Alumnae News

For Alumnae Day of Service on April 22, Earth Day, Mount Alumnae gathered at Sanctuary Farm Phila in North Philadelphia, an urban farm that inspires and supports those experiencing health inequities. Twelve Mount alumnae attended the gathering with class years ranging from 1984 to 2014. The idea for the Day of Service came from an Alumnae Board Meeting, during which members shared they’d like to host and even mirror service learning experiences they had when they were Mount students. The idea coincidentally aligned with this year’s school theme, “Serving the Dear Neighbor.”

Alumnae Board Member and Sanctuary Farm Phila Board member, Maria Termini-Romano ’89 helped make the connection and coordinated a time for the Earth Day celebration. The morning was filled with learning about the initiatives and goals of the farm, cleaning up flower beds, weeding, and mulching the property. Erin McCloskey Gerst ’98 explains, “I had never met some of these women and it was like we had journeyed our whole lives together. The similarities were evident and the values aligned. We appreciated being there together in service and it was beautiful.”
