The MSUB men’s cross country team is travelling to Black Hills State for a meet.

The MSUB men’s cross country team is travelling to Spearfish for a meet against the fellow Yellow Jackets of Black Hills State. BILLINGS, Mont. – With one meet under their belts this season, this week the MSUB men’s cross country team is headed for an event hosted by Black Hills State taking place on Friday, Sept. 9. In their opening season meet last week, the Yellowjackets finished third in the team standings at the South Dakota Mines Invitational. Junior Jorey Egeland was the ‘Jackets top finisher, placing sixth in the 8K distance in 26:52.00. Senior Garrett Love was second for the team and ninth overall in 27:11.00. Mark Hovland, Josh Panasuk, and freshman Ronald Venema rounded out MSUB’s top-5. “We’re coming off a pretty good start from last week at SD Mines,” MSUB head coach Dave Coppock said. “This week we’ll run up against a very tough Black Hills State team. Their men are one of the better teams in the RMAC; they’ve received some votes in the national rankings. The course will be difficult as well; a series of 2 kilometer loops up and down a long hill.”


The Black Hills State men’s cross country team earned a preseason South Central Regional ranking of sixth by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Last week, the Yellow Jackets placed third at the Augustana Twilight in Sioux Falls, S.D. Jonah Thiesen finished 21st overall to lead the team.

“Our men’s team seems to be packing up really well and are progressing well in workouts,” Coppock said. “Jorey, Garrett, Josh and Mark will be leading the team again this week. We’re looking for that number 5 runner in Ron, Tyus Mendoza or Jacob Marshall. The Gage McSpadden Memorial Invitational begins at 9:30 a.m. with the women’s race. The men’s 6K distance begins at 10:00 a.m. on the course at the Spearfish Canyon Country Club.
