Ivan Colmenero and the Yellowjacket men’s cross country team are headed to the Rocky Mountain Shootout.

After competing on their home course, the Yellowjacket men’s cross country team is heading for Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Shootout. BILLINGS, Mont. – Fresh off their second place result at the NCAA preview meet, the Yellowjacket men’s cross country team will face a large nationally-ranked field during the Rocky Mountain Shootout hosted by the University of Colorado on Oct. 1, at the Buffalo Ranch. MSUB placed second during the Yellowjacket Invitational last week at Amend Park, just seven points behind regionallyranked San Francisco State. Garrett Love at fourth, and Jorey Egeland finishing sixth, led the Yellowjackets with two results in the top-5 at the 10K distance on MSUB’s home course. Love covered the course in 32:28.03 followed by 32:48.37 from Egeland. Mark Hovland (11th, 33:25.12), Ronald Venema (12th, 33:34.10), and Tyus Mendoza (14th, 33:43.92) went across the line in a tight pack to complete the scoring for Montana State University Billings. The Yellowjackets were competing for the first time this season on the longer 10K


distance in preparation for hosting the west region championships in Billings on Nov. 5. MSUB finished ahead of fellow Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponent Northwest Nazarene, who finished in third, and from the south central region South Dakota Mines, who finished fourth in the team standings. In Boulder, Colo., at the Rocky Mountain Shootout, the Yellowjackets will be competing alongside nationally-ranked teams from both Division I and II. Host the University of Colorado is ranked fifth in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association poll released on Sept. 27. While participants will run the course at the same, results will be divided between Collegiate I and Collegiate II. MSUB will be competing against the No. 1 NCAA Division II men’s cross country program in Colorado Mines. Also expected at the meet are No. 3 Adams State, No. 7 Western State, and No. 11 CSU-Pueblo. The meet will be conducted on the cross country course at the Buffalo Ranch, adjacent to the University of Colorado.
