Welcome! At the very start of this project to edit FINE, we warned the team that we intended to be very hands-on editors. We feared they would be taken aback by our control-freakery, but actually, we found ourselves entirely at home, as we have never met a team so dedicated to getting everything done right - and to enjoying themselves in the process.

Hennessy Celebration

Zenith Boutique opening in partnership with Hennessy

The Little Europe Family celebrated the opening of the first Zenith Watch Boutique in the Western Hemisphere with a 150 Year Anniversary event in collaboration with Hennessy for an exclusive Cognac tasting. The evening introduced St.Maarten to the international commercial director of Zenith , who graciously presented several exclusive Zenith timepieces in the presence of a cognac expert, where guests had the opportunity to savor the flavors and aromas of three different varieties of cognac. Zenith and Hennessy share common value of tradition, both belonging to the prestigious LVMH group. For both Maisons, the 2015 is a special year. Zenith celebrates its 150th anniversary while Hennessy its 250th. Above all else, their LVMH partner, Little Europe celebrated the beginning of its’ 40th year on St.Maarten. During the event, the limited edition Rolling Stones Zenith watch was launched along with the groundbreaking “Spindrift” timepiece commemorating the winning sailboat used during the America’s Cup. Zenith watches are famous for several reasons. Firstly, they are the only company in the world allowed to have the title “PILOT” engraved on the dial of a watch, since they were the first watch to take flight in aviation history. Secondly, they are the first watch to break the barrier of sound from the stratosphere in 2012, with Felix Baumgartner, the first man to free fall from space at an altitude of 38,969.4 meters, wearing a Stratos Zenith watch, highlighting the extreme resistance of Zenith watches. This event for family and friends once again put St.Maarten on the map as a luxury shopping destination. ¢ |6

Between guests, employees, officials and toasts the Le Grand MarchĂŠ Group executives Danny Ramchandani and Anil Sabnani, together with Jean Despointes, President of the Safro Group, inaugurated the Carrefour Market in St. Maarten. Carrefour - meaning "crossroads" and "public square" in French - is one of the largest hypermarket chains in the world. D

Don’t be afraid to dive deep, but make sure you can swim out; I have always taken calculated risks,” declares Anil Sabnani, Managing Director and owner of grocery store chain Carrefour and the Le Grand Marche group of companies.

From Sabnani’s humble beginnings as the son of hardworking Indian parents, Singapore proved to be the global financial center with a multicultural population which fueled him to venture out on his own, landing in the Caribbean at age twenty-one, with food empire ambitions. “When my father lost his fortune I had to be taken out of school because my parents couldn’t afford to school two children. My older brother was finishing his year at university; I had to make a serious plan of action. “I began working in a grocery store in St. Kitts but I had enormous vision. It humbled me and taught me to always remember the value of each customer.” With dreams of one day owning his own stores and invited by his now-partner Deepak Ramchandani to join him in the booming food industry on the island of Sint Maarten, the Le Grand Marche group of companies was born. “My aspirations were to create the best and largest superstore on Sint Maarten. The only reason I have gotten this far is because of my staff and the people around me. They are my true passion; I wouldn’t be anywhere today without them. My favorite thing about this island is the multinational mix of people and personalities and the endless opportunities if you work hard.” By day, Anil is all business: land investments, sales, management meetings and his philanthropic work with the Sint Maarten Rotary Club. He is heavily involved in fundraising and social work, assisting underprivileged children island-wide. By night he loves the cinema and dining with longtime girlfriend Lorena Nieto or his wolf pack at the numerous restaurants around town. His other life’s work is Hamir, Puja, Reshma and Vivik. Anil works to ensure a better life for them than he had, so they may achieve their ‘personal empire’ dreams as well. To his own and the next generation of masters in business and community, he offers this advice: “Your word is everything you have. The day you lose that, you lose all. There is always beginning to a ‘better’ ending; don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty!” ¢

