Fly Away By Brianna C*****
They fly away, I fly away. Human and butterfly alike. I really like how this poem turned out, because of the literary elements that I managed to include. The first element that I have is a conceit. Throughout the poem I go back to the metaphor of a butterfly and compare it to myself flying away into freedom. I chose to include this because it adds to the tone of the piece of being happy, and full of peace. Another element that is in this poem is repetition. It also adds to the tone, but it also provides a sort of rhythm that urges the reader to keep on reading. The last literary element that I used was parallelism. I used the words "I'm flying" to start several sentences. I chose to do this for, again rhythm. My last few words especially use this technique, and they were put there to keep the reader thinking.
Bouncing on the Lake By Brianna C***** Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounceFriends fall off and hit the lake Laughter drowns all out
Analysis: In the poem that I have written I have included both a Kigo and a Kireji. The Kigo is a season word or phrase. In this poem, the Kigo is “lake�. I chose to include this because the lake is a huge part of my summer and I thought that it was a fitting word to express my identity in the summer. The Kireji is a cutting word or punctuation. In my poem the Kireji is the dash at the end of a sequence of bounces. It splits the two ideas of bouncing (on the tube) and falling (off the tube). I think that this adds rhythm to the piece, and that is part of the reason why I included it where I did. I also attempted a pun at the end by using the word "drowns" because of the lake, and I did this to add some humor as well as to make my readers think about why I chose that word over other ones and how it connects to the piece. I think that there is also tone in this piece, that tone being mystery (at the beginning). The bounces have the reader thinking, "What's at the end of the bouncing?" That mystery soon turns in happiness, and the warm, fuzzy feeling of having fun with friends and family.

Why does music move the soul, And temporarily make us whole? What is it about the vibration of the air, That draws us from darkness' liar? How does is bolster our being, And keep out time from fleeing? I think these question though, Are misdirected very so. It is not why, or how, or how too, Because music is not a thing, but a who. She'll take your hand and dance, Opening your heart to sweet romance. If you're crushed she'll take you hand, And give you strength to stand. Analysis: Not only does music move my soul, but words do as well. The main reason why I love this poem is the depth that Hinton included in the poem. While I was reading, I kept on asking questions about my own worldview. I think that Hinton asked the questions to make other readers think as well. The rhyme scheme is like this: |A|A|B|B|C|C|D|D |E|E|F|F|G|G|H|H|. This creates a smooth rhythm and I think that the author did that to make the poem more engaging to the reader. There isn't too much figurative language until we get to line 11, where Hinton puts in a personification. He gives the human trait of dancing and gives it to the music itself. That same personification continues on for lines 12, 13, and 14. I think that the author did this to, again, make his readers think and dig deeper into the inner meaning of the poem.

You just experienced "The Ring of the Piano". Now you will experience "The Ring of My Thoughts", and why I chose to write this poem the way that I did. The poem above is a sonnet, meaning a couple of things. One, the rhyme scheme follows A | B | A | B | and so forth. Here is an example of this, taken from the first stanza: satisfaction; distractions. This continues on throughout the stanzas until we get to a rhyming couplet at the end. It creates a "turn" – the music being played to the music being finished. There is also a double rhyme in the couplet: the one at the end and the one in the centre of each line. Fill; till. Sorrow; tomorrow. Now let's talk about the literary elements. I didn't actually include much. There are no metaphors, or smilies, but I did this purposefully. I wanted to explore how the music feels all on it's own, without inserting another idea. There is some tone and theme though. The tone that I was aiming for was pleasure, and the feeling of being whole. I did this by using words to describe what was happening around the music. How it overcomes you, and overtakes the distractions that you may be experiencing at a point in your life. The theme is to let go, and that it is okay to escape out of your busy life sometimes. I think that this is an important message that society often overlooks, and hopefully this poem will show others how important it is.

A giraffe came by the willow tree Stopped to gaze and talk to me. For he was very lean and tall A pillar, a column, a walking wall. And as he looked down upon my face His eyes were wide two pools in space, As they engulfed, the countryside, The sky above, held me inside Their special height and slant of things Their special view of every thing, And I could see by looking up The wealth within his loving cup That thinks and drinks the sun and sky And watches us from way up high. And yet I found it sad to see That he could never reach down to me For he was too tall, too much ideal And I was too small, too much the real. So, this angular figure, graceful and wise Of astounding vision and cool clear eyes Watched the sun rise, then watched it set Looked down on me and seemed to forget That I was as much a part of this scene As the sun in the sky, the oak in the green. Then the willow tree watching standing near by Saw the distance between us and started to cry she bowed down her head touching the ground And from that day to this, it's the way she'll be found.
You just read the poem "giraffe", written by an author of unknown name. The piece explores the giraffe's looks and personality. He/she expressed tone using rhyme (aabb) and metaphor which makes the reader dig deeper into thinking why the author wrote this poem and what it might mean. The end also had tone in it, with the giraffe dying, although it isn't quite clear why. Again, this makes the reader think. In all, this poem is a great example of digging deeper into the mind and figuring out what life means, and what you can gain from reading.

