Maintaining a GPA of 3.8 or higher, 19 athletes from MSUB earn one of the top academic honors from the GNAC with the Faculty Athletic Representative Award. PORTLAND, Ore. – Earning one of the top academic honors from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference on Thursday, 19 Montana State University Billings student-athletes were recognized as Faculty Athletic Representative Award winners announced by the conference office. Students must maintain a college grade point average of 3.80 or higher while competing in a collegiate sports in order to be eligible for the award, presented annually upon the conclusion of the academic year. “We couldn’t be more proud of these 19 student-athletes, who represent the top level of academic achievement within our department,” commented Yellowjacket director of athletics Krista Montague. “These individuals are a prime example of the value we place on academics, as our primary mission as a department is to foster an environment for academic success.”

Among the Yellowjackets’ 19 selections were a pair of three-time honorees, with Bailee Dexter of the women’s golf team and Kari Kastelic of the women’s soccer team each claiming the award for the third time in their careers. Jarod Paul and Jared Winslow of MSUB’s baseball team, Lili Delgadillo of the women’s soccer team, and Tiana Hanson of the Yellowjackets’ women’s basketball team were each repeat selections after earning the award in 2015-16 as well. Freshmen Sarah Farris, Amanda Hemmen, and Rachel Lythgoe represented MSUB’s women’s soccer team, Brenna Beckett, Lydia Foster, and Catrina Schuchard were MSUB’s track and cross country representatives, Jeanann Lemelin and Abbie Lohof were recognized from MSUB’s women’s basketball team, and Kortney McNeil joined Dexter as MSUB’s other women’s golf representative. On the men’s side, Steen Fredrickson and Sam Muskat joined Paul and Winslow to represent the baseball team, and freshman Chuck Carr earned the award after his first season on the track and field squad. Jared Winslow earned the GNAC FAR Award for the second straight year.
