A NOTE FROM RPI PROMOTIONS
Cattlemen, As we have traveled in all four directions this winter, taking pictures for bull sale promotion and attending sales, there has been extremely cold weather; and now the snow is really starting to pile up in our area. It has been a challenge for us to get photo days set and organized. With this being said, our job doesn’t hold a candle to those who have been feeding, calving, and trying to protect their cattle from mother nature this winter. We want to remind those who have been stressed by winter and have had a lack of sleep, to make sure when they get into the feeding tractor, vehicle, or operating any machinery that they take one moment to look around and make sure all is safe in front and behind you. Accidents can happen in a split second! Being aware of what is around you can save a life. We have had some great sales through February. There have been a lot of bulls moved and cattlemen are still demanding ownership of the good ones. Performance bulls have been in the most demand in our area. Our genetics are more predictable than in the past and as cattlemen, we should be able to work with a wider spread of numbers in the calving ease department. Cow size and phenotype of the bull you are using will play a huge part in those decisions. It is important to discuss that information with those of whom you purchase your seedstock. I highly recommend taking the time to visit with those seedstock producers. Their recommendations will mean a great deal. As you look through the March issue of The Cattlemen’s Invite, you will see a powerful set of genetics in the seedstock raised by these families. Not only are most representing some of the top genetics in the country, there are a number of producers offering new and exciting bloodlines. We cannot believe that all our herd bulls will survive the test of winter. There will be some losses due to these cold temperature. If you cannot test your bulls early, buying a few extra bulls now will allow you a better selection of bulls to fit your individual needs. The selection narrows to a very thin line late in May and June for your bull selection. Don’t be caught having to “take what you can get.” Let us know if we can help in the remaining months of the bull sale season. We will be traveling the country looking at cattle and attending livestock sales. We would be glad to help. We will publish an April issue of The Cattlemen’s Invite that will be out the first week of April. We would be excited to help you promote your upcoming sale in any way.
