With the social networks and new technologies, the magazine aims at openning the door to all these underground artists whose the talent just waiting to be put in front of the stage. MERO... I wouldn’t say that there is a “NEW” Montana Mero. What I will say is, now people can get to see a side of me that they’ve never gotten the chance to see before. They might even hear me talk about topics I never talked about before. But now that I’m solo I have complete creative control over my project and it feels great! Since 04’ I was known as “Montana” from The iLLiance but I think the change to “MERO” represents the growth and progression of my career. I’m about to take it to the next level with my new records as I expand my horizons and broaden my spectrum on music. THE ILLIANCE... I don’t know, that’s a crazy question but as of right now its looks like its definitely over for The iLLiance as my solo career is really starting to take off. We were a group during 10 years together, ever since we were kids you know! I will always have the utmost respect for Sin, but I just had to do me, you feel me? EXPERIENCE... Well this is my first time ever being solo, but I am definitely an experienced artist. What I bring to the industry is the complete package. See, a lot of artists have hot beats, but have mediocre lyrics or have great hooks with bad verses. Others have good verses with bad hooks and so on, you catch my drift? I feel there

aren’t too many artists out there that have it all and I think I’m definitely one of them. I have great lyrics, great hooks, and great beats, and I believe you need all of those elements in order to make a great song in my opinion. No disrespect, but I think that’s what sets me apart from most artists today. STUDIO... I have many different studios that I work out of. In the Bronx, Queens, a couple in Manhattan and a handful on Long Island. Pretty much whatever Buro I am in I am able to record. Currently I don’t own one at the moment but I am actually in the process of building one. HIGHLIGHTS... Oh man, I feel like my career hasn’t even started yet LOL. I’ve performed with Maino, Red Cafe, Cassidy, Action Bronson just to name a few. Had a meeting with Roc La Familia. But I want to say performing at Virginia Tech was my favorite musical experience so far. Performing in front of 5,000+ fans is such an amazing feeling. It’s actually indescribable. PAID MEN... is doing very well! People really like it. I’ve been receiving a lot of good feedback on it. It already has thousands of views and over a thousand likes. Can you present your EP « Body Say No, Heat Say Yes » in three words! Fun, catchy, and uplifting – just listen and you’ll find out :) How did you hook up with « Team CashCash »? I ran into them in NYC right after I graduated. Soon after ; we got together and started writing. Has the Australian Tour been your biggest Highlight so far? Touring in Australia was definitely amazing. Being able to share my music and do what I love has really been the biggest highlight of my career. How did the Australian fans welcome you? I think, in the beginning, they didn’t know what to expect, but everyone was really so supportive and welcoming. As a New York Native, do you think your city gives a lot of opportunities for independant artists who want to shine? Definitely. NYC has so many venues for musicians to share their music. Whats even better is that NYC also has tons of people who want to listen. What do you love the most about your city? I love that it feels like it’s own country. There really is no where else in the world like it. What do you hate... That it doesnt have a beach. Have you collaborated with artists beyond the borders so far? No I haven’t but I definitely would like to! What’s the main message behind the single « Let’s Go »? The message behind “let’s go” is simple. It’s a song about unity and bringing everyone together. Its purpose is to spread the message that even what seems impossible is possible. The video went viral very fast ! Do you think Youtube is the best way to promote your music today? Definitely. I love youtube. Really it’s all of social media that makes promoting music easier. 2014... what are you cooking for your fans? Well I just started the first of many radio tours. Currently I am in Florida. I am also excited to announce that my music video for Body Say No, Heart Say Yes should be out sooner then later. No date set though. How Is the local urban scene where you live? I am from Birmingham Al but Lived also in Las Vegas, NV. The local scene? well... there are not enough outlets for Independent talent. I will say also it’s lots of greats hidden talents like myself who just need more opportunities. The Thing you love about your city? I love the magic of my city. it’s full of dreams. People like myself and Ruben Studdard who have big dreams and pursue them by launching outside the box and collaborating with great music supporters like Mr. Dreamz Magazine. The Thing you hate about your city? The lack of opportunities unlike Atlanta and Los Angeles and even New York. We are stuck in few sound and we need to expand more, allow more independent artist who have a crossover sound in the doors. How did you get into music? I got into music via church. I sang in church choir since I was 3 years old performing lead vocals, learning songs and praise dancing. It was always my dream to be a big star and share

