Welcome to my fraction book!!

Credits I would like to thank Mrs. Talib (my cool math teacher)and Mrs. Thomas (the awesome tech teacher)for helping me with this fraction project. I also dedicate this book to my friends Serena and Emma.

Introduction to fractions

Two out of three sections are shaded in. Two out of three is 2/3.

A fraction is something that is part of a whole. For example, if you have a cookie, you can split it into three pieces and you can eat one piece. If you eat one piece, there are two pieces left. That is two out of three pieces. Two out of three= 2/3 ( two thirds )

More Fractions

The slash (/) means "out of" Ex. 1/4 ( one fourth) one out of four

Mixed Fractions A mixed fraction is a whole number plus a fraction. Here are some cool examples!

2 5/12

16 1/3

1/8

This is a regular fraction

Mixed Fractions

5 2/3

3 1/2

2 1/4

Life Time Experiences I have 8 classes on Monday. If I've been to 3 classes already, then I've been to 3/8 of all my classes on Monday.

Life Time Experiences I'm in math class and I look at the other girls. I notice that 2 out of 3 of them have their hair down. That's 2/3

In art, 2 people are done with their project and 3 people aren't. That makes a total of 5 people and 2/3 have their project done!

Tips To Help With Fractions If you need some help with fractions, here are some tips! When you are adding fractions with the same numerator, add the numerators together. You keep the denominators and don't add them because they. Are already the same and you want the denominator as the denominator for your answer.

When your comparing the values of fractions, and the denominator is the same, then whichever fraction that has the greater numerator, is the greater fraction.

When comparing fractions with different denominators, you can use pictures/drawings to find the values and the answer.

Graph What's your favorite drink? Sprite Coke Fanta Pepsi Water Milk

Graph Results I was surprised that only 2 people picked coke as their favorite drink because I always thought people thought that coke was really good.

This helps me with fractions because doing a survey and then making a graph, is a good way to organize my work and make it easier for me to understand it.

My Views

I think I will help people understand fractions better by encouraging and supporting them when they are having a hard time with fractions. I will also help by teaching them something they can learn about fractions.

I think the most difficult things about fractions for me is comparing the values of fractions with different denominators and dividing fractions.

This fraction book taught me about mixed fractions and what they are. I am very glad that I learned about mixed fractions.

Bonus Question 1

If there are 16 people in the class and 1/4 are boys, how many girls are in the class?

Bonus Question 2
