The Inventions that are Ruining America Are radios and movies making america's brainless mindless zombies? By: Santizo Aubrey Not only is it radios that are bad but movies are just as bad if In the 1920’s America was becoming the land that people dreamed of. Women were gaining the right to vote, immigration quotas were being established, and lots of more new things. Two of the biggest things that happened was Lee de Forest making the first practical radio signaling system and movies finally having sound. Although they were new and fancy and everyone wanted one, they may not be as good as everyone says they are. Starting with radios, it’s just another way for businesses to annoy us with ads. Secondly, scientists have done studies showing that people who live close to AM are %70 more likely to catch leukemia than people who don’t. Not only do they harm your health, they also harm you mentally. Playing inappropriate songs and talking about inappropriate things like jokes. Not only do they do that, but they also give biased information on different people, political events, and even society itself.

not worse. First and most importantly, it can be unhealthy and even harmful to our bodies. Scientist have proven that watching intense scenes in movies can make your heartrate go rocketing up and it has led to heart attacks. It can also promote bad habits like smoking and drinking which is in almost all movies, and that can lead to an increased chance of a stroke and brain damage, loss of sense of smell and taste, and ultimately even death. Watching too many movies can lead to vision problems and loss of physical activity. Along with all of those problems, movies can influence you to do bad things. One influential trait movies frequently show is violence. Movies are more often than not, violent. It has been scientifically proven that children who watch violent movies grow up to be convicted of crimes. It doesn’t matter if you’re a boy or a girl. Girls who are exposed to violent movies are more likely to grow up and throw things at their husbands and boys are more likely to be violent with their wives. Not only that, but we are also wasting money on these movies when we could be putting that money somewhere actually useful. Like improvements in public schools, military, and medical and health programs. Besides that, some movies have biased information in them. The opinion of one person matters in movies and that is the producer and they usually make their movies agree with them. Another thing that is one of the worst things about movies is their disrespect for law. You see so called “super heroes” and good guys shooting at cops and breaking public property and people totally overlook stuff like that but in reality think about how much people get away with in movies. The problem with that is some people think that hey can get away with the same type of stuff and it ends up getting them in trouble. Not only does it affect those people, it also makes police seem like sort of a joke and that people can get away with anything. Scientists have proven that you are not as aware of your surroundings when you are watching movies than you are when you’re not watching movies. In conclusion american’s are being turned into brainless mindless zombies. With all these problems, how is this one of the most popular sources of entertainments? Because quite simply, american’s are being turned into brainless mindless zombies . 4

News at the Speed of Sound Did radio and movies give Americans access to new information or turn them into lazy, mindless zombies? By Ella Saunders

Americans were not turned into “Lazy, mindless Zombies”. The glorious invention of the radio is a window into some of the most interesting and action packed cities in the United States. The radio brings the access to news, sports, advertisements, and entertainment to your fingertips since all you have to do is turn a little dial. Do you want to know who's winning the baseball game? That information is only a few clicks to the right. It also offers entertainment such as beautiful arias and hilarious comedic shows. Do you need more customers for your company? Check with your local station to see if there's an open slot in which you can advertise your product. Is it too far to journey

Do you need an escape from your everyday life? Well now you can with cinema. Now, you can watch stories from any time, place, and people. Are you in the mood for a laugh? Take your significant other out to your local theater to see a light-hearted comedy. After an outbreak of new technology, you can go see The Jazz Singer, starring Al Jolson and May Mcavoy, the first ever “Talkie”. A “talkie” is a movie with new and improved features including sound! Now you can hear the smooth voice and hypnotic sound of all of your favorite performers without having to travel to them. Therefore, it would be ludicrous to say that these amenities are a bad thing. The coming of this technology is a revolution not a setback. Go and enjoy it, America.

into the city to hear a speech from our president? Well now you can hear it with just the turn of a dial from the comfort of your own home. Thanks to KDK, all of this is possible.

Advertising good or bad for america? Are new advertising tactics good for America, or a way to brainwash Americans into buying things they don't need?

