be what you make it. Also remember to check out my new website for photos, it’s simply: jimbullphoto. com. We’ll be at many events the rest of this year and next capturing those great race photos and offering that Little Jimmys Italian Ice. Again I thank you all from the bottom of my heart and I look forward to seeing you all out at the track. Best wishes - Jim Bull and Family

Pagoda Motorcycle Club August 24, 2008 – Birdsboro, PA -
Evan Richards soars to the win in 85 (9-11).
The Pagoda Motorcycle Club kicked off their fall 08 race schedule in late August under sunny skies and warm temperatures on their grounds in Birdsboro, PA. There was a generous crowd on hand for the day’s racing and the Wyatt Barto Memorial ride. The day’s event kicked off with the 25 plus and School Boy 2 groups. The racing was close in the School Boy division with Joey Peters and Tyler Hawk going at it all day. Hawk would go 2-1 for the win over Peters with Richie Kastle jumping in the mix in the third position. Tony Roth would win both 25 plus motos over Chris Shifflett and Mike Klinger for the overall.
Lee Wallace wins Open C
Next up were the 85 (9-11) guys. This class is always fun to watch as many of these racers have just come off the smaller 65cc machines and our transitioning to be able to compete in the 12-13 group where things really start to get hot. Today we found Luke Palonicola and Evan Richards swapping moto wins with the overall going to Richards. Cole
Gable, Savion Terry and David Vertucci would round out the top five. Other great battles on the day saw Alex Maldet, Brian Wasson and Angelo Manerchia go at it in the other School Boy division with Ethan Waybright and John Barto mixing it up good in Vet B. Speaking of John Barto, Foundation 529 was on hand today to raise money to help their mission of “protecting the youth of our sport one helmet at a time”. They offer t shirts and arm bands for sale to raise money and today Pagoda sponsored a memorial ride to help the cause. The days event ended up being a record for the group, in speaking with John after the event he told me that they had over 100 riders participate which was a record and they raised more money than they had at any other day out. This is a testament to the great riders that we have in our area and because of the efforts the foundation was able to give away three helmets on the day to riders that really needed them. Matter of fact in speaking with John a few weeks after this event, he told me he got a phone call from a mother of one of the riders that got awarded a new helmet that day. Unfortunately the rider was involved in an accident where he got landed on by another rider. The helmet that he got that day was badly damaged in the accident, but guess what, the rider wasn’t. his safety to the protective gear he was using. Thank goodness the foundation got to him before the accident occurred. I guess the moral to this story is, the next time you have an opportunity to help but you aren’t sure if it will make a difference, please do. Pagoda’s next event is coming up on October 11-12th. It is part of the Delmarva Race Series and also part of an expert big bucks weekend. In addition to the 120% expert payout, Fred Vertucci of VPE is stepping up and adding three thousand dollars to the expert purse. Stay tuned for more details and if you’re an A rider make sure you’re there to get your share of the purse. If you’re not, make sure you’re there to see some great racing action. Happy Ramblers MC September 13-14, 2008 By Jim Bull Photo Other exciting action included the School Boy and Supermini divisions. Even the 50 and 65cc classes were stacked at this event. The list goes on and on and if you missed it, it was your loss. These riders were battling for championships and for the right to attend the year end shootout in October. The racing was just as hot as the day. You can check out all of today’s results here and log onto: mdramxracing.com for year end point standings and information on the shootout. Please also check out: jimbullphoto.com to view all of today’s race images. Cook and Holton battle in Open A racing action and finish 1 - 2 respectively.
The 12th and final round of the 2008 MDRA Race Series came to Happy Ramblers in mid September. Along with it came hot and humid weather and close to 600 entries. Looking back to the beginning of the season I’m sure some promoters may have had some concern about the pending rider turnouts for the year. Gas prices and unemployment were up and the economy stood on shaky ground. Months later if we know nothing more than we did then,
phenomenal. The days racing action started off with the Vet A and B divisions. The expert battle again came down to three riders who are truly rock solid in our area. Barry Carsten, Mike Bear and Greg Pamart have supported this great sport since they were kids. Between the three of them there are probably more championships won, more race miles traveled and more love for the sport than any 20 riders put together? These guys are icons and the next time you see them at a track, thank them for what they’ve done for the sport of motocross. By the way Carsten got two wins on the day with Pamart notching one. Bear was right there and gave them both a run for their money at times. In Vet B racing action Pat Stansbury took home the win. Next up came the Four Stroke division. I love this class because there are no class stipulations. You Frank Lettieri wins School Boy get a mix of A and B riders and 2 Stroke after getting busted every now and then a C rider jumps in the mix just to keep it interesting. up at Loretta’s. Out front expert riders Willy Toth and Ryan Zimmerman would battle we can say that motorcycle racers with Toth getting the win. Behind love their sport and the members them a group of B riders went at it of the MDRA love to support their including Wozney, Stewart (watch series. Each and every round this this guy), Riden and Lettieri. Fact year was well attended. In talking is the talent went 8-10 deep on to the series promoters just prior this day with Wozney being the top to this round close to 90 riders are amateur guy in third. Britton Stewart going to receive perfect attendance has really been on the gas lately awards for this year’s series. That’s finishing fourth

