The MSUB softball has a four-game series at Western Oregon on Monday and Tuesday.
MSUB softball is heading to Western Oregon for a four game make-up series. BILLINGS, Mont. – With all the wet and rainy conditions on the west coast this spring, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball teams are scrambling to play make-up games in the next few weeks before the conference tournament at the end of the month. Montana State University Billings (10-28, 2-14) is on its way to Western Oregon for a four-game series on Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 11-12. The Yellowjackets will look to shake out of a six-game slump as they complete a five day, eightgame conference road trip. MSU Billings played a tough series at Central Washington on Friday and Saturday, dropping the four-game series to the Wildcats. The ‘Jackets struggled at the plate on Friday, leaving eight runners stranded on the bases without plating a run. On Saturday, the offense returned with improved performances sending seven runners across home plate.
Sophomore Heather Tracy is leading the Yellowjackets and is second in the GNAC with a .438 batting average. The right fielder was 5-for-11 against CWU with two runs scored. First baseman Cameron Cassinelli is second on the team batting .351. Cassinelli had 3 hits and 3 RBI against the Wildcats. Second baseman Myrissa Prince is third on the team with a .346 average. Batting .328 for the team this season is outfielder Bella Rovens. The junior batted a team-best 5-for-9 at the plate against the Wildcats scoring three runs. Junior Kelsey Devlin added her eighth home run of the season in the series at Central Washington. The infielder is batting .321 and is second on the team in home runs behind Cassinelli’s 10. Senior Cori Gammon is second on the team in hits at 39 and runs scored with 26. Nicole Tiffany has been the designated player for MSUB in the last 10 games for the Yellowjackets and is holding a .317 batting average at the plate. Senior Amanda Roark made appearances in three of the four games at CWU totaling 10 and 2/3 innings of work. She split time in the circle with junior Taylor Tokach. The transfer made appearances in all four games, including tossing a complete game for a total of 10 innings. Western Oregon University Wolves Monday, April 11 – 2 PM PST DOUBLEHEADER Tuesday, April 12 – 1 PM PST DOUBLEHEADER WOU Softball Field 2016 Record: 17-18, 7-7 GNAC Head Coach: Lonny Sargent, 4th season 2015 GNAC Finish: 21-28, 13-9 GNAC (4th) Western Oregon is coming off a split with Western Washington, dropping the first game 7-4, but rebounding with a 5-4 win (8 innings). The Wolves are playing three straight home doubleheaders starting on Sunday, Apr. 10, against Simon Fraser followed by the four games against MSUB. The split with Western Washington keeps Western Oregon at an even .500 (7-7) record in the conference for fifth in the standings. At the plate, Kelsie Gardner is leading the GNAC batting .440. Destiny Kuehl is second on team at .367 and third in the conference with a .722 slugging percentage. The Wolves have five players batting at .300 or better. Sammi Cadwallader is second in the GNAC in the circle with a 2.23 ERA. In 53 and 1/3 innings, the junior has 37 strikeouts and three complete games. Alyson Boytz has 11 complete games this year under her belt and is holding an ERA of 2.95 in 97 and 1/3 innings.
