“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” Mother Teresa “Peace is its own reward.” Mahatma Gandhi Here we have to start after reading these quotes, Have you ever asked yourself what do you want for your life? Money, Cars, Villa, Good career, Feeling good and relaxed out of stresses!!! And have you ever think about what do you need from others? Loving, Accepting, Believing, Respecting you. This is the meaning of peace for me “what do you want for your life & what’s your needs from others”. SCORP is one of the most interesting committees in MSSA & IFMSA locally, nationally & internationally. “Four Virtues”
Alaa M. El-Desouky
MSSA Training assistant 2012-2013
Non-violence, truth, love and fraternity are four virtues that bring freedom to anywhere in the world. Mahatma Gandhi is remembered in the world for these four major virtues. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in Porebandar of Gujarat on 2 October 1869. In the beginning he acted like a common child. However, he corrected his bad habits very soon. He smoked cigarette only once. He took meat with his friend only once. One day he confessed all these bad deeds before his father and vowed not to repeat them. M.K.Gandhi completed his law in England and returned to India in 1893. He started his career as a lawyer. He supported the poor and truthful clients. He went to South Africa to deal with the case of a famous merchant named Abdula Seth. In South Africa he built up his career. He returned to India in 1915. In India he found similar unkind treatment by the white rulers. He started the Non-co-operation in 1930 and the Quit India Movement in 1942. During his struggle he applied no jealousy and violence
“Will To Live”
Mohamed El-Hneidy
“Cancer patient” when I say this, what is the first thing has been brought to your mind!? Most of us think that he will die anyway. Even movies in 90min ,you get along with the cancer patient’s struggle for life and the whole movie is filled with hope, tell you at the end that he died. There are some stages in the development of cancer and accordingly the patient’s survival depends on which stage s/he reaches. Also; there is some kind of treatment such as chemotherapy and irradiation. Other patients have to sacrifice of their organs. What I want to tell you from all of this information that the cancer patient has many years to live. We should change. Firstly; we ourselves should have the faith, believe that cancer patients can be cured and live again in a normal way. Once we believe in this, we will be able to give them hope. Secondly; “the patient” it is known that man’s will to live is a psychological force to fight for survival and this appears particularly when one’s own life is threatened by a serious injury or disease. From this, there will be a big difference if the patients believe that they can overcome and kill their disease. The idea is that “when someone is on the threshold of death, may consciously or
against the rulers. Finally, he succeeded. The British Government granted independence to India. Gandhi was a spiritual man. He told the people to love and tolerate each other. He read the Gita, the Holy Qur’an, the Bible and all other scriptures. The saddest thing for us is that Gandhi was shot dead by an Indian on his way to attend a prayer on 30 January 1948. His death was mourned all over the world. We consider this day as the martyr day every year. Always remember, when one of the four virtues or more disappears. Fatal disaster will happen so soon.
unconsciously try to stay alive through the belief that they have a reason or something to live and fight for” There is an important linkage between the will to live and existential sources of distress. So if the patients are convinced by these concepts, this will make a big difference in their lives. It isn’t only about your pathological condition. It’s all about your feeling. To a cancer patient; Just fill your soul with faith and strongly believe in god. To healthy one; Let’s create a reason but thousand reasons for them to fight more and more.

No doubt that relief pain deserves everything you own and definitely seeing other’s smile worths fortune especially when you yourself make it .. All these priceless things are the end and the easy stage of the doctor-patient relationship . So what are the keys of success in this double commitment ? Simply the answer is mutual confidence and respect , but for more detailed answer, we have to see the Rights of the two partners .. To the doctor’s rights, we will find that all he needs from his patient is to follow the treatment plan, be honest at all the information about his illness and respect him at the personal level. The doctor also needs high standards of health care services to achieve the best results for his patient. Finally; he needs to be treated by the authorities fairly with enough fees for his efforts.
Can you take your dark glasses off?!
Ahmed Abdel-Hay
Let’s start with a small light activity. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and then try to watch the world. Imagine the beauty of surroundings, majesty of nature and magnificence of creatures. All right. If you imagined well, congratulations, you are an optimist. But if you unfortunately failed to see this beauty, don’t worry and go on reading and you will change your point of view. First, why should you be optimistic? Many scientific and medical studies approved that optimism can enhance body general status, boost immunity and increase average of age and vice versa with pessimism.
To the patient; he does not need only respect as the doctor but also caring, listening and always offering proper diagnosis. The patient also has the full right to know about his diagnosis, choices, risks and benefits of the treatment as simple as possible without any medical terms . On the humanitarian side; The doctor sometimes has to be a human more than a doctor. He has to provide social, emotional and spiritual support for his patient and his family. Finally; As Martin Luther King said “Darkness can’t drive out darkness, only light can” .. So let the light of humanity and understanding drives out the darkness of pain and suffering
Also optimist affects the surrounding society positively by his/her high positive energy which can bring goodness, welfare and happiness. Then, how can you be that optimistic? Smile every time and everywhere. It’s the most simple and effective way for optimism. Try to sleep properly for sufficient hours. Do exercise, perform yoga, play or listen to music and never stop helping others. Finally, “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” said Winston Churchill. So, you have the ultimate choice to see this opportunity or that difficulty and you are the only responsible for it.
“Sailor’s Manual to inner peace!” “A wise captain carries more ballast than sail.” Jamaican proverb
Mohamed El-Mahdy
When you shake a can of Soda, It chemically reacts, producing enormous pressure that is kept inside the hard can; you can’t notice any change from outside, but if opened it will explode. Same does stress! It puts pressure on your nerves, altering their response. Being under stress for long time, can affect your mood, decisions, and even your body! Inner Peace by definition refers to a state of being mentally at peace away from all sorts of stress; also many researchers consider it an aspect of being Healthy. How to keep your Peace, with such fast pace of life and events surrounding us? Like a sailor taking charge of his boat and fighting waves and wind, you should learn to control your life. Have a clear destination and take all tools you may need during your trip; set your goals and prepare yourself physically and mentally. Avoid big waves, rocks or ice bergs; be flexible and learn how to go around or adapt a new path, but never let that take you away from your destination! Don’t overload your boat, or put all your load on one side; understand your limits and balance between your life aspects as work, family and social life.
Make use of the sunny days, take a break, reload your ship, or sell your fishes. Breaks help you refresh your strength, reflect, learn from your past and plan for your future. Stay connected, sometimes you may need to send SOS; an old Radio can save your life one day! Have a company, extra hands can be a valuable addition; also the little chat you may share can help you spend the dark night. Understand the surroundings, you may need to bring down your sails against storms or get your directions from stars in a dark night! Always remember where you come from, as one day you will need to end your trip, or go back for a rest. Enjoy your trip and admire the beauty of nature surrounding you. It is not practical to tell you to isolate yourself from the stressful surroundings and events you may face unexpectedly every day. But you should understand stress and what brings it up into your life, so you can know how to deal with it and be prepared to face it! One last advice, Practicing Yoga can help you figure out your destination, control your body and recharge your spiritual strength; spending some regular time focusing on certain physical and breath exercises can be a retreat from surroundings and bring you confidence to continue your journey. Some researchers consider prayers as a kind of spiritual Yoga!