Mason Dixon Dirt Tracker August 23, 2008 – Delta Fairgrounds Dragunas. Dragunas took second on the fifth lap. Smith held off Ryan Varnes for the 85 (7-11) win while his younger brother, Chase, passed Brandon Price down the back stretch on lap two for the 50 (7-8) class win.
250 B winner (8) Derek Hersh Yoder, Mullen Split Wins at Delta ST By Len & Ben Breech DELTA, PA. AUG. 23
Ken Yoder and Don Mullen split Open class wins as the Mason Dixon Short Trackers held their second and final event of the season on the small tricky oval of the Mason Dixon Fairgrounds. Yoder started the evening off with a win in the Open A event over Raun Wood, while Mullen closed out the evening with the Open Sportsman win over Wood. Yoder led Chris Klinefelter, Wood, Cory Strickler and Cory Texter out of two at the start of the Open A final. Wood took second on the third lap, while Klinefelter and Strickler collided a few laps later. In the confusion, Mullen was recovering from a poor start and sliced his way up to third by the end. Mullen borrowed Dillon Cava’s machine for the Open Sportsman final and took the lead from Texter, Klinefelter and Wood. Klinefelter took second on the next lap, while Texter fell, collecting Yoder in the process. Wood worked his way by Klinefelter a few laps later as the top three ran the rest of the race nose to tail. With his 450 needing a ‘few’ parts, Mike Poe ran his seldom used 250 in the 250 Sportsman, taking the lead from Derek Hersh, Roy Miller and Jake Shoemaker at the start. The crafty Miller slipped under Hersh for second into three on the fourth lap, but he couldn’t catch Poe. Poe had earlier used a Mike Bell Racing Honda to take a close wire to wire Adult 100 final over Jeremiah Snow and Samantha Bergman. Miller had a fairly easy time winning the 30 + final, thanks to some of his main competition starting on the penalty line. Ray Jenkins, Chris Hathaway and Cava
followed. Cava worked his way into second at the start of the fourth lap, while Jenkins Kevin Varnes and Hathaway battled over third for the rest of the race. One of penalty liners, Mike Klopp, came back and easily won the 40 + class, while Mike Mester
Open A winner
got into a close battle for second with Jenkins and Jim Chapman from the midway point of the race that went to Jenkins Hersh took a pair of wins in the 250 and Open B classes. In the 250, he led Ryan Connelly, Anthony Crabbe, Cody Gray and Eric Acri. Gray took third on the fourth lap, setting the top five. The Open B had Travis Diem, Gary Jenkins and Jeff McManus. Diem stayed close until he threw a chain on the sixth lap. Connelly was given the 125 final when Joe Dragunas got a little too close to leader Albert Cook entering the first turn on the fifth lap and both fell. Joey Alexander was also a double winner, taking the 150 Air Cooled and 85 (12-15) classes. He held off Colton Smith in the 150 Air Cooled, while the 85 looked like a Timonium déjà vu with Alexander leading Matt Langrehr and Ryan

Getting Sideways with Cory Texter Hey Everyone, Well another month of racing has come and gone. I knew August and September would be huge months for me and the whole racing world. The end of August we were racing in Springfield, Illinois which is the Mecca of dirt track racing. Then in September, the biggest race of the season was going to occur in Indianapolis, Indiana. We would be racing the Lucas Oils Indy Mile in conjunction with the Moto GP weekend! I was very anxious to get my season turned around and accomplish the goals I set forth in the beginning of the year. Springfield weekend is one of the best racing weekends in the history of motorcycle racing. I raced the Springfield Short Track before and I always did well on it. This year, however I would be racing the most historical track in the history of the sport, The Springfield Mile. I raced the mile once at the amateur nationals back in 2005, but this year I was racing the best in the world. At the Short Track in Springfield there were 96 riders or so. They took 60 to the program and 16 to the main. It’s one of the hardest main events to make all year. You have to finish top 2 in your heat race, or win your semi to make the Grand National. I ended up finishing 6th in my heat race and a close 3rd in the semi after leading a couple re-starts, before getting a bad start on the one that counted. I felt pretty good, but it just didn’t feel like we had enough horsepower to get the job done. Henry Wiles won the main event, and Jake (Johnson) won the overall 450 singles championship. Jake is a fellow D6 rider and it was cool to see him win the championship. The next day was the Mile. I was a little nervous. I didn’t know what to expect. This racetrack has been around before TV was invented I think. Most of the guys I would be racing with have raced this track SO many times. I actually felt real comfortable right away. Nothing else compares to going 140mph on your first mile. I rode well the first day and was in a heated battled for transfer in the semi with Cheza, Tyer, Wood, and Varnes. All of these riders have made a mile national before and I led that pack for two laps and tried to break away but they reeled me back in with the draft. I ended up missing my first mile by 3 tenths of a second. Kenny Coolbeth and Chris Carr had a pretty good race for the win. Kenny Won, Chris was a close 2nd with Russell 3rd. The next day we would be racing the mile again. I felt great, but continued to get horrible starts. I mean horrible! I might as well have turned my bike around backwards and started the wrong way. I was last off the line both days and although my fastest lap times were good enough for the final, we just missed it again. I finished a very close 2nd in the dash for cash after passing 5 guys on the last lap. Chris Carr won the main event and looked real strong. Coolbeth was 2nd, and Shaun Russell was 3rd again. We had a real good showing and we were very happy at the end of the weekend. Coolbeth put the championship out of reach as Joe Kopp didn’t have the best showing in Springfield. Coolbeth later wrapped up the championship in Monticello the following weekend as he won the main event and the Twins and Overall championships.