my musical stories and...oh boy! so many story’s do I have! Any Highlights? I will never forget. Your projects... My single “Explode” concept was my coming out introduction to the world. I feel like once my talents realized, I will make the world shake lol! So that title seem so appropriate and the lyrics are just about fun and partying . Upcoming videos? Maybe, I sure will consider it. where do you come from? Where were you born? Bossanova: I am from North Carolina, Rocky Mount I was raised up in Pennsylvania, PA so I’m a city country boy. Now, I’m in Washington, DC and I’m takin over the city until I move on to a higher realm. I’m from both so, with my rap style, I have so many different ways to express what’s goin on at the time so I love being from NC and PA... the best of both world’s. City: I am from York, Jersey. I’m a city boy with that country raw style I’ve been in North Carolina for a lil while now it’s so different here, in Carolina as far as the music and the sound but i’m back and forth to DC recording, meeting up with Bossanova or Cypha and our manager Wayne Webb. I’m just getting the feel for this area we are taking over, what ever area I’m in. 360 Cypha: I’m from NC as well as the rest of the clan but I was back and forth from Rocky Mount to DC. I grew up in the quarters. It looks so different now but we all jump off the porch in NC! Peace God, my whole CTK crew is from the city with down south roots, that’s what makes us different and classical group. Peace God, Allah peace to the Tru and living! How is the local Hip Hop scene in your city? Bossanova: The hip hop scene in my city is crazy. I’m in DC so eve-rybody trying to rap like Wale or Fat Trel and that’s fine. They are amazing artists but I think the other million rappers in my city should venture off and go to different cities and get up a following. Most of the time, if you’re from a city, most of them don’t wanna see you make it. They rather see you down then on top that’s why I’m trying to get to ATL and hook up with guys or ladies that have the same drive as me and want the same things I’m striving for. ATL is like the only city that provides real opportunities for independant artists. That’s why so many artists are coming out of ATL. So shoutout to the whole ATL, I Fuck with cha! We next up. I’m the hottest in my town and aint nobody fuckin with me. I rap and sing and there is no industry comparisons! That nigga Bossanova can’t be compared nor Cypha. That’s why we made moves to a different city. There is not much to say about the music here. No substance at all! 360 cypha: Well, I’m in DC so it’s a lot of people here who are tryin to be who they’re not and a lot of people here rock with the CTK movement because of the sound and the quality of the music! It’s crazy the chemistry my team has and DC is full of rappers but only a couple stand out! The thing you love about the City? Bossanova: I love the city I’m in. It’s fast and a lot no sleep going on! Hustles, pimps, women and hood repping here but it’s the history of the town that makes it special. Historical monuments and buildings that will blow your mind, Obama and the Secret Services drive pass my

I always say Obama is a boss and my city is full of style and people who have talent and I think DC has been slept on but as long as I live here, I rep DC to the full! City: I don’t like my city. It’s full of drama, haters! It’s wack here but I make my best because I have a lil girl here in NC. I have to take care of her so that’s the only thing keeping me motivated and keeps me movin and willing to risk it all for her. So yeah my city is ok but the music here is copy cat everything and that’s something I don’t do! 360 cypha: Not much to say, Bossanova and City pictured well the situation. We trying to hit other towns and network and meet people so when the time comes for us to take that next step, we will be prepared and ready for what ever! How did you get into music when you were younger? Bossanova: For me, it was growing up with my pops playing Piano every morning before school. I was no older than 7 and it was all I wanted to do. When I was 14, he asked me what I wanna do in my life and I Said “a rapper”. He jus looked at me and smiled and said “Go for, but have a back up plan” but I heard the song renegade by Eminem and Jay z and the way they flip their words and style... It gave me the inspiration. I started to writte R&B music instead of rap. i didnt really have that down yet but I kept going and became better and better. I gained different styles and it went from there now. I sell my hooks and songs and write as far as my group, we write our on music. How did you get your artist names? City: I remember when we were on our way to Jersey City from New York and I thought “damn... City” and once I moved to the south, it stuck with me. 360 Cypha: I did a lil time and I found God and I gain that name and the rest is history. I don’t wanna get into deep about my name but just know I’m bringing that conscious rap back oh lord. The BUZZ... Man the buzz is getting huge in the area that I am, in DC and I love it! We’re bringing diverse controversy to the music. We’re bringing substance and will bring consistency to Music. We’re always going to bring something new. We love to step outside the box and do different things. We got the song by Hell Rell from Dipset and the buzz just got even bigger. We did a video and we snap and hell rell f****** with this! Holla at other people and artists, it’s all about networking and as far as my name, I’ve had several names until I came up with one that really hit me. My name came to me in a dream. I was out on the big stage, huge crowd and the guy that was announcing me to come out was like snapping and he said “Bossanova”. I later did find out it means “new trend” and that’s crazy because we’re bringing new trip to the game!