Rolls-Royce design and engineering teams worked to initiate a new age for open-top, super-luxury motoring. In a sector exclusively populated by the biggest of automotive compromises – the 2+2 seat configuration – Rolls-Royce has chosen to “accept nothing nearly right or good enough.” And so, the new Rolls-Royce Dawn, the world’s only true modern four-seater super- luxury drophead, is born. The new Rolls-Royce Dawn greets the observer with a striking yet elegant exterior design with classic Rolls-Royce appearance and presence. It is the most vibrant Rolls-Royce yet with charming and alluring qualities that bring a new level of finesse, sophistication and refinement in a drophead coupé –

a serene yet exhilarating sense of uncompromised freedom. It offers a new level of effortlessness and a relaxed sensory experience with an underlying exhilaration and dynamism. All this without a single compromise to comfort and space. This new Rolls-Royce embodies dynamic and social qualities that will attract a broader, younger and more socially-aware audience around the world. Contrary to media speculation, the new Rolls-Royce Dawn is not a Wraith drophead. 80% of the exterior body panels of the new Dawn are newly designed to accommodate an evolution of Rolls-Royce’s design language and to encapsulate highly contemporary, four-seat super-luxury drophead architecture. The aim was clear. To do what no other car manufacturer had achieved so far – make a car that looks as beautiful with its roof up as with it down. One could almost say that the result of the design team’s restless endeavours has been to make the new RollsRoyce Dawn two cars in one.

he new Ducati Scrambler Italia Independent is the result of close collaboration between this new Ducati brand and Italia Independent, a creative and stylish company that blends fashion and design, tradition and innovation. Produced as a limited, numbered edition of only 1,077 bikes, the Ducati Scrambler Italia Independent offers an original and unique interpretation of the Bologna-made motorcycle, sophisticated and elegant at the same time, while maintaining all the key characteristics of the Ducati Scrambler.

The Ducati Scrambler Italia Independent stands out thanks to a series of carefully crafted details that have been developed together by both companies’ design teams. Each bike is embellished with an aluminium plate laser marked with the bike’s serial number, features the Ducati Scrambler-Italia Independent logo and is characterised by fuel tank side panels and both the Night Copper-coloured frame and wheels. Other unique features of the Ducati Scrambler Italia Independent include the black engine with machined cylinder head fins and other machined details in full view, the Termignoni exhaust with black pipes and silencer covers, the low tapered bars and lowslung aluminium rear view mirrors. Moreover, the short front mudguard, the “café racer” nose fairing and leather seat with Night Copper stitching with an embroidered Italia Independent logo on the back emphasize even more the unique style of this edition.

Dom Pérignon Vintage 2006 Another sunny vintage,or the diversity of fully ripe harvests ith the announcement of the 2006 vintage, Dom Pérignon has dared to create no less than its fifth successive vintage champagne.

W

It stands by its decision, unprecedented in the history of the Dom Pérignon label. The first decade of the third millennium could well rank among the greats, the golden 1920s and 1960s. The climate has continued to warm gradually since the 1990s. The benefits for Champagne are unanimously recognized: in addition to more regular yields, we have also seen an improvement in ripeness and vineyard conditions. For generous vintages, there is the aromatic ripeness of 2002 and 2006. The wines appear to be of a more classical nature, but they are pushed to their paroxysm, such as the virtual over-ripeness of a 2002 Chardonnay, with its creamy, sensual and surprisingly suspended body. Dom Pérignon 2006 goes a long way to express ripeness, with a modern touch that might well foreshadow other, even more unique situations to come. We must keep in mind that 2006 was climatically irregular and generally hot and dry. Ultimately, we owe this vintage to September. The harvest, lasting nearly four weeks, was one of the longest on record.

While a precise correlation cannot be established, it can be noted that the maturation of the wine and 2006 grapes certainly reflect each other. Time is of the essence in the revelation of Dom Pérignon champagne. At Dom Pérignon, time is neither linear nor predictable. It is organic, active, and energetic. Time prolongs all that nature and heritage have to offer by opening up a whole new creative space for the winemaker. DOM PÉRIGNON VINTAGE 2006 The seasons The weather in 2006 was mixed, but warm and dry overall. The almost summery weather in September made the vintage possible by drying out the few patches of botrytis and maturing the grapes far more than usual. Nose The immediate impression is of the mildness of the pure, airy, bright bouquet. A floral, fruity pastel tone then unfolds and quickly darkens into candied fruit, ripe hay and toasted notes, with hints of licorice. Palate The wine’s opulence – contained and succulent, round at heart – reveals itself in the mouth as the wine becomes more complex and edgy, silkier than it is creamy, eventually melting into an exquisite bitterness tinged with the briny taste of the sea. 25 |