The big news in recent days was I made my first ever Grand National main event at the Indy Mile on Sept 13th. It couldn’t have come at a better time with 30,000 people in attendance. The track was fast and it stayed a cushion the whole day until the final. I was running 14th or so in my first Grand National final after lap one and my bike started to feel weird. On lap 4, it locked up down the back-straightaway and my night was done. I was really bummed as I felt we had a top 10 run brewing, but we got the monkey off our chest to make the first one and I am ready to finish out the year strong and kick butt in 2009! Chris Carr won the main event, Coolbeth was 2nd and another factory HD rider Bryan Smith was 3rd. My sister, Shayna had a real strong showing in her debut basic twins 750 race in Indy. I feel she would have definitely been on the podium if her holeshots were a little better. She was running 6th and passing a lot of riders in the final, until oil from a motorcycle that broke on the track put her down in turns 3 and 4. She was OK, but the bike wasn’t and her night was done as well. I secured a national number for next year, which means I won’t have a letter next to my number. I’m hoping it will be 65 as it’s the only number I ever had growing up.
I am doing some local races, tuning up the 750’s and getting ready for our last national Oct 4th in Topeka, Kansas. I am determined to finish out the season strong. We learned so much this year, and I am ready to put it all to use in 2009. Catch up with me by checking out my website, CoryTexter.com and shoot me over an email. I love to hear from everyone out there and hope to see you all at the track soon! I got to watch my first Moto GP race live the following day at the Indy Speedway. My buddy PJ Jacobsen from NY was racing his first ever 125GP and did awesome finishing 22nd. He was the 2nd American in the field. Nicky Hayden had a real strong finish in the hurricane like conditions and finished a strong 2nd to the doctor, Valentino Rossi. The guy is absolutely nuts on a motorcycle. His teammate Jorge Lorenzo was 3rd.

Pagoda Mini Track
Peiffer Memorial Race September 21, 2008 - By Jim Bull Late September brought the first day of fall and another great turnout to the Pagoda Motorcycle Club. This day also brought the 9th Annual Peiffer Memorial and Mini Track Appreciation Day to Pagoda. Mr. Peiffer was a neighbor to Pagoda who loved to support the kids and every year he did something special for the little ones that raced on Pagoda’s mini track. At Mr. Peiffers passing the club members from Pagoda wanted to show their appreciation for his efforts so every year they designate a Mini Track Appreciation Day in his honor. There may be some of you that aren’t even aware that this track exists. It sits down over the hill
class. Racers rode everything from XR 70’s to KLX 110’s. These bikes teach the fundamentals of shifting gears while giving youth racers an opportunity to learn the in’s and out’s of racing under a more relaxed atmosphere. Bradley Kenny from West Chester, PA would be the star on this day taking his Honda to 3-1 finishes for the overall. Next up came the 50cc (4-6) Stock division and later in the program the 50cc Oil Injected divisions. Ultimate Champ Jordan Jarvis would win both 4-6 divisions with Christian Funk taking the 7-8 honors. Pagoda also offers a 50cc 4 Stroke and 65cc beginners class that race on this track. Bryner Barnhardt and Austin
Ultimate champ Jordan Jarvis wins both 50cc (4-6) divisions.
behind the bike wash and staging area. They offer classes for the youngest 50cc riders and for kids riding non race bikers like XR’s and TTR’s. The next time you’re there drop over between your motos and check out the action. This day brought a good turnout to the mini track with close to 40 kids competing there. Some of them may not continue their racing careers onto the larger machines but there are many who will cut their teeth here and move on to support the sport that we all love. Tracks like this are crucial to the future of our sport and I would like to thank all that volunteer their time to make efforts like this a success. The day kicked off there with racing in the larger machine 4 stroke
Daniels would sweep those classes respectively. Of course Pagoda offered their regular program up on the main track with many great battles being hosted there. Check the results here and log onto: Jimbullphoto.com to catch all of the exciting racing images. Pagoda’s next event takes place in early October with a Saturday night supercross followed up by a Sunday motocross featuring Delmarva Series points and just added, additional expert big bucks. I hear the payout is going to be good so make sure you’re there. Also please note that Pagoda’s event for October 26th has been moved into November so as not to conflict with the big year end shoot out at Doublin Gap.

MRA: Can you tell me the reason for the move? Your current facility is one of the best in the district. RK: The landfill approached us, they work 10 years in advance on land issues. There were a couple of reasons for the timing of the proposal but nothing is in works for the old property in the very near future. Our current home has been great to us for many years, and built by the sweat of the members, we will miss it. MRA: Where will the new Pagoda be located? RK: It will be two miles East on Rt. 422 just down the road. MRA: What is the time frame for the move? RK: The Conditional Use permit has been approved by the township, but there are a couple other permits we need to secure. Our goal is to start turning dirt in the spring of 2009 and the first race is proposed for July 2010. MRA: Can you tell me yet what the new facility will offer? RK: We are still in the early stages of the layout, but we will have a MX, SX, and a combo area for Short Track, Junk Car Track, and a Mini Track. All the things people have been accustomed to at our current facility will be at the new one only brand new and improved. We are going to have a road all the around the track with parking similar to Raceway Park. Parking is now a problem so we are putting a lot of effort into making that problem go away. We will also have an announcing tower and a RV Dumping station.

