Michael Porter ties for sixth place and Caleb Stetzner also finishes in the top-10 for MSUB’s men’s golf team, as the Yellowjackets take fourth place at the Concordia Invite concluding on Tuesday. PORTLAND, Ore. – Michael Porter opened and closed his final fall tournament with a score of 72, completing the threeround Concordia University Invitational with a 220 to finish in a tie for sixth place and lead the Montana State University Billings men’s golf team on Tuesday at Columbia Edgewater Country Club. Porter started the tournament on Monday with rounds of 72 and 76, before returning to a 1-over-par 72 in the finale on Tuesday. The senior finished six strokes off of the tournament champion, Tanner Huddleston of host Concordia University. “Overall I’m very happy with how the guys competed all week, and it was a very consistent team effort for us,” said MSUB assistant coach Jeff Allen. “This was a good finish to the fall season, and hopefully it sends us in the right direction going into the spring season.” Porter’s effort helped the Yellowjackets to a fourth-place team finish, as the ‘Jackets saved their best round for last with a 298 on Tuesday and a three-round total of 899 (300-301-298).

Also finishing in the top-10 at the event was MSUB freshman Caleb Stetzner, who tied for ninth place with a three-round score of 221 (74-74-73). Stetzner followed a theme of decreasing his score between his second and third rounds, which five of MSUB’s seven golfers at the event achieved. Completing the tournament in a tie for 26th place, freshman Garrett Woodin totaled a score of 229 (79-74-76) including a 76 on Tuesday. Five strokes behind Woodin was sophomore Austin Walter, who improved on his 81 in Round 2 on Monday with a 78 on Tuesday. Walter finished in a tie for 35th place overall, with a score of 234 (75-81-78). Senior Connor Miele finished the team portion of MSUB’s lineup in 40th place with a score of 236 (82-77-77) in his three rounds. Scott Larson, who competed for MSUB as an unattached individual at the event, put forth his best effort on Tuesday with a 4-over-par 75. He finished the tournament in a tie for 35th place with Walter, as he also shot a 234 (79-80-75). Fellow sophomore Dylan Meccage finished in 43rd place with a three-round total of 244 (85-79-80). Host Concordia University won the team title, also shooting its best team score on Tuesday with a round of 281. The Cavaliers easily held off second-place Saint Martin’s University, putting up a three-round score of 862 (296-285-281) among the seven-team field. Porter was picked as the St. Vincent Healthcare Player of the Day.
