Academics

7:00 a.m.-Alarm clock gives off an earthquake and lightning. 7:30 a.m.-After 30 min­ utes of waiting in a LONG line in their bath­ room, the student enters a stall with massage shower head shooting cold rain. 8:10 a.m.-Spills, splashes, banging, yells, screams, spits, throwing, smashes, crashes, smacking, slurp­ ing - you name it-fills the air of the 4-star caf­ eteria. 8:30 a.m.-Everybody

transforms from being animals to being schol­ ars first the minute of school begins. 8:50 a.m.-lt's driving time.Students try NOT to encounter a fatal acci­ dent with their eyes barely open. 10:05 a.m.- A r t i s t-in ­ training tries to steal a few quick glances at the comics while painting a prize-winning mural. 1 1:10 a.m.-Some stu­ dents are still barely awake by 3rd period. working their rear ends off. 11 :45 a.m.-Numbers, geometrical shapes, equations, graphs, sym­ bols, lines, and so on.. . are found floating be­ fore the eyes of the stu­ dents in the mathemat­ ics department. 12:20 p.m.-While the stu­ dents are eating heartily in the cafe, the M.S.S.D. students are at Gonza­ ga sitting in their class­ r o o m w i s h i n g t he.� could've grabbed more than just a sandwich.

1:37 p.m.-Kids are al­ ready relaxing on the cozy, backsafe couches in the LRC while the sub tea cher desperately carries out their so­ called sub plans. 2:59 p.m.-The students, schoolwide, rush their classwork and pack up their bags before the hand strikes 3:00 - be­ fore the scholars trans­ form back to wild, rowdy animals for the night.

Running With Spirit

Ivan Maldonado is an accomplished cross country runner. Last year was the first time for him to be on a cross country team. Ivan have received accolades for his talent for long dis­ tance running. The Eagle decided to do an interview with him. Eagle: What are some awards that you have received? lvan:I received the Most Valuable Player award and Honor Coach award last year. Eagle: How do you maintain the dis­ cipline to be in shape for the meets? Ivan: It's a natural talent, but of course, I train strenuously. Eagle: That is great! Now, tell us about the different tournaments that you have been in. Ivan: I was the the champion in Deaf American Federation of the United States (DAFUS) and in Washington ln­ d e pendent School Conference (WISC) this year. Eagle: WOW! You are certainly a tal­ ented and accomplished cross counrty runner. Keep up your efforts. MSSD is very proud of your achieve­ ments. Congradulations!