City: the buzz is growing. I think our music is diverse and it captures the attention of all types of people. Our strongest quality is that we can’t be fit into a box! Cypher: The buzz is growing. It is only getting bigger out of everything we have done so far. A lot of people didn’t know we rap but now they do and we’re here to stay CTK! Any Highlights... Bossanova: Well the first biggest highlight in my life is the fact that I have a son. He is four years old and that’s why I do this for a while. I was a single parent but now I can really get out here and handle my business. he is the reason I do this and the reason I don’t mind struggling to get out here. He is my motivation. The second thing would be meeting my Manager Wayne Webb. That guy believes in me. I remember when I met him. I was rapping in the studio and there was a crowd of people there and i had to show that the boy that just moved to DC from NC was dope! And the third one is CTK! We go independently and has that major label backing us distribution deal. City: Well 5 months ago, my life changed. I became a father to the most beautiful little girl in the world. She is my all. So I have to grind for her Now! The second highligh is watching my team evolve into the artists that they have become. We all come from different parts of the world and people see the creativity that take control of us and that’s a good thing 360 Cypher: Well, the first biggest highlight is my kids. I have two ones and I’m grinding out oh lawd and I have to become that positive role model for my kids. I read somewhere that you are about to work with Waka Flocka? Can you tell us more? Rumors or Truth? Bossanova: Well, as far as Waka Flocka, yes we are trying to get up with him to work with him. My manager talked to him. We had to send music but we were kinda having a problem with his email and it just

wasn’t working out that day. We were trying to send it but if you read this Waka... “hey you ready to work with some grinders, they do all type of music! get at me now! I’m not on yet but we do got a paper to give to you so let’s work. My team is ready for whatever artist that wants to come along and hop on the track now. We have been getting in touch with Fred the godson and we’re going to be working with him soon as well so whoever artist that wants to come along and get it in with us, we’re always willing to do something serious & consistent! Violence in Hip Hop? Bossanova: Music is an expression and I really think violence in music has always been a problem for the newer generation. People just don’t realize that music was made to make people feel a certain way... But you have to stay wise and make the difference between what you hear through songs & the way you act in the real life! What is your message for kids...those young Hip Hop addict!? Bossanova: Music is a self expression. If an artist feels that he needs to reveal his feelings, emotions, he can do it via ART. Music is always changing and you have to stay hip to what’s in. I let my 18 year old niece hear my music. She is a rapper out the DMV. She is gonna be apart of CTK soon so be on look out. She has a video on YouTube called “Bad” check her out! Bossanova; The song kilo came about where I want all women to feel important and feel worth something... their valuable (kilo) is worth a lot of money and you know how they say “woman are dimes”. Was the song ‘Tudo Pa Bo’ decisive for your career? In some markets, it was decisive for my career. The song got international recognition. But in my core markets, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and São Tomé & Príncipe, earlier releases such as ‘Razao d’nha Vida’ and ‘Fofo’ were decisive. Even today, I can’t afford to do any show in those markets without performing ‘Razao d’nha Vida’ and ‘Fofo’. But of course, ‘Tudo Pa Bo’ had an impact in the Francophone Zouk markets, Africa as a whole, and other international markets such as the Netherlands, Brazil, Curaçao and the Zouk and Kizomba scene worldwide. It got to number one in the mainstream urban charts in the Netherlands, and many still view it as my best song to date, and some of Africa’s best songs ever.

