Have the Republican Era presidents of the 1920s been effective?l Life is pretty good for all Americans right now. Taxes are down, worldwide peace has been secured, the economy is growing, and we have never felt safer. This could not have happened without the Republican Presidents who have led our great country into an era of prosperity. These Republican Presidents have certainly had their faults. Scandals, excessive products, inflated stocks and striking workers are all reasons why the Republican era presidents have not been effective. But is all of this really the fault of the presidents? The Teapot Dome Scandal had no effect on Harding's presidency. Excessive products could be blamed on false advertising and the need to keep up with your neighbor. Inflated stocks? No president is telling you how to invest your money. And worker’s have always been fighting for fair wages.

If you really want to look at the effectiveness of the 1920s presidents then you need to look closer at the facts. The Republican presidents kept us out of war by creating friendly relations with countries around the world. They shut out any fears of radicals taking over by deporting thousands of suspected radicals. The stock market boomed under their leadership. In conclusion the Republican presidents helped America greatly. They boosted the economy by 42% in the years they were in office. Safety for American citizens was at its peak in the 1920’s. As Stuart Chase once said “Productivity per man has made phenomenal gains; the national income, both in total and per capita, grows greater every year.” This is all because of the Republican Presidents, people.

Return to Normalcy

What is the “return to normalcy” promised by president Harding and it will be good for America? By: Luke Meyers

Have you heard of the return to normalcy? The return to normalcy referred to returning to what life was like before World War 1 occurred. Warren G. Harding was running for president in 1920. His campaign slogan was “Return to normalcy, a return to the way of life before World War 1”. There are many ways that the return to normalcy will be accomplished by Americans. Harding wants to withdraw America from all war and isolate ourselves and focus on our own problems. He wants to put tight limits on how many people could immigrate to America.

Many benefits would come from returning to normalcy for America. The American economy would have a boost and the citizens of America will become richer. America could become superior to other countries if they isolated themselves to focus on themselves. We could be out of all war and conflicts. The return to normalcy will be good for America for many reasons. The economy will get a boost, that means more money for citizens. We will not have to focus on war and conflicts because we have isolated ourselves to focus on us.

Deregulation: The Economic Savior

Has deregulation under the republican presidents benefited america? By: Izzy Dykstra

Deregulation is when the government decides to make rules on the economy much much less strict hoping to increase economic productivity. President coolidge kind of let the economy handle and take care of itself for a while, he believed that the government should have a very minor role in human life and the economy. This approach to economics paid off, between 1923 and 1928 corporate income rose 28% and industrial wages went up 8% . The unemployment rate also declined to 3.7%, income

Tax rates lowered and federal dept began to shrink. Business began to take off and owners began treating employees better. Deregulation also benefited the working class by cutting hours and wages rising, While this was happening the stock market boomed. While critics believe that deregulation will bring on economic recession and these positives are only temporary, but the results don't lie deregulation might be one of the greatest advancements in the american economy so far.`

What now?

Have the foreign policy goals of the republican presidents made America safer and is war over? By: Ava Walker

The war is now over. Great Britain and France are creating a treaty called the Treaty of Versailles. It’s a peace treaty that is making Germany have a smaller army. This was a decision was made without Germany. The U.S. will not be signing the treaty. The U.S. Senate declined it. The League of Nations will not accept the treaty either. After the war the U.S. will go back to being isolated. This means we will stay out of foreign affairs and focus on ourselves. The U.S. will not join the League of Nations because we don’t need to help the old world. Most Americans believe the U.S. should be isolated after World War 1. However Warren G. Harding wants friendly international relations. Harding worked with Germany and Austria to secure peace. To make sure they couldn't start war again they held the Washington Naval Conference. There they established guidelines for submarine usage and weapon reduction and naval disarmament (reduction of naval weapons) was also established. The U.S. also creates the Kellogg-Briand Pact. This outlaws war. It was first an agreement between France and the United States that outlawed war.

The pact spread and in the end 62 nations signed the pact which rejected war as “an instrument of national policy”. The U.S. has now decided to help Europe with it’s war debts. They created the Dawes Plan which says that America would loan money to Germany, who had the most war debts and a crashing economy, to be able to pay back Great Britain and France, who paid back America. Doing all these things made America safer. Being friendly with everyone makes everyone happy with America and have no reason to start war with the U.S. and makes America safer after the war.

How far is too far?

Have the Republican presidents gone too far to combat the Red Scare By: Lauren Trent The Red Scare was the widespread fear of the uprise of Communism. This fueled a lot of fear in everyone around the world. People became filled with fear when packages started appearing with bombs in them, some of them exploding and killing people (38 people). Most of the things that caused the fear came from violence. This lead a lot of people to think it was the communists fault, or the political systems fault and how they were being treated. This eventually led to over 3,300 labor strikes, raids on suspected radicals , people join organized crime groups. How the government responded to it has people questing if they went to far with their efforts.

the government raided the headquarters of radical organizations, arrested thousands of suspected radicals, and thousands of radicals were deported if they thought they had anything to do with the attacks. The things the government had good intentions. With the things they did it was to protect the citizens, and for them to do that they needed to get rid of the suspected people/ radicals before they caused more damage and killed more people in the process.
