Garrett Love and MSUB are competing in Washington at the GNAC Championships this Saturday.
The MSUB men’s cross country team is ready to compete at the conference championships being hosted by Western Washington. BILLINGS, Mont. – The Yellowjacket men’s cross country team is travelling to Western Washington for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships taking place on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the course at Lake Padden Park. The conference event is making a return to the site hosted by WWU, and most of the MSUB men’s competitors have seen the course before. “For the men’s team, Garrett and Jorey are ready to lead the team into the championships,” MSUB head coach Dave Coppock said. “They’ve run consistently well all season and should have a good meet out at Western Washington. If everyone has a good day, not necessarily a great day, they’ll finish in the top half of the field. There are some very tough, nationally and regionally ranked teams in that group, so we’d be happy to finish up there. Over the past four
championships we’ve finished between 3rd and 5th, and I think we’re capable of performing to that level this year. Four of the men have run this course before, so that will be a big help as well.” Competing for the Yellowjackets at the conference meet will be Garret Love, Jorey Egeland, Mark Hovland, Ivan Colmenero, Tyus Mendoza, Josh Panasuk, and Ronald Venema. Love, Mendoza, Egeland, and Hovland competed on the course at Lake Padden Park in 2015. Last season, Love placed second for the Yellowjacket team in 18th place overall in 25:53.80. Mendoza was 35th in 26:39.34, Egeland 38th in 26:57.70, and Hovland 45th in a time of 27:07.70. In the GNAC, Alaska Anchorage is the defending conference champion. The Seawolves are nationally ranked No. 9 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll. In the regional poll, Alaska Anchorage is No. 3, Simon Fraser No. 7, Western Washington and Western Oregon No. 10.