You have been in the industry for more than 15 years... After so much time in the game, How did your music evolved? When I started my career, I was more into English language R&B. But my first album was mostly Cape Verdean, and mostly the type of music that I describe as Pop Coladeira. Later on, my music evolved into Zouk, my third album ‘Tudo Pa Bo’ was a classic Zouk Love album. Then, I continued with Zouk Love, but incorporated other styles as well, including R&B and bachata. Looking at my upcoming album, to be released before the summer, I’d describe it more as a Latin Pop album, although you can feel the Zouk beat in many of my new songs. As the Diva of african zouk music... What’s the secret of your longevity? In my core market, I don’t only have one hit song, I have many throughout the years. Somehow, many of the melodies are that strong and the fans keep on asking for those songs, whether they are songs from the 1990’s or recent successes. My lyrics also appeal to many, especially women. At live events, many fans chant most of my songs word by word, they feel recognition in my lyrics, they have good memories listening or dancing to my songs. I often receive performance requests for wedding anniversary events, because it was on one of my songs that the couple first met and danced. And when it comes to my recent releases, even though the vibe can be different, it is my voice that remains recognizable. Raised & based in Netherlands, are you happy with the place of Zouk music today in this country? Zouk music and tropical music don’t get a lot of airplay on mainstream radio and TV networks, even though the music is hugely popular in clubs and in the major cities. It’s also a pity that Zouk music has primarily developed into club music, not only in the Netherlands but worldwide nowadays, most Zouk performances are playback, whereas in the 1980’s and 1990’s, performances were mostly done with a live band. Do you feel more comfortable when you sing in Portuguese or English? Most of my songs are in Cape Verdean Creole, a language influenced by Portuguese. Since I’ve become accustomed to sing in Creole, I feel most comfortable to sing in that language, because I feel and understand the emotions of my language. But I do like to sing in English as well, and with the right song and the right lyrics, I do feel the emotions of that language as well. One of my upcoming singles, to be released in 2014, is an R&B track called ‘No Chaser’. Although most of my songs were in Creole and I frequently sing in English as well, I’ve also recorded songs in Dutch, Spanish, French and Portuguese. 26

What’s the story behind it? Zouk producer Ronald Rubinel proposed the music to me. I started to write the vocal melody and the lyrics, together with Beto Dias. When recording the vocals at Latitude 101 Studio in Paris, I had a slight cold. Because of that cold, my voice probably sounded a little rougher. The video we shot in Rotterdam probably added to the magic. At that time Cape Verdean music videos were mostly of poor quality. The ‘Tudo Pa Bo’ video was more professional than Cape Verdeans and Zouk lovers were used to. Of course that’s all different now, but at that time, it probably added to the impact the song had. In the Netherlands the song reached the number one positions in the mainstream urban charts of both The Box Music television (MTV networks) and FunX radio, the first and only Cape Verdean language song in mostly English language music charts. Cape Verdeans in the Netherlands were proud and spread the world internationally. It all added up. For our readers, tell us what is ‘your top 3’ biggest hits in your career? That’s a tough question, because it depends on the local market. Some songs were big in one country, others in another country. Internationally, ‘Tudo Pa Bo’, my recent hit ‘Tardi Di Mas’, and Kora Awards winner ‘Nha Sonho’ were probably my biggest success songs. But in many countries, I can’t do any show without performing ‘Festa Mascarado’, ‘Pensa Na Mi’, ‘Razao d’nha Vida’, ‘Fofo’, ‘Silencio’ and many more. After so many hits, what are your challenges? My new album, to be released in the first part of 2014, will be my most personal to date, most songs are self composed. When composing new songs, I’m always trying something new, trying different musical directions. I’m not used to fall back to old success songs and repeat the same style over and over again. That would have been the easiest way forward, but I just can’t do that because it doesn’t give me any creative challenges. In the past few years I’ve done a bachata, I recorded some English language dance songs, and my new album will be very different from all I’ve done before, although the Zouk beat will still be here. You have traveled a lot so far! What’s your best trip? That’s another tough one. I had many good trips. I’ll never forget the Kora Awards in Johannesburg, South Africa, nor my Brazilian tour bringing me to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Brasilia. But I had so many good trips. I’ll always remember a live show in Luanda, Angola, where women in the audience started to cry when I sang ‘Razao d’nha Vida’ (the reason of my life), a 1999 song that even today touches the hearts of many fans. For all the readers (especially the men), are you single? I prefer to separate my private life from my professional life. But to answer your question, no I’m not single. What is your type of men? Honest, straightforward, not someone who believes life is about money and expensive cars. If you believe you can impress me by showing off with materialistic stuff, you’re wrong.

