Dr. Zoltan Baracskai, DoctuS Knowledge Based System, Hungary Founder & Owner, Visiting Professor at Graduate School of Economics and Business Zoltán is also a freelance professor teaching at universities in Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, etc. and has an extensive coaching practice with companies from the same area. Zoltán was always interested in supporting top-level decision takers and believed that the intuition of the decision takers and their expert supporters has to be nourished rather than trying to replace it with the fashionable ‘spreadsheet-based forecasting’ of the time. He teaches executives and executive coaches both in academic and corporate settings. Over the last 35 years he delivered around 10,000 hours of lectures and many days of workshops in Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, etc. His favourites were always the post-experiential MBA courses and executive education – so students with experience in organization returning to education for freshening up their knowledge. As a coach, Zoltán differentiates a variety of approaches depending on the topic, such as shadow coaching, process coaching. He was never interested in primary research aimed at proving some conceptual model detached from the organizational reality but was always interested in applied research aimed at making the organization better. Zoltán also founded a company which developed the Doctus Knowledge-based System. Rather than performing sophisticated but irrelevant calculations, the Doctus KBS is aimed at organizing the knowledge of the experts in a way which is helpful to the decision taker. So the purpose of Doctus is not to replace the decision takers but make their life more convenient. Zoltán belongs to the generation of business school professors who were affiliated with a master at the beginning of their career and later he had a number of apprentices on his own. He has published some two dozen books and well above hundred journal and conference papers in 3 languages. Currently he is writing a blog – in Hungarian and Croatian.

His teaching experience covers subjects from Business Information Systems and Change Management to Knowledge Management and further to Philosophy; teaching methods from traditional lectures through problem-based hands-on workshops to a variety of online solutions; class sizes from one-on-one work with doctoral students through small groups of 5-7 students to large audiences of 400+; student levels from undergraduate to postgraduate and post-experiential executive education; curriculum development from single classes to complete degree programmes; and does this in 3 languages. Since 2010 he is the Director of the Management Development Programme (MDP), a 3-year long course which is the only compulsory class for all the undergraduate students in the Strathclyde Business School. MDP involves 1,700+ students and about 50 faculty and staff. Viktor adopted a blended learning approach, in which recorded online lectures are supplemented with TED to deliver the conceptual knowledge which the students apply in hands-on team-based exercises in their group sessions. Viktor has a unique multidisciplinary background with 4 masters degrees ranging from mathematical engineering to MBA and ending in a PhD on Learning Ability. Having spent 6 years as an apprentice with Zoltán Baracskai and now working with his apprentices, Viktor is a devoted proponent of the master-apprentice mode of teaching-learning. He has been extensively writing about personal knowledge and knowledge increase.
