Luke Reinschmidt earns GNAC Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after helping the ‘Jackets to a series split with a big 5-for-6 performance in Game 3 against Northwest Nazarene last week. PORTLAND, Ore. – Becoming the first player ever on the Montana State University Billings baseball team to notch two career five-hit games, senior center fielder Luke Reinschmidt has been selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season announced Monday. “Luke was great this weekend at NNU,” said MSUB head coach Rob Bishop. “He is the type of player who completely changes a series when he is at the top of his game. Luke is one of the hardest workers I have ever been around and it is great to see him rewarded for his efforts.” Reinschmidt went 5-for-6 with a home run, four RBIs, and three runs scored in the Yellowjackets’ third game last week against Northwest Nazarene University, helping his squad to an 11-2 victory. Overall in the four-game series, Reinschmidt led the team with six hits, and had two home runs, six RBIs, a double, four runs scored, and 13 total bases. The senior drew a pair of walks and had an on-base percentage of .444, stole two bases without being caught, and had his third outfield assist of the season as he continued to play perfect defense in center field.
Reinschmidt is batting .343 on the season with team highs in hits (23), home runs (5), RBIs (23), runs scored (15), total bases (44), slugging percentage (.657), and is a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases and has a 1.000 fielding percentage with 37 catches and three runners thrown out in center. The Billings Senior High School graduate was also honored as the conference’s Player of the Week the first week of the season, and it is his fourth honor in his three seasons at MSUB. He and Yellowjacket right-handed pitcher Tanner Johnson are the two from the team to be honored with the GNAC’s weekly award this year. The ‘Jackets make their 2016 home debut this weekend at Dehler Park, as MSUB hosts Concordia University (Ore.) in a four-game series running Saturday and Sunday. --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