jimbullphoto.com
MRA: I hear Pagoda is moving to a new facility - is this true? RK: Yes, it is. We were contacted by the Pioneer Crossing Landfill about a year ago to see if we were interested in a like kind exchange of land. After some long meetings, we have reached an agreement with the landfill to move to a different location.
Bryner Barnhardt wins 50cc Four Stroke.
MRA: How long has Pagoda been a motorcycle club? RK: Pagoda M.C. was started by six
guys in a bar somewhere in the city of Reading. We have been at our Red Lane facility in Birdsboro since 1945. MRA: How long have you been running mx races? RK: We started holding dirt track races at the Reading Fairgrounds, Then moved to Hair Scrambles till we lost the use of the land that the landfill sits on now. Then in 1994 we started running motocross. MRA: Is it business as usual until the move? RK: We have formed committees to build the new Pagoda, but we will maintain and improve the old one till the day we turn over the keys. MRA: When you’re ready to move, how will the racers know? RK: Rest assured they will know. (I guess I could plug MRA and say since everyone reads the MRA every month we will print the date in the paper) But seriously the last race at Red Lane will be the greatest race ever held on that property. We owe it to all the club members through the years that have left their own money, blood, sweat, and tears to make the club the greatest place in the world. MRA: We’d love another interview when the time comes - will this be possible? RK; I would love to keep you guys informed on the progress of the project. You can call anytime. MRA: Anything else you’d like to share with the racers at this time about the project? RK: We would like to thank all the racers for participating in events at Pagoda; we put every possible effort into every race. It makes it all worthwhile to hear people say they had a good time. That’s what it is all about. MRA: Anything big coming up this year at Pagoda before the 2008 season ends? RK: Yes, our race on Oct 11-12 will offer Expert Big Bucks sponsored by VPE. There is a $3000 expert purse in addition to the 120% payback. 15 min. + 2 laps for 250 and Open A classes. MRA: RK:
Thanks for the update. You’re welcome.

New Business Profile:
MGX Unlimited
MGX had riders from all over the country using his product. Remember the concept “offer a better product than anyone else.” It was time for a new name and MGX Unlimited was the new answer. Today MGX Unlimited still has its roots here in District 6 and the MDRA and it’s a good bet that you can find Keith at a local track just about any given weekend. The fact is that they currently sponsor over 2000 racers nationwide. They just opened their 2009 sponsorship program and anyone is eligible to apply. You can send them your resume by postal mail or online thru Sponsorhouse.com. (Please, no emailed resumes will be accepted)
MGX Unlimited employees several full and part time employees.
It was just a short four years ago that an idea and a concept were born right in the heart of AMA District 6. The idea was to earn a living working in the motocross industry. The concept was to offer a better product than anyone else was. The answer was Motographx. At the time Keith Brown a resident of south central Pennsylvania was facing a career change. Keith had a young son racing motocross and both he and his son loved the sport. Keith knew that he wanted to work in the business while providing a service to the racers of the area. Chasing the American dream, Keith invested in some equipment and hit the streets or should I say the tracks and started his business of providing pre printed number plate backgrounds to the racers of our region.
Team Green’s Lowell Spangler uses MGX Unlimited.
MGX Unlimited does business from their facility in Northern Lancaster County but the best way to check out their new 2009 product line is to log onto their website at: www.mgxunlimited.com. There you can see all the new semi custom designs for 2009, just this year alone there are over 18 new options. If you don’t like anything you see, give them a call and let their design team create your one of a kind custom graphics. They cater to any design taste; MGX Unlimited puts you in charge. MGX offers full custom kits for all mx bikes - your the boss.
at the track I bet just about everyone pitted The 2009 designs are industry leading, around you is probably using Keith Browns and they look cool too. services. Go ahead, put the paper down and look around. My bet is you’ll see Motographx I was interviewing Keith and thinking back or MGX Unlimited on just about every bike to the days before Motographx opened for business. There were many companies in the around you. Look at the pictures in the paper, most are running MGX kits. It’s not that MRA business, but it seemed that unless a rider likes pictures of bikes with MGX graphics, had a deal with one of the larger companies, the fact is that the majority of the images we they pretty much headed down to the local capture and that includes most riders in our shop and bought some backgrounds and region use MGX custom or semi custom pre some numbers and their bikes looked liked printed backgrounds. everybody else’s bike except for the number on the side. The truly sad part about this was that it probably cost you just about as much if not more to have to run these truly generic set ups. The other option to dress up your bike was the sticker kits that the big sticker companies offered. They looked kinda cool, but they listed every company in the world except the one’s that sponsored you. How far can that go? Today, look around. If you’re reading this
What’s MGX Unlimited you ask? That’s just the new name. Motographx has grown so quickly that they needed to make a change. Motographx started as a part time company with big dreams and aspirations. Keith and his employees put their time and hard work into the company and by the spring of 2007 Motographx had acquired Vision Motocross, a graphics company serving the racers of AMA District 7. Keith began working with Sponsorhouse.com and all of the sudden
MGX Unlimited uses high quality materials, top of the line equipment and cutting edge designs to make your bike look the best it can both on and off the track. All of their employees are racers or former racers and truly understand and live the sport. Watch for the Vision Motocross van at event near you where you can get all the info you need about MGX Unlimited and maybe even pick up some free goodies along the way. If you want top quality graphics that last and if you want to look your best while chasing the checkered flag I’d say give MGX Unlimited a look. Fact is most everyone has and the choices are unlimited. So go ahead and be yourself, get your setup and hit the track, get MGX Unlimited.

