AJIBADE “There are a lot of young guys that fantasize about older women, straight up! I’ve had a few experiences myself with cougars and there’s something very alluring about a strong, sexy, independent woman that draws young men to want to get closer.”
Born with a majestic gift for music—fit for a king—Ajibade was crowned with the name that upholds his royal Yoruba heritage. A Nigerian native hailing from the bustling capital city of Lagos, Ajibade moved to the United States as a young boy with “music in his head”. The only one of six children with any musical aptitude, “Aji”—as this vocalist, rapper, and producer is also known— remembers hearing the Bubblegum pop song Sugar Sugar by The Archies on the radio before leaving Lagos, then landing in the US and being invited by Prince’s party anthem to “party like it’s 1999”. As an adolescent he sang with the gospel choir in his junior high school as well as in the church then began rapping after high school to keep up with “what the kids in the neighborhood were doing.” Perhaps this ability to appreciate assorted styles of music is what has led to the creative richness of his cleverly eclectic and soulfully energetic sound that seamlessly blends hip hop with reggae dancehall, R&B with Caribbean rhythms, and classic soul with pop just to name a handful of genres that speak to his wide-ranging tastes. Officially evolving into a self-proclaimed “fusion producer” in addition to musician in 2000, Ajibade says “everything” when asked about his musical influences, as “all music that he comes across” inspires him to make “things happen” in his recording studio. Behind the scenes he’s “able to draw from all these areas and everything comes into play when he is in production mode.”
Having worked with and learned from some of the best in the music industry, his most cherished experience is with Ann Tillman, the co-founder of Destiny’s Child. She was a great inspiration to him and many others and was also a wonderful friend. Ajibade has also worked with Oji Pierce, producer for Montel Jordan, as well as many underground artists including Bushwick Bill, App, and James Kirt. Currently signed to 26th Element Records, which is distributed by Bungalo Records/Universal Music Group Distribution, Ajibade’s new EP Bad Boy In Disguise is set for release on March 25th 2014. Featuring six sizzling songs that will keep your body in motion from the moment you press play to the time you push repeat, his latest single Cougar Love immediately grabs the attention of Cougars, Cubs and everyone in between. This provocative track is a sexy, fun, club anthem that slaps on and off the dance floor. It definitely gets the party started, keeps the conversation going, and just might get you lucky! Proceeding to take you on an unforgettable ride with the seductive song High Definition, followed by the undeniably rhythmic Magical Woman, pulsating That Body, smooth Under Cover, and the sultry remix of his smash hit Waiting For You, Bad Boy In Disguise is a non-stop, up tempo party in a digital world with Ajibade’s one-of-a-kind voice and accent serving as icing on the cake.
OUR MISSION
We are very excited about the Cougar Love Remix and the response we are getting has been great. This summer kicks off the release of ‘Cougar Love Remix’ on July 4th and from there we would like to take it further with shows at multiple venues close to home. We also have plans in the works for a “Cougar Tour” beginning on the West Coast with anticipations of continuing on to the East Coast. This year doesn’t end with our summer plans, from there Ajibade is more than determined to release a single at least every two months. He has another high energy song coming soon called “Excuse Me Lady’. Currently, Ajibade is collaborating with various artists, one being Winstrong, who is a highly talented reggae artist and they plan to put together something magical for 2015. Other artist Ajibade will be collaborating with this year are Frankie Fe’arri, LT and Flight27 to name a few. Ajibade is also working on an EP with an Afro Beat influence with the help of the Afro Funk Band, Lagos Roots. Ajibade is no doubt, ready for the world. He would love to travel and perform for people on all continents, so being able to network and build as an artist to bring his love of music to all is very important to him. Ajibade feels that Africa is a country where with the help of those with good intentions, limits are boundless. He is very passionate about doing some great things in Nigeria, saying, “You can reach a lot of people through music.” The sky’s the limit with Ajibade and he’s ready to soar.
