Group Editorial How have tradition and modernism clashed in the 1920? Modernism is taking over the century. Modernists are changing the way people are dressing, teaching, and acting. However, traditionalists are not wanting the change. They are wanting things to stay how they are, not wanting people to dress, teach, and act the way they are starting to. Traditionalism is starting to fade as modernism is becoming more popular. Traditionalism is safer and more known since people are not risking anything. It is a way of living where people don’t feel the need to live up to much. Traditionalist are usually people from older generations and people who value things from older generations. An example of a traditionalist would be parents who do not agree with the way their children are changing. Such as more scandalous clothing, smoking, petting parties, and how their daughters are more involved in sports. They think that these changes go against what they believe in.“The pure modernist is merely a snob; he cannot bear to be a month behind the fashion” -G.K. Chesterton. This quote shows how some people look at modernist as not good and kind of mean. However, we think traditionalists are stuck in time. Traditionalist are holding people back since they don’t believe we need change. Without the change that modernism brings, we will be behind in the world. Women in the United States are starting to vote and gain more freedom. They are becoming more active and independent, taking more risks. Fashion is changing to allow more movement, and personal expression is important to young people. Modernists are challenging the traditional roles of men and women, and of young and old. Change can be difficult, but it’s what we need to move forward and keep evolving into creative individuals in an ever-changing world.

The Gibson Girls Change Into A Whole New Women Where Have All The Gibson Girls Gone? By: Sadie Koski
The Gibson Girls have become the authority on American beauty.. The women have an hourglass body type, floor length skirt, high collared blouse, upswept hair, and were supposed to be flat chested. Women began to go on strict diets because of the Gibson Girls. Traditionalism was being replaced by modernism. American society has become deeply divided. Traditionalists do not approve of changes, but modernists embrace these changes. Modernists view traditional value chains that restricted individual freedom and pursuit of happiness.
Women have changed to be more confident. Women's attitude has become more sexier and daring. Everything has changed to shorter skirts, longer waists, bare legs, and short haircuts. They have begun to wear more makeup and heels. Women's values have changed. They have begun to drink and party. Smoked cigarettes. Danced in public at shows. Women have become more independent and confident in their own skin.
The 19th Amendment has given women more independence. This gave women the right to vote. It is also the beginning of women's right expansion. It also has given women more freedom in clothing and more daring.

Evolution VS. Creationism Should evolution or creationism be taught in American schools, and what’s the deal with the Scopes Trial? By: Eva Schrader Recently John T. Scopes was arrested for teaching evolution in his biology class. There are some people that think he didn’t do anything wrong, but others don’t agree with him. Some people believe in creationism, some evolution and others might not believe in anything at all. Evolution is the theory that humans, through natural processes, are all descended from a common monkey ancestor.
The people that disagree are called traditionalists. Traditionalists are people that believe creationism should be taught in schools. They think that schools should teach God in schools as well as in churches.
Creationism is the belief that humans were created by God. It is not by a natural process.
John T. Scopes was arrested and then charged.
The people that do agree are called modernists. Modernists believe that evolution should be taught in schools. These people were on John T. Scopes side about what he was teaching in his biology class.

How Women Have Changed Is new women’s fashion a threat to American values? By: Carsyn Fedeler At the beginning of the 1920’s women’s fashion is changing a lot. Women have just gained more independence, including the right to vote. Women also have just started working more out of the house. This freedom has also reflected on the fashion of this decade. Women are now more free and also dressing more mature. Younger women are starting wearing what older women would wear. Everyone wanted to be like a Flapper, a modern girl. This also affected how they styled their hair. Girls are starting to cut their hair shorter. The new style of clothing shows more skin and is more of the scandalous type. The skirts and dresses are getting shorter and showing more skin. Girls are cutting their hair shorter and styling it more. The girls are going from wearing corsets with long dresses to wearing short dresses with see through tights. Girls are also starting to be more involved in sports. This lead to them dressing sportier.
All of this change is leading to girls to be involved in more than sports. Girls are going to things called petting parties. A petting party are were there are a bunch of people together. At these parties there are a lot of kissing and fondling but no further than that. The parties and the way women dressed are making people look down on the women. Since they are dressing more scandalous they are attracting more boys. Girls also are dressing more serious, they are wearing dark clothes with old victorian styles. They are clinging more towards edwardian clothing. The values of the women are becoming lower. Parents are wanting girls to change because their skirt was too short or they are showing too much skin. Young women are becoming more attached to going to parties and going to go hang out with boys and less with their friends and family.

