Back in the saddle again...
Our goal to slow things down at home is still on our minds, but we can’t help but continue to do the thing we love, so we’ve teamed up with a couple of great outfits to help us with the journey. Jacobson Red Angus has taken on a new view and business plan, but we still intend to raise the same quality Red Angus genetics.
We continue to have a business relationship with Prairie Red Angus, owned and operated by Spring Prairie Colony out of Hawley, MN. They purchased a large group of Jacobson cows and through AI and ET work, they are raising some of the top genetics to come back into the program, including their best bulls that sell in this event.
We are in our 3rd year of partnership with Rivers Edge Cattle Company, owned by Andrew Schauer and his family, from Park Rapids, MN. Andrew is a progressive and enthusiastic newcomer to the Red Angus scene and he has been working closely with Gary to recharge this program and take it into the future. Andrew’s cousin, Cody Boyson, is also co-owner in the business and has been helping Gary with the calving, feeding and chores around the ranch.
Our genetic focus has always been on the Red Angus female, and now we will enhance our focus on traits like calving ease, heifer pregnancy, stayability and high quality carcass traits. We would like to become the premier provider in the mid-west for low birth, convenient and carcass trait minded cattle. With that goal we have been infusing our herd with quite a bit of outcross genetics from the Angus gene pool and this year’s offering features a big selection of those genetics.
Another major goal that Jacobson Red Angus, along with our partnership with Rivers Edge, is to supply quality Red Angus influenced beef to the local consumers and businesses. We are currently supplying beef to a few restaraunts and always have locker beef available for sale. This has allowed us to be active in bidding and purchasing some of the good genetics that are coming from our bulls. As always we stand behind our cattle 100% and our word is our guarantee!
Thanks again for your interest in our program.
Sincerely,
Jake & Val

RED ANGUS GUIDE TO EPDS
ProS ..... Profitability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and GridMaster selection indexes. In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed in dollars per head born (Index/High Value).
HB ....... HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Expressed as dollars per head born, HB is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are retained and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. Traits included in the HB index include Calving Ease Direct, Calving Ease Maternal, Weaning Weight, Milk, Mature Weight, Heifer Pregnancy and Stayability (Index/High Value).
GM....... GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the post-weaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance and carcass traits. Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a quality-based carcass grid. Traits included in GM include Average Daily Gain, Carcass Weight, Dry Matter Intake, Marbling, Back Fat and Rib Eye Area (Index/High Value).
CED Calving Ease Direct predicts differences in the percent of calves born unassisted out of 2-year-old dams. (Percent/High Value)
BW Birth Weight predicts differences in actual birth weight of progeny. (Pounds/Low Value)
WW Weaning Weight predicts differences in 205-day weaning weight. (Pounds/High Value)
YW ........ Yearling Weight predicts differences in 365-day yearling weight. (Pounds/High Value)
ADG ....... Average Daily Gain predicts differences in weight gain between 205 and 365 days of age. (Pounds/High Value)
DMI ....... Dry Matter Intake predicts differences in daily feed intake as measured in a feedlot during the post-weaning period. (Pounds/Low Value)
MILK ..... Milk predicts differences in weaning weight attributed to the milking ability of the animal’s daughters. (Pounds/High Value)
ME ........ Maintenance Energy predicts the difference in maintence energy requirements. (Mcal per Month/Low Value)
HPG ....... Heifer Pregnancy predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to conceive and calve at 2 years of age following exposure to breeding. (Percent/High Value)
CEM Calving Ease Maternal predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to calve unassisted as 2-year-old heifers. (Percent/High Value)
STAY Stayability predicts differences in the ability of an animals’ retained daughters to remain productive in the herd – calve every year – through 6 years of age. (Percent/High Value)
MARB Marbling predicts differences in marbling score – amount of intramuscular fat measured at the 13th rib. (Marbling Score Units/High Value)
YG Yield Grade predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade, which is calculated using CW, REA and Fat. (Yield Grade Units/Low Value)
CW Carcass Weight predicts differences in actual hot carcass weight. (Pounds/High Value)
REA Ribeye Area predicts differences in square inches of ribeye area measured at the 13th rib.(Square Inches/High Value)
FAT Fat predicts differences in the depth of backfat measured between the 12th and 13th ribs. (Inches/Low Value)

Lot 1... a bull finally worthy of the name!
Lot 1 JACOBSONPENDLETON2014
- The number one question we hear from breeders around the country is... “Where is that next outcross bull at?” We feel this bull is a worthy candidate to be considered. Forget the fresh pedigree... this is one of the most complete, sound, attractive bulls we’ve ever raised, and that is why we named him Pendleton 2014.
- Five years ago, we made a big step outside the box and purchased a semen interest in the Angus bull, McCumber Tribute 702. Pendleton’s dam was born in ‘20 and was the result of a planned ET mating with Tribute and one of our top donors, Kalli 3101. We then flushed her as a yearling to our new exciting herdsire, PIE Captain 057, who had just topped the ‘21 bull sale season for $150,000. There has been a lot of thought and planning that has gone on to bring you this genetic package and we hope you enjoy his genetic lead-time. His full brothers sell as Lots 2,3 and 50-52.
- Selling 1/2 interest and full possession.

- We are not so sure that many cowmen might like Decatur 2026 as well or better than his lead-off full brother. This guy is really smooth and attractive, yet he still has a nice low center of gravity and a huge set of testicles. His EPDs indicate that he is a calving ease bull deluxe, and we think they are right! Selling 1/2 interest and full possession.
All the bulls have DNA samples at the lab and we are awaiting the genomic & parantage results... hopefully we will have an update by sale day!

Lot 4... this could be the ‘Motherload’ you’ve been searching for!
Lot
- The old fashioned calving ease bull generally was just that... calving ease with not much growth and carcass traits to offer. We’ve made great strides with the genetics since then and Motherload 2404 is a prime example of that. He ranks in the elite top 1% of the breed with a 21 CED, yet he still sports a -6.0 BW to 105 YW EPD spread with top 12% Marbling, top 14% CW and top 5% Gridmaster. Motherload might be one of the most unique calving ease bulls in the country!
- His sire, Jacobson Longhaul 0009, is a full brother littermate to the outcross dam of Lots 1, 2 and 3, sired by the bigtime Angus bull, McCumber Tribute 702. Longhaul has earned himself a powerful 19 CED, -4.3 BW to 130 YW EPD proof, and this offering features his first and only sons in the country to sell this spring.

Lots 55 - 57... Black/red carriers by Longhaul & Captain.
Lot
- The common adjective when describing these black/red carrier bulls is ‘Tank’, and Lot 55 fits that description. He is sired by our outcross sire, Longhaul, and his dam, Cedar 4085, is one of our top ET donor cows in the herd.
Lot 56 JACOBSONBLHAUL2279
- Lot 56 is a super smooth made ET Longhaul son out of KF Gammer 4417, the total outcross red gene carrier Angus cow we purchased from Knutson’s in SD. Be sure to check out his full ET red brother selling as Lot 10.