Doublin Gap Motocross PA MX Round September 7, 2008 -
The novice divisions were full as usual.
On Sunday September 7th the PAMX Team Green Dealer PA State Championship Series came to Doublin Gap MX Park. It was possibly a small preview of what we may see come late October at this same facility. On this day we saw riders travel east to Doublin Gap from the traditional PAMX region. We also had a mix of riders that are competing in the MDRA Series and the Ultimate Series present on this day. In just a few weeks the top riders from these three premier series will be competing against each other for the first time in a race of this caliber to determine champions from all classes. Not only will class champions be crowned but an overall award will go to the series with the most class winners. Today’s racing saw winners from each series with a ton of great match ups crossing series lines. I’m familiar with many of the faster riders from our two local series, but let me tell you there were some guys out there shaking things up that I don’t know. The PAMX riders now how to get the job done and I’m sure they’re going to bring plenty of competition come shoot out time. Check the results here to see how your favorite racers did and keep an eye on the PAMX site as their series runs almost right up to shoot out time. Log onto: www.gopamx.com to follow along and see who will be coming to town. You can locate the top 15 from both the MDRA and Ultimate Series elsewhere in this issue as their series are already complete. Also log onto: jimbullphoto.com to see all of the

August 30-31, 2008 the rest of their holiday weekend. Life don’t get any better then that!
End the Summer with a Blast was how we advertised this event so the always humorous mother nature decided to Sand Blast us, do you think she just got the message mixed up?!
Brian & Executive Referee Todd made the right call by shortening the times for Sunday’s races. The decision was made for the safety of the riders and the life of the bikes. Zero visibility is never good tapped out in 5th and dust is an evil thing when it comes to a motor.
Northeast Offroad Classic at Ormond Farms was a SUCCESS! 400+ riders, perfect weather...for a sand storm that is....not even the Nor’east winds could blow off that dust. CLEAN YOUR FILTERS!! We had a great Saturday of racing that turned into a wonderful night rockin’ out to the Hammer Heads while we kicked back with friends talkin about the weekend events. The kids played in the bouncys, tug a war and other games with Ms. Anita, she does parties too..... Tim Dennis got great pictures of everyone despite the dust, he is the best! Crazy Ted was hookin’ everyone up with goodies. Riders Choice set up shop on the front lawn for everyone. AA Champion #356 Ryan Rodgers schooled the youngins with some great knowledge he has acquired over the years. He is a good rider, good teacher, good role model, good man and soon to be a good father to a baby girl. Good luck to you and your family. Thank you for being good to ours! Lovely Lois once again filled everyone’s bellies with delicious food, cheese fries were in every kids hands.
Pee Wee racers wait for the green flag.
Despite what the dust was doing to the computers the scoring was perfect. Lady Theresa, Jay & Mina did a fabulous job keeping track and making sure it was 100% correct. They are a great Trio of Computer Goddesses! (sorry Jay, I had to go there!) We can’t talk about perfect scoring without giving props to all of our back up crew and our sign up girls; you guys/gals did an excellent job! Every race went off on Key Time. At the end of Main Event the awards were being handed out with in 45 minutes of the last rider. 1:30pm the main event started and by 4:30pm everyone was heading home to enjoy
Chuckie kept everyone informed & entertained all day with his sound system and sultry voice. He also gave a beautiful blessing to start the races and to keep our soldiers safe over seas. We have a lot of riders that have gone over or have a loved one there, so its important we never forget where they are and what they are doing for us whether you agree with it or not. They are our brothers and sisters united through racing and it’s always nice to have people like them on your side. We want to thank everyone that donated money to help out Lil’ Cory and his family. Renee Sheppard made us proud to be an American when she sang the National Anthem for us. Lovely Lois & Mean Gene, as always, we are grateful for your generosity with your land. Allowing us to use it for what we love is something special. Many kids have had their very first race on your land and that is a memory that will stay with them forever. #218 Tabatha Roser won the Pit Bike. Congrats Girl! Okay, so now lets talk about the Sand bowl.....The Overall winners for the Northeast Classic were AA #356 Ryan Rodgers, C Heavy #240 Kyle Bylsma, AA Youth #300 Kyle McDonal, 7-9 65 #51 Gary Enman, 12 Pointer Pit Biker #9 Chris Curtis, Spike Buck Pit Biker #19 Jeffery Hall. All of you guys should be proud of yourselves for taking the overall. We were honored to give you the trophy and title!
Another great turnout for the NEOC’s inaugural season.

