Tyler Green, who attended fellow D2 school Humboldt State University last year, will join MSUB’s men’s basketball team for the 2017-18 season. BILLINGS, Mont. – Adding another piece to the 2017-18 Montana State University Billings men’s basketball roster on Tuesday, head coach Jamie Stevens announced the signing of Tyler Green. The 5-foot-9 guard is a Redding, Calif., native, who attended NCAA Division II school Humboldt State University during the 2015-16 academic year. “Tyler caps off a very good recruiting class for our program,” said Stevens. “His addition gives us more depth at the guard and wing positions. He has the ability to shoot the basketball at a high level both off the dribble and coming off screens. We also like that he brings a year of D2 west region experience. We can now focus on our group of guys for next year and begin building our 2018 recruiting class.”

Green saw significant playing time as a true freshman with the Lumberjacks, averaging 17.4 minutes over 29 games played in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Green contributed 7.0 points per game, and shot 40.8 percent from the field, 38.3 percent from the arc, and 76.5 percent from the foul line. In his freshman season, Green also grabbed 1.9 rebounds per game and chipped in 1.1 assists and 20 steals on the year. Green reached double figures in nine games, including a breakout performance of 28 points on 9-for-14 accuracy from the arc against San Francisco State University on Feb. 25, 2017. “I chose MSUB because it felt like home,” Green said. “The coaching staff was passionate about its profession and had high expectations for next season. The state of Montana was beautiful and the team seemed eager to win some games and compete every night.” Seeing time as the team’s point guard, Green had multiple assists in nine games, including a season-high five on Nov. 12, 2016 against Simon Fraser University. He also had a personal best six rebounds on Jan. 14 against Cal State San Marcos. Green earned a pair of starts as a freshman at HSU, and topped 30 minutes on the court three times including his highlight scoring spree against the Gators. Prior to his collegiate career, Green earned four letters at Enterprise High School under head coach Mike Hayworth. He was a sectional MVP both his junior and senior season for the Hornets, and scored more than 1,300 points in his career. He was an all-NAL selection in three of his four seasons, including first-team as a junior. “Each person I encountered on my visit welcomed me with open arms,” said Green. “I feel that the program is heading in the right direction with the group of guys coming back, and I think I can contribute to what the team is looking for. I am excited to be a Yellowjacket, and can’t wait to play for the fans in Billings.” Green is the sixth player to join MSUB’s roster for the 2017-18 season. The ‘Jackets went 14-15 overall in 2016-17, and earned a spot in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships by claiming sixth place in the regular season at 9-11 in league play. --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