Advertising is good and bad in my perspective it is a good but for different people. Like if it is beneficial for them if there is a job is hiring employees and they need a job. Or like a new car brand is out and the makers of the car wants everyone to buy their car so they put it out there on magazines, billboards and tv commercials. Now I will turn things over to advertising in the 1920s. In the 1920s they advertised coke a cola, cigarettes, cars and champagne and we are very similar but now let's go even deeper into advertising the good and the bad. One good reason a mouthwash named Listerine it was introduced in 1914 by Joseph Lister. After 7 years it skyrocketed and he made millions thanks to advertising. Like the ad said if you use this product every day you will get rid of halitosis or bad breath. Bad breath makes you unpopular and no one will like you and you will have no one if you don't use this product. Listerine still exists in the United States today and t's only still here because of people saw it on ads. That's one of the good parts of advertising now to some of the bad parts of it.

The bad part of advertising is the sense of illusion and buying things they don't need like a hair dye sure it looks good on the box but doesn't means it will on you. Most of the time teenagers will buy hair dye with their friends and they all dye their hair. After they made the decision to buy and to color their hair and then there goes the damage. They didn't picture their hair would have that color but that's the price you have to pay for trusting the photo on the box. You think you need these things you see in magazines but as soon as it is delivered to your door you regret every cent to spent on the piece of junk you bought. Or everyone else is doing it I should do it too. That's how some people acted when cigarettes came out even though its basicly toxic for you but they had no idea what were they made from or what can happen to you if you smoke too much. It's like eating a piece of road from all the tar you put in your body from just smoking one. Then you get hooked and that's why some people died at such a youngish age. Now this one was a little depressing let's jump into more good reasons to have advertising in the 1920s. More good things about advertising is like self washing clothes/dishes. Like George Washington Carver he had a great idea like some people have bright minds. He started as a slave then he put himself into school and produced a bunch of useful crops just as; peanuts, sweet potatoes, and soybeans. Other people like him are just as smart and inventive. Like some of people that came up with the idea of vacuum cleaners, washing machines, irons and refrigerators. I could keep going with more and more things that we have in this wonder world. Good and bad advertising its been here as long as we rembered and new products that come out for ads we will have. If it is helps or you buy a useless things, either you need it or not advertising is part of our lives forever more. 7

Mass Production Good or Foe? Is Mass Production lowering the quality of American products, or is it good for U.S consumers? By Aaron Schultz As one of the most significant changes in 20th century life, mass production did not lower the quality of American products, and it is good for U.S consumers because it brings many new opportunities to not only cities, but also the small towns. In 1914, Henry Ford, (owner and founder of Ford Motors), unveiled his assembly line in 1914. This was just the start of mass production. Ford’s assembly line created many more jobs for ordinary Americans. By the mid-1920’s, 1 out of 8 Americans had a job in the Automobile industry. Ford’s assembly line also created over 20 million cars in the year of 1929. This proves that mass production created more jobs, created American products faster, and supported higher wages. Before mass production, products would have to be made by hand. By either one person, or a group of people. But now, goods can be made much easier, quicker, cheaper, and faster. Also before mass production, it would be very hard to create identical objects by just one person. Without an assembly line, goods couldn’t be made faster and more efficiently. But now, products could be made identically, and faster without having to do that much work.

In 1927, Boeing Airlines won the right to fly passengers and mail from Chicago to Los Angeles. The mass production of planes helped this happen. Without mass production, it could be totally different today. Also in the 1920’s, mass production allowed more goods for consumers to buy. Again, without mass production, consumers would not be able to buy many goods and there would be less jobs for Americans. Mass production also offered higher pay. Ford would pay $2 every 9 hour day and $5 every 8 hour day. The public loved him for this, and that's what caused him to start being so popular. Also, clothing in the 1920’s changed dramatically. When the 19th amendment came into place, they started mass producing new types of clothing for women. They started producing shorter dresses, and also encouraging it on magazine covers, in logos, and in pictures. The 1920’s decade totally changed because of mass production. It didn’t just offer more jobs, but it also offered much more.