By Tim D. Photo there in the pit and woods. AA was taken by #356 Ryan Rodgers but the battle of the day went to the next in line. 2nd #104 Dane Schoeneberg & 3rd #173 Wesley Becker came to the flag bar to bar. A Senior class was a tight finish 1st #17 Greg Turner & 2nd #44 Alan Jessat showed all those youngins out there that its all about wisdom not the age, well that and a good sit in the hot tub at the end of night for the ol’ bones! You guys rock! B Super Senior also proved that wisdom rules over youth 1st #45 Paul Freeman & 2nd #577 Brian Vittorini put on a great show to get the win. C Heavy top two riders came to the checkered flag tire to tire with #240 Kyle Bylsma ahead by a knobby over #509 Travis McGee. AA Youth #104 David Worden took the holeshot and #300 Kyle McDonal took the win. 12-13 85 had a chase between 2nd #291 Jesse Davis & 3rd #160 Corby Gill. 7-9 65 and overall was taken by #51 Gary Enman but the battle of the PeeWees went to 3rd #20 Ryan Hall & 4th #110 Collin Kearney. They were sharing air space (what little there was out there) the whole race. 10-12el 3rd & 4th were going at it the whole race too, #911 John Dwyer finished just ahead of #909 Jonathan Hiles. 4-9el #198 took 2nd place while #199 Trevor Gandy pulled in right behind him but man, the whole race you just weren’t sure who was going to the barrels first. These 4 stroke beginner class are incredible! We had a great turn out for our Pit Bike race. The 12 & 10 Pointer Pro Pitsters were putting on a show for us. #9 Chris Curtis put on the biggest show of all though, He donated his winnings to Lil’ Cory to help out his family in their time of need. Thank you Chris. It was also a treat to have the Herrschaft boys out there dicing it up. There is nothing like a race with all the Herrschaft men baggin bars together. The youth Pit Bike race is always a fun event. The Spike Buck class is filled with boys that have been racing together for years now and to see them out there having a blast on those little bikes again is nothing but pure heaven! I have to say that it is becoming one of my

favorite races to watch. #19 Jeff Hall took the overall trophy home but they are all winners in my eyes! We know that it was tough out there with all the dust and heat choking everyone but other then that is was a top notch day and we are very glad that you chose to spend the holiday weekend here racing with us! Thank You to all our sponsors that hooked us up with goodies for all the riders. MOOSE RACING, Riders Choice, Rizzon Cycles, Fairway Cycle, Offroad Cycle, Scott USA, Town & Country, Water Gap Coffee Company, Klotz, TD Photo Imaging,
Not the best way to start the day.
Bounce Around So. Jersey & Lois Twigg for sharing her slice of Heaven with everyone. I am working on the Pictures & Videos......I will post them as I complete them but give me a couple days to do so; www.northeastoffroad. org ...Noel P.S. We want to personnally thank all the Pennsy folk for taking home all the chiggers and ticks with them. Us southern jersey folk appreciate it very much. By the way, nothing helps, they just have to run their course of about two weeks of insane itching and scabs. oh, and they will leave scars......See ya in a month! Dutchman MX Park Motocross – August 31, 2008 -
#41 out front and soaring high all day.
The Way I Saw It By Jim Mucklin
Round 6,The heat was on, both on the track and in the air. Big quads on the big track, if you never seen a Pro Am or A gate start your missing something, it’s really serious at the 30 foot mark. How these guys make it thru the first turn with open wheels and not hooking up is beyond me. Race of the day Pro Am, Lucadrelli on the good looking Honda out front with Lehr, Witmer, Walls and the rest in tow. I don’t think there was a minute between first and last on the first lap. Not a lot of bikes, big weekend with other tracks running but Tim Savidge on the green machine along with the B riders put on a great show. I can’t till some of this crew moves up to A, look out. Down on the quad track Travis “The Terror” Wotring is giving lesson on how to pass and make it stick. Young, Nichols looked good, if these two could get to the corner first, it would be the race to watch. Mr. Evans was all business on the #199. Some great racing, I would like to thank all the parents who came out in support. Things I learned today; I watched #177 get his first win in the 50 stock and then I remember it’s not the trophy it’s the
feeling, that will be there forever in this young mans mind. Just like the commercial where the lady stops the guy from steeping into traffic. I saw two young boys watch two parents help a young rider up and I could see in there face they got it. Just the way I saw it.

Owner - Reactive Suspension Inc. In the course of my daily labors I come across many things and some of them rear their heads over and over. The most common thing I see is lack of air filter maintenance, oh yes occasionally we have lack of air filter; you know a sock or panty hose stretched over the cage. Very chic, but it’s too often that I get a bike in for some type of engine repair and when I lift the seat I find a filter with no oil on it. An air filter with no oil is about as useful as a duck with a shovel. If you want to keep your hard earned money keep that filter cleaned and oiled and when I say oil I mean “foam air filter oil” The second most frequent faux pas is seized rear suspension linkage. I know it’s a job that ranks right up there with a colonoscopy but it has to be done. I’ve seen linkages in which the needle rollers have been ground to dust which leaves the bushing to bang about like a marble in a vacuum cleaner. The hole in which the replacement bearing should be pressed is now as round as a yield sign. New linkage pieces run around $125. and god forbid you do a number on the swing-arm, I’m sure it’s well north of five hundred bucks.