Come Away with me. Let me explain. As short as it is, this poem is very powerful. There is only one instance where the author uses figurative language, and that is repetition. "Come away" (stanza 1), "It's not too late" (stanza 1), "I have a plan" (stanza 2), "It's gonna be" (stanza 2), et-cetera. I think that the author made this choice to give their readers, listeners, and thinkers time to reflect on a deeper meaning - not just what is written on the page. Although there isn't too much figurative language involved, there is still a rhythm and tone to the piece. The tone being a feeling of comfort and peace. And the rhythm originates from the repetition. I think that it's good that the author chose to exclude that from the song, because I think it would take away from the deeper message. I think that the message (or theme) of this short poem is that life can get better. Even if you are feeling down, or lonely, there is a place for you in God's eyes and that he can help you through that and lead you to the best place ever. I think that Jesus Culture made this the theme because they wanted to share love and hope to every one who reads or listens to the poem.

I learn by words. These are my words, to you, for you to learn by. The first literary element I used was parallelism. To be honest, I first did this because I thought it sounded good, but later, I realized that it also adds rhythm. Not only does the parallelism add rhythm, but so does the rhyming at the end of each line – that part I did on purpose. I also did an attempt on symbolism by using different images and colours to express my emotions on certain things. The word "write" is in the colour red because often the stuff that I write becomes quite dark. Family is blue because it's one of my favourite things and blue is one of my favourite colours. That is one of my favourite things about this poem – all of the hidden meanings that reader have to try and decipher by themselves.

Lost. I think we've all felt that way. Lost. When you feel in one place Yet you feel in another. When you feel everywhere Yet you feel... Nowhere. Sometimes Sometimes, it's hardly even that Sometimes, life, just isn't on your side It's like having an umbrella up, and yet the rain still gets you. Pierces you. It's like having oven mitts on, and yet the heat still gets you. Burns you. It's like being a nice person, and yet people still hurt you. Hate you. And after all this. After the pierces, the burns, the hate. You're still here. Yet you feel... nowhere. Really, being lost, Lost in the mind, the soul, the spirit. Lost... I’m... Lost. Lost – I’ve run out of words. This poem expresses a great deal of tone, that tone being sorrow, and loneliness. The author has included tone using a variety of figurative language. First, we have repetition, which carries on throughout the piece. At the beginning, we have to cases of "lost". As you continue reading, you may notice that there is some more use of the word in the last stanza. I think that the author chose to repeat this word to really make you feel like you are lost as you are reading the piece. There is also some repetition of the word "sometimes" in stanza two. We also have some parallelism in the third stanza. The author used the same sentence structure, "It's like" to start multiple ideas. The author may have chosen to do this to introduce the good things in life and directly compare it to the bad thing of being lost. Again, it adds that same lonely tone. In that same stanza we come across use of similes. "It's like having an umbrella up" and "It's like having over mitts on" are a couple of examples. Again, it directly compares and builds up the tone. Following that, Caddy included a couple strong sentences to finish off her piece. She uses strong words such as "everywhere", "nowhere", "fine line", et-cetera. This leaves the readers thinking about her piece, long after they've finished it.
Like Yahtzee By Brianna C***** Your life is like a game of Yahtzee Your choices of what dice to keep could lead you to victory Or they could lead you to sorrow Yahtzee is like life The choices that you make could lead you down the right path Or you could be taking a wrong turn But you don't know until you get there So choose wisely
Every choice that you make leads to something different. For example, you can choose to read this analysis and figure out why I wrote this poem, or you can choose not to read this analysis and figure it out for yourself. Anyway... This poem was written by me to symbolize life and the little choices that we all have to make every day. I think that in the end it came out well – even though there aren't too many literary elements. I wanted it to be this way to add to the tone. I wanted it to be dark and mysterious. I wanted readers to be thinking, "My choices matter. They aren't nothing." I think that through this tone, I managed this. Especially the last line. The only other literary element is kind of hiding in the piece as an extended simile. I always compare the game of Yahtzee to life, and the choices that you must make. I liked this connection because it is easy to relate to and really makes you think.
The Beauty of God’s Creation By Gabrielle Embry
I look around, and everywhere I can see, The beauty of God's Creation smiling back at me. A precious baby with velvety soft skin, Wiggling its tiny hand and feet, Oh its face an adorable grin. First morning dew on a pink rose; A beautiful butterfly drawing to it close. The sun's golden rays gently warming the ground; Luscious plants covering the soil abound. Humming birds singing high up in the tree; White sand glistening in the turquoise sea. Snow capped mountains, so majestically high; A colourful rainbow adorning the afternoon sky. Countless stars above, sparkling oh so bright, Decorating the horizon and illuminating the night Thank you, Dear Lord, for giving me another day, To enjoy the beauty of Your Creation, And to worship you and pray.
Gabriele Embry's poem is truly a piece of art. She incorporates many cases of figurative language, each with a specific reason for inclusion. In the first stanza we come across some rhyme. In fact, this whole poem is rhyming like this: AA BCB DD EE AA FF GG HIH. Not only does this engage the reader, but it also makes the poem flow quite well, and I think that is the main reason why Embry chose to make this poem a rhyming poem. Also in the first stanza there is personification - giving the beauty of God's creation the human trait of smiling. This painted a beautiful picture in my mind, and made me happy on the inside. The rest of the poem is all different examples of creation. From a human baby to an abiotic mountain, there are so many descriptive words to paint a picture in my mind and to continue a soft flow. It also hints at the theme of beauty, and how you can find it in everything if you look hard enough. The final stanza is about thanking the Lord for creating the world as he did, and again, touching base on the theme.

