A tight middle pack finish for MSUB as the men’s cross country team completes the Rocky Mountain Shootout in Boulder, Colo. BOULDER, Colo. – The Yellowjacket men’s cross country finished an 8K course at Buffalo Ranch during the Rocky Mountain Shootout hosted by the University of Colorado Saturday. MSUB’s middle 3-7 members ran a tight pack, all placing within 10 runners of each other on the tough cross country course in Colorado. At the front of the pack, Tyus Mendoza in 58th covered the course in 28:18 for the Yellowjackets as the sophomore led MSUB’s middle five runners across the finish line. After Mendoza in 60th for MSUB’s fourth runner was freshman Ronald Venema finishing in 28:21. Mark Hovland (63rd, 28:33), Josh Panasuk (28:33), and Ivan Colmenero (68th, 28:45) were just behind to complete the top-7 finishers for Montana State University Billings.


“Our top-2 runners Garrett and Jorey ran a great race today,” MSUB head coach Dave Coppock said. “What we also saw on the course today was our middle pack competing really strong today. Ivan in that seventh spot really moved up to close the gap. The team ran well as a group for most of the race.” Garrett Love was the Yellowjackets top finisher in 27:17 for 32nd place. Junior Jorey Egeland finished 39th in the race in 27:35. Liam McKay (83rd, 29:33), Jacob Marshall (94th, 30:11), and Isaiah Girard (105th, 31:40) completed the men’s cross country results for MSU Billings. John Dressel, an unattached runner from Colorado won the individual title, completing the 8,0000 meter course in 24:38. Host Colorado won the team event, placing runners in the 2-3-4-8-9 scoring spots. THE BUZZ: Mendoza named St. Vincent Healthcare Athlete of the Day for his third place team finish for MSUB. UP NEXT: MSU Billings will host the Yellowjacket Open on Saturday, Oct. 8, on the course at Riverfront Park. The women will run a four mile distance beginning at 10:40 a.m.