The latest thing I’ve been seeing repeatedly is that many people are installing their front axles by tapping them in with a hammer. If you must tap your axle in Engine Services Suspension Services Parts & Acc. use a plastic mallet. Using • Rebuilding • Re-Valving • Aftermarket a metal hammer raises • Porting • Rebuilding • OEM a burr on the edge of the • Machining • Authorized Race • Discounted axle and doesn’t allow Tech Center Price Phone: 610-367-1700 E-mail: suspensionGuru@aol.com the axle to position itself S562447 www.reactive-suspension.com correctly in the right side fork leg. If you want to check and make sure you are OK remove your front wheel and try sliding your axle through the right side fork lug. If everything is OK it should slide all the way through and out the other side. If it only slides in till the end goes flush and then stops you will have to bevel the edge on a grinder to remove the burr. If you don’t then chances are your fork legs are not running parallel to each other and you are experiencing binding. I always make it a point to instruct my customers in the correct method for re-installing their forks. The upper triple clamp pinch bolts should be torqued to 17 lb/ft and the lowers to 14 lb/ ft. Over torquing the lowers can close down the tube causing the upper bush to bind as it passes through that section of the tube. When installing the wheel, first tighten the axle nut then the caliper bolts and then the pinch bolts at the axle nut. That leaves only the pinch bolts on the right side axle lug, before tightening these take the bike off the stand lock the front brake and compress the forks hard several times. This will ensure that the fork leg is correctly centered on the axle.

9th Annual Paul Grumling Memorial Race Shippensburg Speedway August 31, 2008 -
By Len & Ben Breech
Shoemaker Stakes Claim To Paul Crumling Memorial By Len & Ben Breech After winning the 9th Annual Paul Crumling Memorial Race, Jake Shoemaker joined a list of National numbers and Horizon Award winners who have won this Labor Day Sunday night event. The race is named for the founder of Pro Plates who died from a rare blood disease a week after competing here ten years ago. One of the rules is a rider must never have held a pro license and it is open to any amateur rider on a 125 or larger machine, although a 125 has seldom made it. It is also the longest race (twenty to twenty five laps) most of these riders have yet to run. With none of the eligible riders doing well against the Pro riders or having equipment problems after the Amateur Nationals, there was no clear cut favorite like many other years. Perhaps a B level rider might win for the first time. The entrants were divided into three heats and a semi to set the twelve rider field. Wins went to Shoemaker,
250 Sportsman; (36) John Long
John Long and Jesse Long. At the start of the twenty lap final, Jesse took the lead from Shoemaker, John, and Dillon Cava. Entering turn one on the fourth lap, Shoemaker slipped under Jesse for the lead, with John right behind him. They then put some distance on Jesse, with John staying about a length or so back till the end. A companion Memorial Race was held for the youth riders on 100 based machines. That win went to 150 Air Cooled winner, Colton Smith, who easily won over Jeremiah Snow and Dustin Healey after early leader Tyler Stacey broke off the fourth turn on the opening lap. The margin tightened up at the end when a red flag was thrown for a downed rider and a green-whitecheckered was run to complete the race, but the order stayed the same. In the regular program, Nick Henderson took the Open A and
Paul Crumling winner (55) Jake Shoemakeer
Open Sportsman finals. In the Open A, he grabbed the lead from Shoemaker, Austin Greenland and Chris Klinefelter and gradually pulled away. In the late laps, Klinefelter pressured Greenland for third. He again took the lead in the Sportsman final from Dalton Winkler, Klinefelter, Shoemaker and Greenland. Klinefelter took second on the second lap while the others fought for third that went to Greenland on the sixth lap. Shoemaker pulled out on the final lap. Mighty Mite, Healey, scored a pair of hard earned wins in the 65 and 85 classes. Cameron Smith led the 65s with Colton, Healey and Tristan Avery behind. Healey did an outside-inside pass off four to take the lead at the end of the second lap. Colton took second off two as Cameron began to slip backwards. Healey maintained a constant margin to the end. In the 85, he took the lead at the start from Cameron, Colton and Ryan Varnes. Colton used an outside line to get by Cameron by the third lap. Ryan Connelly took the 125 lead and pulled away from Becca ZafiaKevin Bills-Snow tight battle for second. Team Phillips, Tyler and Brad, led the 250 B final with Erin Kissinger, Bills and Zafia were behind them. Brad took first off two on the third lap, while Kissinger and Zafia fought over third. Tyler tried to get under Brad late in the race going into one, but he fell. Jesse Long had an easy time winning the Open B, while John withstood two red flags and Roy Miller’s pressure to take the 250 Sportsman. Miller took the 30 + over Cava then Rich Mellinger got by Cava on the fifth lap for second. Nick Taylor almost scored an upset in the 40 + riding Dave Yasher’s vintage Yamaha, but Mike Mester had a slightly better drive off

McManus and Stevey battle in C class racing action. Stevey (71) goes on to win both 250 and Open.
Labor Day weekend brought round 11 of the MDRA Race Series to the Sleepy Hollow Motocross Park. The weekend started off Sunday with an open practice day followed by racing on Labor Day Monday. Bright sunshine greeted the racers on both days making for some great riding conditions and the folks from Sleepy had their track in tip top shape for the MDRA faithful. Right down to business, the Open A group were first off the gate. Many of the areas fastest racers turned out to compete with Team Green rider Lowell Spangler making a holiday appearance to his home track of Sleepy Hollow. Spangler’s first race ever was many years ago at this same facility and on this day he let the rest of the expert field know why he has excelled so far in this great sport. Spangler won all four expert motos and most without much challenge. He did have some stiff competition out of West Shore Suzuki’s Willy Toth in one of the 250 A motos but Spangler was able to squeak by when Toth went wide in a corner on the last lap. Other exciting racing action took place in all of the School Boy and amateur motos on this day. The young group of racers that will advance to the A divisions in the next year or so is tremendous in their abilities and consistent with their efforts. Names like Garret Toth, Kyle Sidle, Cody Lunceford, Dakota Yohe and Matt Hougentogler. Names like Walker. Kastle, Good and Sparks, they were all there. The list goes on and on and please don’t be offended if I missed you. This list is so deep that the expert gates will be full from one side to the next in the very near future and my bet is that the current guys are watching
and they know they’re coming. The big question is, will you be there when the gates drop? And what will the outcome be, some of the best racing we’ve seen
Joseph Galbraith soars to the win in 85 (9-11) C.
in years I bet. Go even further and look at a couple of the novice guys that are cutting their teeth and low and behold there’s that Supermini division. The racing out of this group is always good with today’s event being no exception. Jesse Pierce had a pretty good hold on the first spot today but beyond that the action was intense. There were two and three way battles the whole way thru 9th place. These guys can fly. Today’s round was the next to the last of this years series and by the time you’re reading this recap it will be all finished up, champions will be determined and the waiting will begin

