Our Mission Statement:

Combining the most desirable phenotypic and genomic traits to meet the production demands of the Nebraska Sandhills and the consumer demands of the American beef industry.

Welcome to Bowlin Cattle Company’s 2023 manifest of planning and hard work. We love the seedstock business and are passionate about raising quality. We are honored to have your attention and interest in our bulls. We may not be the biggest seedstock program around, but small is just concentrated power. We’ve been able to select our breeding pedigrees carefully and deliberately, and we strive to offer the best bulls possible for this area in conformation and genetic value. We feel blessed to share this passion with each other and other producers around that have become our customers. Bulls born and bred to work in the Sandhills will work almost anywhere else. Besides having the deep, easy-keeping design, many of our bulls have elite EPD profiles that rival the bulls promoted in semen catalogs. Responsible seedstock producers need to consider all aspects of a bull’s genetics so we continue to invest in genomic data for our entire herd. We pay attention to all EPD values but always consider foot quality and fertility along with the desired phenotype when making our own breeding decisions. This will translate to longevity for our bulls and both immediate and long-term benefit for our customers. End product value is the ultimate goal of all cattle producers so that’s why we have identified bulls qualifying for the Certified Angus Beef brand.

We have individual performance data on each bull and would be happy to have you come and look them over. Our ration this year is 90% ground teff & alfalfa hay with no distillers added, but our ADGs are still pretty impressive. We would be glad to help you sort out which ones may benefit your operation the most, whether you’re looking for calving ease, maternal ability, performance, carcass or all 4. They excel in natural thickness, structural correctness, and maternal traits, with special attention paid to foot quality. We sell mostly yearling bulls because they offer the most economic value to our customers in terms of days on the job. We also offer a few 2 yr olds which are easy to make look good, but a high quality yearling with expressive maturity and growth is the best value for your genetic investment dollars. Don Ravellette is serving as our marketing agent again as he had the opportunity to look at the bulls during the photo session and he will give you his unbiased evaluation. We are mostly a 1 man, 1 woman operation but still couldn’t do it without a great backup crew. Absentee bidding is available and encouraged if you are unable to attend in person. DVAuction.com has both the video and catalog online for your convenience, and a live feed on sale day. Supplements and Sale Order:

A sale order sheet and breeding evaluation results will be available on sale day. Every effort will be made to offer a catalog free of errors but in case we miss something, announcements from the auction block will take precedence over printed material. A full EPD profile is available on Angus.org on all registered Angus bulls.

Performance Information:

All performance information and EPDs on the registered bulls are generated from the American Angus Association. Commercial bulls have actual performance information listed.

Genomic EPDs and Certified Angus Beef:

All registered Angus bulls have been genomic tested and parent-verified using HD50K. The bulls genetically qualifying for the Certified Angus Beef brand are identified with the lot information. This logos identifies bulls that will sire calves that make money on the grid.

Bull Delivery:

Deduct $100 off your total purchase if you take your bulls home on sale day. All delivery and housing of bulls will be at the risk of the buyer. Good care will be taken through the post sale and delivery period. Cattle will not be delivered without payment unless prior arrangements are made. Delivery will begin soon after the sale and be free within Nebraska and to central locations in neighboring states. We will assist all buyers on safe & reasonably priced delivery.

First Breeding Season Guarantee:

Bulls selling for $3000 or more are guaranteed through the first breeding season defined as 60 days following 1st turn out. If a fertility problem occurs preventing the bull to perform as a breeder, a replacement bull of comparable value will be provided if available. If a suitable replacement is not available, credit for the full purchase price will be given, less salvage value of $1500, will be issued to the buyer for next year’s sale. Please notify us as soon as possible should an injury occur and prior to the injured bull being sold for salvage. All claims must be made by September 1, 2023.This guarantee does not cover poor management or neglect. All bulls will have their first dose of Fusogard for foot rot prevention and we highly recommend a second dose prior to turn out. No further guarantee of foot health should be needed.

Insurance:

Martin-Trudeau Livestock Insurance will be available sale day. Call Ray Trudeau, 605-770-5170, with any questions. His insurance covers mortality and infertility for a full year.

Breeding Soundness Guarantee and Herd Health:

The entire sale offering is guaranteed to be reproductively sound in accordance with the terms and conditions recommended by the American Angus Association. (Angus.org/pub/suggested_sale_terms. pdf) All bulls will be evaluated by Wards Veterinary Service for breeding soundness and that information will be available on sale day. Health certificates for out of state buyers will be available on sale day.

Retaining Interest:

We are retaining a 1/3 revenue sharing semen interest in all bulls. 100% possession goes to the buyer.