“My dreams are not so much for myself, but more in general. I don’t like it when an eight year old girl is chanting ‘oh mama, mama, I just shot a man down’. I know there’s not much I can do about it, but why are we giving so many bad examples to our children? Why do we encourage young girls to dance like Miley Cyrus? I’m not naïve, I know there’s not much we can do about it, but I do believe many artists are acting without being conscious of the message they give to young children. On a broader level, my dreams are related to ending misery in the world. It is heartbreaking to see images of ‘napalm-like’ school bombing in Syria while the world is not acting. Why do we allow this to happen?”

Do you plan on going into other things like acting? Singing? What are your other talents? I sing, have been singing most of my life and I would love to do some acting.

At what point in your life did you know that you wanted to be a model? I started doing commercial modeling at age 13, so I’ve wanted to be a model as long as I could remember.

Tell us how you are unique compared to other models. what do you bring to the modeling industry? I am unique because I am natural, all of my curves are real I have never had body enhancements and my personality is genuine, a lot of models are pretty and have nothing else going for them but there looks. How is the modeling industry in your area? It’s pretty small, there are few opportunities because the women here are willing to work for free, so often times I have to travel.

If you had to sleep with one woman who would it be? Megan Fox. Do you own any adult videos? No I mostly watch them from my phone. Tell us something your parents don’t know about you… Where do I start? lol What is your secret fantasy? One night with Nas!

What characteristics are the most important to succeed in this industry? Branding and consistency is important, your face will get old fast.

What is, for you, the definition of a DREAMER? A dreamer is a person who invisions a plan and goes out and gets it.

Who would you say is the personn that did really inspire you? I would say Tyra Banks. She is transparent. She is like a chameleon, she can go from slim muscular to curvy and fit. She is also a brown skinned beauty.

What is your dream as a model ? To be on every cover on every newsstand and get more thick/fit curvy women to appreciate their bodies without shame.

Another sound from Netherlands... Where do you come from & How did you start producing beats? I’m from Utrecht / The Netherlands & I started producing in 2010. I wanted to produce for a long time but had no idea where I could find the right production setup. I was 15 years old when I hit up a music store in my area and they told me to start with FL studio so I bought it and definitely enjoyed it! What is your main inspiration? What is the process in creating music? I listen to many genres. It helps me a lot to create my own beats. I listen to a lot of rock music too. Sometimes, i have some breaks in order to reload myself and avoid the saturation, the lack of inspiration. It makes me create a powerful music. You can hear in my productions different sounds influenced by all these genres. That’s why i am so versatile and creative. Please describe your sound? My sound is different. One of my main concerns is to not sound like other producers. And I work hard to get my own unique sound, something very recongnizable for the public. I hear too many artists who sound the same nowadays. I want to bring something new. What type of material do you use to create music? I start with my guitar to get some nice chords for my beat. After that, I’m using my keyboard to fill it up, FL studio is one of the programs I use a lot, but I’m trying to work with other softwares as well. The more experiences I get, the better it is.

If you could be in studio with a famous artist, Who would he be? With Michael Jackson if he was alive. He was a great musician. His music still inspires me. It sounds like music was better in the past. Your first hip hop krush? Originally, I come from Turkey, but born and raised in The Netherlands. First artist who really caught my attention was Sean Paul. I bought his ‘’The Trinity’’ album when I was a kid. Krazy story... One day, a friend of my dad introduced me to a producer who worked with Pitbull and other big names in the industry. He taught me a lot about music in a short time and it really helped me. It’s crazy how my music got much better after that day, unbelievable. Your projects for 2014? I got an upcoming EP with Freezer Beats. More projects with MakeWay Productions, the team I’ve been with since last year. Why are you the next Hip Hop fan’s KRUSH? Most producers stop making music after a short time because they are only motivated by money, but the thing is, If you are not able to love your art, then you are not able to make money & expand a solid network. I believe in my music that’s why I’m getting better everyday. My dream is to get bigger and work with other talented musicians from everywhere.