MAMA held its 12th event of the season on an unseasonably hot and humid weekend at Delmarva Motorsports Park in Seaford DE on the 13th and 14th of September. Open practice was held Friday afternoon and the regularly scheduled oval track Friday night events featuring mod-lite and sprint car racing was canceled due to rain showers. The rain did nothing to cool off Saturday’s events which started with the usual first round of practice followed by 5 motos consisting of Senior Open/ Support, Collegeboy, Schoolboy 2 Stroke, Women, and Super Senior Open/Support. Practice resumed after the first round of motos and the day wound down with the second set of motos followed by a pit bike relay. Sunday brought another hot day but the breezy conditions made things bearable. Morning practice was followed by 18 motos with 341 registered riders. Overall winners taking home 100 points for the day were Zachary Miller #773 uncontested in the 250A class, Travis Daum #207 in the 250 B class, Dave Desell #51 in 250 C Division 1 and Brandon Lehan #713 in 250 C Division II while Seth Allman #667 ran alone in 250D. 4 Stroke Motorcycles; Explained. Part 3 By Tommy Pickup General Manager TNT Cycles www.tntcycles-atv.com Well another month has past and here we are again. Last month we left off at the proper maintaince requirements of the four stroke engines. This month we will dive a little deeper and discuss a top end teardown. Our first order of business is to wash the unit. Then remove the plastic and tank and wash it again. The last thing you want is dirt falling into the exposed engine parts. Now, clean a suitable work area and a spot on the bench for all the parts. You will not need any special tools, but it will help if you have at least some tools that are not so special, but beyond basic. The first is a place to wash parts, like a parts cleaner. If you do not have one, several cans of contact cleaner, and a dishpan tub will do. The next would be a ring compressor … needed more for the assembly,
but still needed. It is not a necessity to have one, but these new four strokes have very thin rings to reduce drag and can be a bit of a pain. Now, with the unit clean (see pic1), a nice neat work area, and our tools at hand, we can begin. The first place to start is at the valve cover. Loosen the bolt that secures the valve cover and remove it. Then remove the spark plug. Now any time I remove the plug, I use a little compressed air to clear the dirt. Next we want to remove the timing plug (see pic 2) and the crankshaft hole plug (this is the plug that lets you turn the engine over slowly). Place the proper wrench on the crankshaft and slowly turn the engine over while watching the valves. We are looking for the intake valve to get compressed and then come up. This lets us know that we are coming up on top dead center on the compression stroke. This is where the engine needs to be in order to set the proper cam timing. Now start looking in the timing hole for your TDC mark. Sometimes it’s a line or a T, it depends on the manufacture. If your unsure, watch the intake valves go down and use a small screw driver and place it in the spark plug hole and feel for the piston to come up to TDC. Now with this done, we can look at the camshaft and observe the timing marks. If you have two cams, sometimes it’s helpful to count the pins in the chain between each cam at some reference point.
Next we want to remove the cam chain tensioner (see pic 3). With this out we can remove the cams from the head. A word of caution here. Most new four strokes use shims to adjust valve clearance. Do not mix these up as it will increase the difficulty of re-assembly. Also, if your engine has bucket followers (YFZ, LT-R etc.) do not mix them up between valves. Take your time and mark everything so assembly is easier. Take the time to clean everything in your “parts washer” and inspect for wear. Now, with the camshaft out, take a 12 to 14 inch piece of wire and attach it to the cam chain and let it drop down the hole. Some models have little 6mm bolts on the side of the cylinder head and cylinder. Remove these. Next, remove the Cylinder head bolt in three steps in a crisscross pattern. Do not loose one all the way up and move to another. Next, remove the cylinder head, gasket and dowel pins. If the pin is stuck, be careful, as they damage easily. Next, if the cylinder has them, remove the cylinder bolts and the cylinder, taking care not to let the piston fall out and hit the cases. Now, place some rags into the crankcase hole and remove the one circlip in the piston. Remove the pin and piston. With everything disassembled (pic 4), clean it all up very good with a solvent and then hot soapy water, and then spray a light coat of WD40 on everything to prevent rust and displace the water. This is where an air compressor comes in handy! At this point its time to inspect everything. If it’s simply a top end rebuild than you want to look at the cylinder. If you do not have the mics, take it to a shop and have it measured to see if its in tolerance. Also, now is the time to take the head to a certified shop and have the valves checked and/or replaced. Well this raps up this issue. Next issue we will discuss putting it all back together again.
