Chapter 1: All about Westward Expansion Westward expansion was really popular after Lewis and Clark had gotten back from their expedition and published their journals and that’s what made everyone want to move out west.
Louisiana Purchase In 1803 Thomas Jefferson was president and he made a choice to buy the Louisiana Purchase from france and because of buying the Louisiana Purchase it had doubled the size of the country and in total it was 828,800 square miles and 2,147,000 square kilometers. The land was so big that the land coasted a lot more than what the price would if we bought just Fort Orleans and Louisiana Purchase had cost $ 15 million dollars. after buying the Louisiana Purchase overnight The land of the Louisiana Purchase was so big that it doubled the size of the country. The land of the Louisiana Purchase was mostly prairies but the land further to the west is rocky.
Lewis and Clark Expedition After purchasing Louisiana Purchase president Thomas Jefferson had asked Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to take this journey to the west and to explore unknown land and president Thomas Jefferson said to make sure it was safe to set land. It took a while to prepare for the expedition but it wasn't long before they left in May 14,1804, at St. Louis. The journey was long and hard so they had to have a lot of men so they had taken 38 other men along the journey. Their group was called the corps of discovery. Lots of the members were sickened or hut during the expedition. Lewis and Clark weren't familiar with the area so they had followed most of the Missouri River and along the way they tried to stay on the prairies . The indian tribes were one of their troubles along the way, Few of the indians were fridley but most had threatened to kill. The journey back was hard because on the way there they didn't cover as much land as they hoped so they had to split up to cover more land and find out more. When they arrived at St. Louis ever won greeted them with such joy.

Westward Expansion In 1804 Meriwether Lewis and William Clark had set off on their journey to discover the Louisiana Purchase. When Lewis and Clark had gotten from their journey in 1806 and published their journals every one wanted to move out west because they described the Louisiana Purchase so well people were eager to move to the west for better land and animals and that's when Westward expansion took place and about 34 years later people had started moving west, so then they turned their faces toward the land of golden promise and set off on their journey west. Most men and women had left the other family members to set off to the west. Many people moved west because of Lewis and Clark's journals 500,000 people moved west during the trip to the west family's needed a way to communicate so the pony express took care of that.
Chapter 2: All About the California Gold Rush First piece of gold In January 24,1848, James Marshall was working on his sawmill in California as he was fixing the wheel to get water from the stream and on to the wood while he was doing that he was by the stream he saw something in the stream so he took a hand full of gravel out of the stream and sorted through it until he saw something sparkling again but this time he grabbed it and then he noticed it was gold so then he was trying to decide if he was going to tell everyone and he and he wanted the news to spread quickly so he had a newspaper man spread the word and the newspaper mans name was Sam Brannan he was the one to spread the word and that's what started the Gold Rush.
The Gold Rush In January 24,1848 the gold rush started thousands of people were headed to California to try to strike rich and that was every ones wish but only like 15 3
people and about 5 copnies had those dreams come true. The trip was full of hardships many people didn't survive but those who did were the one hoping to strike rich, the travelers didn't have a path so they used the oregon trail or traveled by boat but those who traveled by land had used covered wagons or foot and horse. Most men had worked 16 hours a week and 2 to 3 hours a day. A lot of the californias were not aloud to pan or mine for gold. A lot of companies moved to california to claim spots by rivers and the ocean.
Chapter 2 Question 2 How did they get gold Many of the miners had moved west to claim land and start mining all of them wanted to strike rich but only a handful of people got gold. Most shop owners made more money than the miners did because the miners needed supplies really bad so all the shop owners had to just raise the price and then they would make 2 times as such as they would if the price was the same that's why most of the mining companies moved to California. The shops usually had boots,jeans and gloves,hats,pickaxes,pans,wood. The Gold Rush took place at the west coast of Sierra Nevada and Northern California gold fields. Lots of men came all over the world to mine Gold at the Gold Rush.
Chapter 3 Their was a man named James Marshall he had discovered the first piece of gold at his saw mill it was called sutter's saw mill and because of that people were eager to go to california to become rich and when everyone heard the news they moved to california and because so many people were there the population grew and grew to about 5 to 10,000 people if it weren't for gold the population wouldn't be as high as it was. The california Gold Rush was a gathering of people from all different cities states and contents to try to strike rich and the only way they could get gold is determination and determination is key to achieve hops and dreams and ever miner is determined to get gold.