My identity. It’s who I am. It’s the things I stand for; the words I hear whispered in the wind. It’s also the name my parents chose for me, all those years ago. Brianna. Not too unusual, not too common. A name that is never associated with anyone else. Meaning strong in Celtic, strong in Irish. Strong one. When I was a child, I was given a verse from the Bible to go with my name. I was Brianna, the strong one. “Haven’t I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step of the way.” – Joshua 1:9 (MSG) But the question remains, am I strong? Am I courageous? Do I honestly think that God is always with me? The answer is yes. I honestly believe that God put this verse in my life to encourage me to follow him, and to be strong and courageous. I will not be afraid, I will not be discouraged, for the Lord my God will be with me wherever I go. I will go about the world, signing my name with honor. I will love my name. I do love my name. I love the way it sounds, like the melody of a song. I love the way it looks, like a sun melting into the horizon. And most of all, I love the meaning of my name. It reminds me to fight for what I believe in, and to be strong in the name of God. Brianna. Strong one. I am not ashamed to be a Christian. In fact, I am proud. It is a huge part of me: a huge part of my identity.
A Desire to Inspire is basically a poetry anthology compiled by... well... me. I created this anthology as a representative of my identity. It's filled of powerful words that describe what I like to do, and who I am. Me. Not you, but me. You may not understand all of my choices, but I do. And that's what I'm about to explain. Inspiration is really the heart of anything creative, including all of the written works of this anthology. I really like reading, and writing, and how I can "let go". Imagination. The freedom that it gives me. (Line 8, Fly Away by Brianna C*****) Music also makes me feel free. It moves me, gives me the freedom and the courage to speak out for what I believe in. Why does music move the soul, and temporarily make us whole? (Line 1 and 2, Music by Andrew Hinton) For some music, temporarily is the perfect word to describe my feelings. I love that feeling. Feelings. It's just another one of those things that make up a huge part of me. It's a huge part of all of us. We all have an intricate design of thoughts and emotions, and I find that my own feelings often shine through my writing. All of the poems that I have found and written have their own tone and theme. There is a diverse collection, because I have diverse emotions. Lost. I think we've all felt that way (Line 1 and 2, Lost by Julia C****). I feel like that all the time. But I also feel the cure. Yes, friends and family are a huge part of my life. In fact, one person in particular is what my life is built upon. – Jesus. He is my best friend and I will never let him go. I will live a life full of him. Jesus Culture wrote a song that is written in God's words it says, I have a plan for you. (Stanza 2, Line 1, Come Away by Jesus Culture) Your life – It's gonna be full of me. Open up your heart and let me in. (Line 8 and 9, Come Away by Jesus Culture) I have other friends and family members as well. This summer, I went to my cousin's house in Kelowna, and we tubed until we couldn't tube no more. Friends fall off and hit the lake. (Line 2, Bouncing on the Lake by Brianna C***** That's how it's done ladies and gentlemen. You may not agree with my beliefs on faith, and music, or whatever it may be. But honestly now, we are all different. We all have our own identity's, and this is mine.