Woman Fashion Is taking a big turn! Is new women fashion a threat to american values? By: Abby Hall
If you are a women think about how you and your friends dress now and how you used to dress a few years ago. I know that I wear a lot of different stuff now in order to keep up with the latest fashion.
Cut your hair, make it short and cute! All of the men will go crazy for you. Another reason for you to cut your hair is if you go on walks, bike, or race car than it will be easier to wash and take care of.
I used to wear long dresses that went to my ankles, and I know that most of you did to, but now we are changing and becoming our own people, and that means that we also needed a new style! Everyone was and still kind of is obsessed with the Gibson girl style, but we are changing that and becoming more free, and lots of people don't like that. Have you been called a flapper, or told that you couldn't play sports because you are a girl? Well that's all changing now we wear shorter dress that help us move fast and freely.
As you all know us ladies are starting to dress more scandalous and some people don't like that very much, but I say if enough of us are changing at the safe time then maybe people will start to accept it more. So stay strong and keep being you, dress comfy and be free.
Another way to become more up date with the new styles is to

Screaming Twenties Are the youth of the 20s destroying American values? Sarah Roe You might have heard of ̈the roaring twenties ̈, or something similar to that, what does that mean you may ask; it's the only decade in American history that has a nickname. The twenties is the age of romance and excitement, it is a building block on America's way to the modern age. The popular culture and wild outbreak is where the name comes from. When it came to something as simple as clothing or even overall appearance, it was all formal. Women had to wear long and neck high dresses, which eventually we were not very fond of. Everyone found it unfair how constricting the clothing was, the style then drastically changed to shorter clothes, looser dresses, they were free of choice. These choices revolutionized all clothing for women, it became more excited to even be a woman. This put a new look on all girls, which generally made them more attractive. This brought the idea of traditionalism or ̈living a simple life, very hard. In other words, modernism is easier because they tended to be younger people who wanted a more exciting life. This new affection for girls and new sight on them lead to ̈petting parties ̈ A petting party is a social gathering in which couples engaged in amorous kissing, caressing, and fondling. This activity actually became a normal thing. Instead of studying and being with their family, children were going to these parties. It was like they took their normal lives and tried to blend it into what had become popular. It was eating dinner with your girlfriends parents for the first time, to sneaking out to do this.
These parties changed so many children's perspective on what the meaning of life was. Aside from these parties there isn't much to do, therefore, the kids should have been doing something to better themselves, like school work or get a job. In today's life people on ever communicate via cell phone or some other electronic, but back then they didn't have everything we have now. They actually had real in person conversations with each other. Children are listening to radio shows, and any music they can find. Maybe there is something more in the future. I see children running around, talking to their peers, and just hanging out. People generally seem happier with the fashion change and new technology. The newer technology is giving kids and even parents more things to do. When shorter clothing came to be we felt more free, and although we got looked down upon everyone seemed to enjoy it. Women overall became more attractive and that's when petting parties came to be. What people are doing is awful, and it's really bad. People think it's okay, but it's going to reflect on this part of history. We don't want citizens to think we are bad people, but I think we are really taking our childhoods for granted. We only get to grow up once, and I think we could better our worth, for a meaning in American History.

The Cultural Values Change Are the Cultural Values Of Cities Good for America? By: Nevaeh Giberson The economic, political, and
In the 1920’s most if not all of us lived in rural areas but when we heard about the countless number of urban jobs, technological innovations, transportation, and housings they had to offer we all had to get a move on fast as we could. We all left the farmers and rural lovers behind to start our new lives. Sooner or later people started referring to them as “hay seeds” or “outsiders” we all started to look down on all the people who still lived in the rural areas. Sooner or later a tide of economic and social change swept across the country which caused the nickname for our time to become “the roaring 20’s” . It conveyed lots of excitement for everyone including me. None of us could ever imagine the things that were being introduced to us in the 1920’s. Then a big wave of radio and cinema jobs contributed to the development of the nations media culture and technology.
technology developments heightened the popularity of jazz music and economic growth. African Americans were a very highly influential in the music and literature industry, their contributions were a big part of why our age is now called the “jazz age”. Later mass consumption became a little bit of a problem for us and when I say little I really mean BIG!. We started to grow out of material abundance of the new mass productions and consumption economy, which increased wages for the urban middle classes. The increase mass consumption caused lots more pollution, garbage, and plastic for us which is terrible for our world and causes our wildlife and sealife to be at risk, and risk for the people!
