The first stage of a mantis life cycle is the egg. In summer the praying mantis lays 7 eggs and ends up with 50-400 mantis from 1 egg. All the baby mantis fight their way out of their egg. All the baby mantis go on their egg case or a nearby branch. The mantis waits 1 hour for its skin to harden.

The second stage of a mantis is a nymph. A nymph is when the mantis is born to when its grown up to an adult. Even though the Nymph is young it is still a good hunter. When a Nymph is scared it sinks in the ground and turns camouflage. Later the Nymph runs away to safety. The reason why they do this is they don’t have wings yet.

The nymph sometimes lunges (lunge means to run fast). At its predator.It faces its predator head on. Sometimes it scares its predator much bigger than itself. How A Mantis Protects Itself
A mantis needs Small insects to eat. Some praying mantis sit still to attract prey. Then they charge at their prey and use their front legs to kill the prey. They bite and chew their prey with their strong jaws.
Some kinds of mantis look like flowers. This helps them attract prey and hide from predators. Author Mantis can hurt their predators by using their front legs.
Where Praying Mantis Live Praying mantis are found in every place except Antarctica. But most live in… South America, Asia, and Africa. They usually live in forests and grasslands.
